From smash hits to cute Brits: Grimmy gets the lowdown from Paramore

6 February 2018

It's been a hot minute since Paramore graced the Radio 1 studios with their presence (they paid the Live Lounge a visit seven months ago, to be precise), but this AM they joined Grimmy to chat all things touring, tribute bands and Take Me Out.

Didn't realise that one of your favourite bands had an unlikely penchant for reality shows? Here's a few things we learnt about Hayley, Zac and Taylor from their chinwag with Grimmy...

The band's name means 'secret lover'

Ever wondered how the name Paramore came to be? Wonder no more.

Paramore is the maiden name of the mum of one of the band's first bass players (still with us?) but the group committed to it fully after learning that the word 'paramour' was a thing and it meant 'secret lover'. Neat, huh?

A UK Paramore tribute band exists and they're called Paramore (Or Less)

And the award for Greatest Tribute Act Name goes to...

Yup, Grimmy got Kelly on the phone (think of her as the Hayley of the group) to chat to the guys in the studio. A Paramore trivia game ensued and Kelly walked away the winner. Turns out that Paramore (Or Less) have been performing for four years and sometimes share a stage with fellow UK tribute act, Green Haze. Any guess which band they're tribute to?

(Green Day. The answer is Green Day.)

They've recently discovered Gogglebox and they love it

Paramore are loving British TV

Whilst on tour here, the American rock band have been enjoying some British TV staples.

Hayley described Gogglebox as 'that show where you watch other ppl watch another show' and, TBH, we think that's a pretty accurate description. Rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?

Paramore have been touring the UK since January 12th and, naturally, have ended up spending some of their downtime soaking up the best TV shows Britain has to offer. What exactly did they make of the bizarre smorgasbord on offer to them? In summary: us Brits are cute as hell.

I just think everyone in the UK must be the cutest people that I’ve ever seen
Hayley Williams

"I just think everyone in the UK must be the cutest people that I’ve ever seen. It’s true. The cereal... everything has cute names and people sit around and say cute things to their televisions. It’s really great."

Hayley, Zac and Taylor weren't, however, so sold on the concept of Take Me Out or Naked Attraction, as described to them by Grimmy. Hayley made her feelings on the subject preeeetty clear...

"I never want to meet someone’s penis first… I don’t want to do that! No, I hate that! We’ve gone backwards, we’ve gone so backwards."

When they're not watching Gogglebox, they're vintage shopping

Proving that they're even more like us than we first suspected, the trio revealed that a lot of their time off is spent... rummaging through the rails of vintage shops. SAME!

"I think with this album cycle we’ve been hanging out together a lot more on off days, doing a lot of vintage shopping thanks to Zac, because he seeks them out, eating a lot of cool food. We don’t really do anything remarkable but I think it’s kind of nice to be in different places together."

Hayley was a member of *NSYNC's official fan club

Hayley confirmed this information to Grimmy and elaborated on her unshakeable love for the boy band in an interview with MTV back in 2013.

"If you wanna talk about boy bands, let’s talk about a real boy band, *NSYNC. *NSYNC are really, hands down, the best boy band of all time, so we don’t have time for One Direction or The Wanted right now, we’re still focusing on *NSYNC."

But don't take any of the above personally if you're a Wanted fan or a Directioner, because Hayley doesn't discriminate when it comes to rival boy bands. *NSYNC really are the only exception...

"I’ll talk trash on Backstreet Boys right now, do you wanna do that? Let’s talk about Backstreet Boys. You don’t compare to *NSYNC either!"

Hard times, guys.
