Here's what 7 of your favourite celebs have to say about safe sex

In the immortalised words of Salt-n-Pepa: "let's talk about sex, baby..." Well, shall we?
Radio 1's The Surgery is continuing its Back To School theme by chatting all things Fresher's Week. Specifically: safe sex. Delving deep into the topic of keeping yourself safe during a time that you might be tempted to lose your inhibitions, Dr Radha and Katie Thistleton are on hand to dish out advice aplenty...

'I should be having more fun than this' - Freshers' Week debunked
Are you nervous about Freshers' Week? Fear not, as Katie, Dr Radha and Hannah explain all
"Sex can be amazing but it doesn't come without risks, like unwanted pregnancy & sexually transmitted infections," says Dr Radha, "so before you start having sex make sure you've covered all bases by talking to your GP about contraception & condoms or visiting your local sexual health clinic. Get to know how to use these to keep yourself protected."
It goes without saying that practicing safe sex is a smart and responsible thing to do but it's refreshing to hear some of the biggest celebs in the biz talk so candidly about it. From Lady Gaga to Harry Styles, here's what your faves have to say about being safe between the sheets...

Everything you wanted to know about sex and relationships but were too scared to ask
Don't worry, we've got you covered!
Lady Gaga

When it comes to having frank and honest discussions about safe sex, Lady Gaga is leading the way.
Collaborating with makeup giant MAC Cosmetics on a Viva Glam range back in 2K11, with all proceeds from the lippy sales going to MAC's AIDS fund which distributes the money to services and organisations around the world. Thanks to celeb-fronted campaigns aplenty (everyone from RuPaul to RiRi has released a Viva Glam lipstick), so far £314million has been raised. Pretty cool, right?
Speaking on Good Morning America, the singer said: "I want to get people started at home at a younger age with their children, talking about HIV, talking about AIDS, talking about safe sex. My mother talked to me about sex at a young age, and she always taught me to be self-aware."
"I have never not had safe sex, I have always asked a guy to be tested and to use protection, which was always my rule. Otherwise you're playing Russian roulette."
Harry Styles

Harry Styles is pretty tight-lipped when it comes to his private life, but that didn't stop the Sign Of The Times singer divulging about his first time to OK! Magazine back in 2012.
"The first time I had sex I was scared I got the girl pregnant. That was despite the fact we were safe. Luckily we were fine... I would never risk not wearing a condom, it's too much of a risk."
Madonna

Madonna has been outspoken about sex since she first hit the music scene in 1979.
In 1992, the Like A Virgin singer caused an uproar after she released an explicit photo book, simply titled 'Sex', with words by Madonna and photographs by famed photographer Stephen Meisel. Deemed controversial, Madonna schooled the critics with her own perfectly-put response:
"I don’t think that being in touch with your sexuality and being able to talk about it is bad," the Material Girl told Vanity Fair in 1992. "I think the problem is that everybody’s so uptight about it that they make it into something bad when it isn’t, and if people could talk about it freely, we would have people practicing more safe sex."
Despite being banned in Japan, the book sold 1,500,000 copies in just three days. Wowza.
Rihanna

Much like Lady Gaga, Rihanna has collaborated with MAC on a Viva Glam collection - with all proceeds going to AIDS funds - and has continued to raise awareness of the virus by publicly being tested alongside none other than Prince Harry on World AIDS Day.
"I want you to have fun. I love having fun, but you have to be responsible," RiRi said while speaking on Good Morning America. "You have to be safe. Protect yourself. You have to look out for yourself because nobody else can do that for you. It's real. It's a real disease."
Justin Timberlake

"Hey India, this is Justin Timberlake from *NSYNC," uttered JT in an Indian condom advert. "Being in love is one of the finest things on Earth. Make sure you use... condoms all the time. AIDS is real. Protect yourself, protect your friends, protect everyone’s future.”
Moral of the story: rock your body, by all means, but keep it safe.
Kesha

We've heard of confetti cannons but condom cannons? Well, that's a new one.
Way back in 2009, Ke$ha was promoting safe sex via the unusual means of blasting concert-goers with free condoms. Speaking to Billboard prior to the condom free-for-all, the singer said: “If you come to a live show, it’s a sensory assault. You will leave covered in sweat, beer, glitter, and, just maybe, you’ll get a special edition Ke$ha condom."
Tinie Tempah

Tinie Tempah is the face of MTV's Staying Alive Foundation - a ' grant-giving HIV prevention initiative' - so it makes sense that he's open when it comes to talking safe sex.
Speaking about the cause, the rapper said: "There's so much stigma about talking about sex. The most important thing is before you do it – wear a jimmy. I know what it's like in the heat of the moment, but stop and think. It only takes two seconds to say 'have you got a condom?'"
So now you're all caught up on what your favourite stars have to say about safe sex (thanks, guys!) but feeling ready to have sex is just as big a deal.
Over to Dr Radha for some final words of wisdom: "It's really important to make sure you are physically, emotionally and psychologically ready to have sex. Don't ever feel pressured into it. Make sure you feel comfortable and trust that special someone!"
