George Ezra brought nothing but good feels to the Live Lounge with Don't Worry Be Happy

We're properly into the swing of Live Lounge Month and today marks the return of - trumpets, please! - George Ezra!
It's been two long years since George stepped foot in the Live Lounge and put his own spin on Macy Gray's I Try (what a tune!) and it's fair to say that his operation has grown a little bit. OK, a lot.

"This will be my fourth Live Lounge, which is crazy to say that, and embarrassingly it's grown somewhat. So the first time round it was just me and a guitar and then we were a four-piece and now we tour as a seven-piece band. We toyed with the idea of not bringing the seven-piece band but we want you to hear it. We wanted to make sure we could play the way we sounded on tour and at the festivals."
Challenge met, George. Here's what went down with George and his extensive band took over the Live Lounge...
First up, George got given the Joe Lycett treatment on Grimmy's show...

George Ezra’s guide to saving money
This could take you a while though.
Here's the dealio: Grimmy chats to each Live Lounge guest the morning of their Live Lounge and, as part of the AM chinwag, enlists Joe Lycett to throw a random but revealing question their way. This morning's question - do you carry your coins loose or in a purse? - turned out to be pretty revelatory.
"Here's the thing," George told Grimmy. "I've got a big cider jar that I put change in and I've been doing it since I was about 18. And my rule was when I got in from a night out, I'd throw whatever change was in my pocket on the bed and if the queen was facing up then that money went in the jar... Counted it the other day. £84! And that's since I was 18. So, yeah, look at me now!"
Taking notes, yup? Us too. That was, ahem, sterling advice, George.
He kicked things off with Don't Matter Now
Although the Live Lounge is pretty small as far as actual onlookers go, George is no stranger to playing to big crowds on epic stages. From Radio 1's Big Weekend to Glastonbury to T In The Park, the singer has really padded out his musical CV since first appearing on BBC's Introducing show in The West in 2K13.
Coming full circle, George is on the bill for BBC Music Introducing Live at the 02 Academy in Brixton on October 4th, alongside Everything Everything, Slaves, Declan McKenna and Blossoms. Pretty impressive, huh?

You might suspect that all this success might change a fella, but you'd be wrong. Does George reckon he's changed at all?
"Someone asked me this recently and the only example I could use was that I now have an electric toothbrush. Nothing major has changed. I think, sonically, the [new album] is not gonna be too far away from what people are used to but I do think it's a progression."
And as for Don't Matter Now, George told Clara that it was a note-to-self, prompting him to kick back and reeeelax:
"It's just a song I wrote myself to remind myself to relax a little bit more, switch off from time to time."
Watch George Ezra perform Blame It On Me
Transporting us back to 2K14 with Blame It On Me, George and his guitar (and that seven-piece band of his) filled the Live Lounge with nothing but upbeat vibes. And while we basked in those vibes, George basked in the glory that comes with reflecting on the good job he did all those years ago...
When I look back on it, it's one of those beautiful things that can never be taken awayGeorge Ezra
"I can answer so much easier now with hindsight on my hands. Because at the time you're just wrapped up in it, there's not really a second to take it in. It's not that you don't appreciate it but you're just busy, that's the only word for it. And now when I look back on it it's one of those beautiful things that can never be taken away. It's a fact now. It happened."
And it seems as though this glory-basking extends to seeing his name on the line-up for this year's Live Lounge Month, alongside the likes of JAY-Z, Miley Cyrus and London Grammar.
"It's never not surreal when you see your name amongst other names that you're aware of. It's quite hard to just be like 'yeah, there I am! I belong there!', so it's very... the word is 'flattering'."
We're happy to have you, George.
And he spread the good feels with a cover of Don't Worry Be Happy...
You're smiling from ear to ear, aren't you? SAME!
Turns out it was George's sister who first suggested he take on Bobby McFerrin's classic, Don't Worry Be Happy (a stroke of sheer genius, we think you can agree).
"It's one of those songs that I think everyone is aware of and they're not sure why. A classic. I've got a little playlist that I update each Sunday and I put it on about two or three weeks ago and my sister was like 'you should cover this for Live Lounge!' and I was like mmm, that's not a bad idea."
But - plot twist! - it could've all been so different...
"Funny enough another song we were talking about doing was You Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon which, of course, I'm very happy we didn't do now because if Chris Martin did Graceland I think it's nice to do something a bit different. But that was the other song we talked about maybe giving a go."
