The xx put their spin on a Justin Timberlake classic in the Live Lounge

Radio 1's epic Live Lounge Month continues and, after playing host to the Foo Fighters, Chris Martin and The Script, it was The xx's turn to take on three tracks.

Missed it or simply want to binge on the entire session all over again? We've got your back. Here's what went down in the lounge...

Their current track? Dangerous, of course...

The xx are no strangers to the Live Lounge but it seems the blue-lit studio can illicit nerves in even the most seasoned performer. We asked the guys if they were mere mortals, prone to the jitters like the rest of us and - spoiler alert - they are!

When we did our first Live Lounge we had just turned 20, so we're older and wiser now
Oliver, The xx

"It's always a fun challenge. We get really nervous but it's good to have those nerves back because when you've been playing your own stuff for a while you get comfortable. It's quite comforting just looking at each other and realising you're all kind of in the same boat."

Nerves shared are nerves halved. Noted. Thanks, Romy! But surely taking on that infamous lounge gets easier with time? Not according to Oliver...

"It definitely changes. When we did our first Live Lounge we had just turned 20, so we're older and wiser now but it's still a really nerve-racking experience. I'm happy now because it's done! I'm grateful but it was really nerve-racking. We did it and nothing went wrong so I'm happy!"

Their classic track? Angels, duh!

You might be thinking 'huh, how do you even go about picking out just one classic track from a back catalog that features so many ace songs?' and you wouldn't be alone. We thought the same and we sought the answer...

I remember being really so happy that Radio 1 played it
Romy, The xx

"As usual I was the odd one out," Oliver told us. "I suggested doing Islands but it made sense to do Angels because the other two songs that we were playing were quite 'up' and it was quite nice to have a pared down track, so I ate humble pie again!"

With 55 million views on YouTube and counting, it's safe to say that Angels is popular. Turns out Romy reckons a few early radio plays had a lot to do with that...

"I remember being really so happy that Radio 1 played it because it is a really gentle song and it doesn't really come in with a lot of impact. I was really chuffed to hear it on the radio and I'm sure that helped it reach more people. Now when we play it at the end of our show a lot of people seem to sing along and connect to it so it brings people together."

Their cover? Surprisingly, Justin Timberlake...

Oliver from The xx chats to Grimmy about deciding on their Live Lounge cover

Are we going to see Kylie Minogue cover in the Live Lounge? Maybe...

Kylie Minogue. Fatboy Slim. Cher. These were the names on the table when Romy, Oliver and Jamie were deciding on their Live Lounge cover track. After weeks of deliberation (OK, slight exaggeration) they opted for *drum roll, please* Justin Timberlake!

Putting their unique spin on My Love, the trio sprinkled some hauntingly beautiful funk (that's a thing, right?) on the 00's hit and we have Romy to thank for this stroke of genius.

"Romy suggested My Love," Oliver dished. "We cover songs that we love but sometimes when we really love a song it's a reason not to do it because, y'know, you want to bring something new to it and it's really difficult to handle songs that you love a lot."

And who is the biggest JT fan? Over to Oliver again...

"Me! Growing up - from Justified and even some *NSYNC - I wanted to be somewhere in between Chris Isaak, Josh Homme and Justin Timberlake. They were my three icons. I love Justin, absolutely love Justin."

*ALL THE CLAP HAND EMOJIS!*

All the chills. All the feels. We're obsessed with their JT cover but the band didn't find the decision-making process all that easy.

"It was really hard. It's 50 years of music - it's so open! It's almost easier when you have the Top 40 or, like, we did the Christmas [Live Lounge]. I think we've always loved that song and the words really resonated and it felt right."

Now, if you don't mind us, we're going to be playing this on repeat allllllllllll day....
