Troye Sivan spills all the tea on the Breakfast Show with Grimmy

27 February 2018

Fresh from filling his boots with tea in Devon (more on that later), Troye Sivan swung by Grimmy's studio to give him the low-down on what he's been up to, where he's been and, most importantly, who he's been collaborating with recently.

So, where exactly has Troye been recently? Well, Devon, if you must know...

"I landed [in the UK] a good few days ago now and took two days off and went to Devon. I looked at some hills and the beach for a couple of days, drank some tea and then came to London. It was so nice. Devon’s beautiful, you’ve got to go."

Noted! Thanks, Troye. Here's what else we learned when the singer-songwriter popped in for a cuppa...

Inspiration for My My My! came to him while he was in the toilet...

Nope, your eyes do not deceive you: inspiration really did hit during a visit to the loo in a juice bar. Grimmy did some digging and discovered that this isn't a rarity as far as singer-songwriters are concerned. Camila Cabello has written songs in the toilet. Inspo has apparently struck Taylor Swift while in an airport bathroom. Ed Sheeran has been known to love songwriting in the bathroom because of the acoustics. And, most impressively of all, rumour has it that Mariah Carey got the inspiration for Hero while in the toilet.

"So I went to the bathroom, was making a tinkle and then heard through the door - I could hardly hear the music but I could kind of hear this kick-drum coming from whatever song was playing outside... I quickly ran outside and was like 'hey Siri, what song is this?' and took that into the studio because I had no idea what I was going to write in the studio that day.

"So I took it in and that was the starting point for My My My! So now I’m just going to do that every time I need a good song."

Maybe there's something to this toilet theory. We'll test it out and report back.

He had a vision for the music video long before it was shot...

WARNING: Contains flashing images. Third party video may contain adverts.

We're getting total Madonna and George Michael vibes from the music video for My My My! and Troye revealed that he'd been planning the look and feel for at least six months prior to shooting.

It’s just me being as gay as I want, [wearing] leather waistcoats, strutting up and down, wind machines... all of it! It made me so happy
Troye Sivan

"So surreal because I’d been planning the video for six months as well and always hoped it would go a certain way and it went that way, so I was really happy...

"I really wanted it to sound gay. The thing that’s interesting about the video, I feel like, is there’s no guys making out or anything like that. The most risqué it gets is some shirtless hunky boys.

"Besides that it’s just me being as gay as I want, [wearing] leather waistcoats, strutting up and down, wind machines, greasy skin, wet hair, all of it! It made me so happy. It was the funnest day of my life."

And he also let slip about a veeery exciting collaboration that's headed our way

Fresh from drinking all the tea, Troye was in the mood to spill some tea in the form of a very exciting collaboration announcement. Naturally, we're all for it.

She was like 'this is going to be really fun!', so she just did it and it sounds exactly like I dreamt it would
Troye Sivan

"I haven’t told anyone yet. I feel like I might. Literally I want you to know that this was not a planned announcement, I just kind of feel like telling you… It’s Ariana Grande!"

Did you hear that, world? TROYE SIVAN AND ARIANA GRANDE ARE RELEASING A SONG TOGETHER! How? When? Why? We need all the answers.

"So her and I - not to be that guy! - but we’re actually friends and we met for the first time two years ago and we just kept in touch. She’s really fun and we were hanging out and I was playing her music and I said 'would you ever sing on this one song?'. But I’m so annoying about it, I’m like 'would you ever...? Is there a chance...? You don’t have to!' and she was like 'this is going to be really fun!' so she just did it and it sounds exactly like I dreamt it would.

"My favourite thing is not telling people who it is and then starting to play the song and as soon as she starts to sing everyone is like 'are you serious?!'. Her voice is nuts."

Did someone say dream collab?! We. Are. Here. For. IT!
