5 on-again, off-again celeb couples we truly can't keep up with

Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom quickly became everyone's favourite celebrity couple when THOSE pictures emerged. How could you not wish well for a duo who looked so very au fait with a spot of quasi-naked paddle boarding? They announced their break-up earlier this year, but have just been spotted getting snuggly at an Ed Sheeran concert - suggesting they might just be back together.

Are Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom back together?!
It looks like everyone's fave paddle boarding duo are giving it another go...
The brilliant news got us thinking about our favourite on and off famous couples, the ones who just couldn't seem to call it quits. Read our round up below, and perhaps you'll feel inspired. After all, the course of true love never DID run quite smooth...
Katy Perry & John Mayer
Before KP started getting friendly with Legolas, she was in a relationship with singer-songwriter John Mayer - but they were also more changeably 'Hot'n'Cold' than your Nan's kettle.
John, who previously dated Taylor Swift, has revealed that his latest album 'The Search For Everything' is a break-up record about Katy.
“There were times when tears came out of me and I went, ‘O.K., John, this is not about an on-again, off-again relationship.'" he told The New York Times. "This is something more profound."
Rihanna & Drake
You've got to hand it to RiRi and Drake: they've really tried to make it work, work, work, work, work over the years. Current status: definitely not together, but that hasn't always been the case...
The duo, dubbed 'AubRih' (smart, guys), started romancing in 2009 after a date at bowling haunt, Lucky Strike. What exactly happened that night is anyone's guess, but we do know that Drake put pen to paper and wrote a verse about RiRi in 'Fireworks': "Who coulda predicted Lucky Strike would have you stuck with me? What happened between us that night, it always seems to trouble me."
Fast forward a few months and RiRi tells the world that her and Drizzy are just friends, but then 'What's My Name?' happens, followed by a joint touchy-feely Grammys performance, followed by 'Take Care', followed by brand new rumours that the pair are dating, followed by... well, you can see how the story goes.
The most recent development? After working together on, ahem, 'Work', AubRih were spotted getting cosy for the duration of 2016, reigniting the are-they-aren't-they questioning, with Drake dropping some major love for Rih at that year's MTV VMAs: "She's someone I've been in love with since I was 22 years old."
But now, it seems, Drizzy and RiRi are definitely not together. We think. It's hard to tell sometimes, y'know? Watch this space, though...
Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth
Miley Cyrus and Australian Hunger Games hunk Liam Hemsworth met on the set of The Last Song, the 2010 teen romance movie based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks (author of The Notebook.)
Their relationship hit highs and lows as their respective careers took off, with Miley shaking off her wholesome Disney star image and turning into an outspoken and free-thinking woman. They got engaged in 2012, and split the next year, but seemed to have rekindled things in 2015. The couple are now engaged once again and look happier than ever.
"I needed to change so much. And changing with someone else not changing like that is too hard," she told Billboard, speaking about their time apart. "We had to re-fall for each other."
Selena Gomez & Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez is losing no sleep over her ex boyfriends
She says she was 'influenced' by past BFs and not in a good way...
OK, so we have a feeling that this one is properly OFF now (particularly given how happy Selena Gomez seems with The Weeknd) but Jelena did the "are they aren't they" thing for years - and many fans are still convinced that they will one day get back together.
You want someone to add to your life, not to complete youSelena Gomez
They got together very young, when Justin was aged 16 and Selena was 18, and went through more than half a decade of rocky drama (during which it was impossible to keep track of their relationship status) before they finally called it quits.
Speaking to In Style magazine recently, Selena implied that her relationship with Justin had all been too much too young: "It's really important for me to… make sure that I never get influenced by a guy," she said. "I've wanted to be in a strong headspace for years, and I really wasn't."
Perhaps the pair are living proof that sometimes, even if relationships don't work out, they can teach us something valuable. "You want someone to add to your life, not to complete you," said Serena.
Rachel McAdams & Ryan Gosling
It was the perfect love story... until it wasn't. After meeting on the set of Harry Styles' favourite film (true story), The Notebook, Rachel and Ryan lived out the story of Noah and Allie in real life - OK, not quite; he didn't build her a house or anything (that we know of) - and coupled up.
The duo reaffirmed our belief in true love for three glorious hope-filled years from 2004 'til 2007 before deciding to call it quits. Our hearts haven't quite recovered, TBH. Gosling broke our hearts all over again when he dished on the break-up to People Magazine...
“God bless The Notebook. It introduced me to one of the great loves of my life. But people do Rachel and me a disservice by assuming we were anything like the people in that movie. Rachel and my love story is a hell of a lot more romantic than that.”
Crying very real tears right now. The couple gave their coupledom another go during the summer of 2008 but to no avail. Ever since then? Well, it's been a bit of rollercoaster. There were reunion rumours swirling around for years but, ultimately, our favourite movie couple just weren't meant to be, with Gosling getting hitched to Eva Mendes and Rachel finding love with screenwriter Jamie Linden.
It was oh so sweet while it lasted, guys. We've always got the memories.
