Five new songs you need to know this week (26/02/18)

Another week, another batch of tracks to become obsessed with. Here are Radio 1's Tunes Of The Week, A.K.A. the songs your favourite DJs are hitting repeat on right now...

Tom Grennan - Sober

Tom Grennan was one of the 15 acts on the longlist for BBC Music's Sound Of 2017 (Ray BLK bagged the top spot, with Rag'n'Bone Man scoring second and RAYE taking third) and for good reason.

This singer-songwriter has been one to watch since first finding fame as the guest vocalist on Chase & Status's track When It All Goes Wrong. Since then he's released his debut EP (Something In The Water), taken on the Live Lounge, appeared on Later... with Jools Holland and worked on his debut album.

Sober is a track from that aforementioned debut album, called Lighting Matches, and we're already obsessed. If raspy, soulful vocals are your thing, Tom Grennan is your guy...

George FitzGerald & Lil Silva - Roll Back

George FitzGerald and Lil Silva have teamed up to bring you the most beautifully zen electro track of all time. Roll Back comes courtesy of George's second album, All That Must Be, which drops on 9th March and features the likes of Tracey Thorn, Bonobo and Hudson Scott.

"I wanted to mirror the uncanniness you feel when a massive event happens in your life," FitzGerald told Resident Advisor of his latest album. "Everything looks and sounds the same but its somehow different. Your surroundings are less intelligible."

Janelle Monáe - Make Me Feel

Janelle Monae is back! She tells Annie Mac about Prince, the GRAMMYs and releasing new music

Janelle Monae - Make Me Feel is Annie Mac's Hottest Record for Thursday 22nd February.

There's a reason you're getting Prince vibes from Janelle Monáe's new single, Make Me Feel. Speaking to Annie Mac, Janelle elaborated on the influences behind the track...

"Prince actually was working on the album with me before he passed on to another frequency, and helped me come up with sounds. And I really miss him, you know, it's hard for me to talk about him. But I do miss him, and his spirit will never leave me.”

Unsurprising, then, that Janelle's latest material received Annie's Hottest Record title and is Grimmy's tune of the week. BRB, just listening on repeat...

Zedd & Grey ft. Maren Morris - The Middle

Incoming: incredibly catchy tune.

What happens when you put Zedd, Grey and Maren Morris on a track together? You find yourself in The Middle. Zedd teased this track way back in August 2017 and now, finally, we're having it grace our airwaves.

Speaking to Billboard in January, Maren spilled on what it was like to work on the track: "Zedd was so great to work with and so easy-going, it felt like we'd been working together for years. The sound is reflective of my many influences as an artist – a little bit country, little pop, little R&B, relatable, emotional and catchy as hell. There are no limits with this song and I can't wait to see how the fans react."

Michael Calfan - On You

Not familiar with Michael Calfan? The French DJ and house music producer has been a big name on the festival circuit, appearing alongside the likes of Steve Aoki and Nervo on line-ups throughout summer 2017, but he's been pretty quiet on the new music front since releasing Thorns in 2016.

Enter: On You, complete with aesthetically pleasing music video.
