Five new songs you need to know this week (05/02/18)

9 February 2018

Another week, another batch of tracks to become obsessed with. Here are Radio 1's Tunes Of The Week, A.K.A. the songs your favourite DJs are hitting repeat on right now...

George Ezra - Paradise

Well, George Ezra's recorded a great big pop single here, hasn't he?

After smashing onto the scene in 2013 with folk-ish sounds on singles such as Budapest and Blame It On Me, George has upped his game on the second single from his second album, Staying At Tamara’s.

Huge melodies and enormous hooks combine on what could be George's biggest hit yet.

The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar - Pray For Me

A track so good, both Grimmy and Annie made it their tune of the week.

Pray For Me is the third single from the Black Panther soundtrack and, unsurprisingly, it's major. Kendrick curated the soundtrack himself and it features the likes of SZA, Swae Lee, Jorja Smith, Vince Staples, Travis Scott and James Blake, so you already know it's nothing short of sonically sensational.

Kendrick's contribution with The Weeknd is everything you'd hope for and expect from two hip-hop juggernauts.

Tom Misch ft. Loyle Carner - Water Baby

WARNING: Contains flashing images. Third party video may contain adverts.

Tom Misch is a double-threat from London, being both a talented producer and singer. Here, he's joined by the equally brilliant Loyle Carner, who adds some spoken word loveliness to Tom's mellow beats and husky vocals.

Fickle Friends - Swim

Not familiar with Fickle Friends? Time to bookmark this Brighton-born five-piece because they're about to make your playlist a whole lot sweeter.

Their debut album, You Are Someone Else, is dropping on 16th March and it's sure to be packed full of the same energetic, catchy-as-heck pop that Swim provides. If you prefer your music a bit more stripped back, dive headfirst into the a cappella version of the track right here (your day is about to get a whole lot better).

The Wombats – Cheetah Tongue

WARNING: Contains flashing images. Third party video may contain adverts.

We've seen many a workout-inspired music video in our time (we're looking at you, Eric Prydz) but Cheetah Tongue is, well, different...

The Wombats have been relatively quiet on the music front ever since the release of their third album, Glitterbug, in 2015. Fast forward three years and we've finally got some new material in the form of Lemon To A Knife Fight and Cheetah Tongue - both tracks that can be found on their new album, Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life.

Are your airwaves short of some classic indie pop? Cheetah Tongue is your jam.
