Six new songs you need to know this week (12/02/18)
13 February 2018

Is your playlist in need of some newness? Look no further than this batch of fresh-out-the-oven tracks, handpicked by the Radio 1 DJs...
Fickle Friends - Swim
WARNING: Third party video may contain adverts.
Not familiar with Fickle Friends? Time to bookmark this Brighton-born five-piece because they're about to make your playlist a whole lot sweeter.
Their debut album, You Are Someone Else, is dropping on 16th March and it's sure to be packed full of the same energetic, catchy-as-heck pop that Swim provides. If you prefer your music a bit more stripped back, dive headfirst into the a cappella version of the track right here (your day is about to get a whole lot better).
Calvin Harris ft. PARTYNEXTDOOR - Nuh Ready Nuh Ready
WARNING: Contains flashing images. Third party video may contain adverts.
This isn't the first time Calvin Harris and PARTYNEXTDOOR have joined forces on a track (cast your minds back to Cash Out on Calvin's 2017 album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1) but it might be our favourite.
The Brit DJ and Canadian rapper (real name: Jahron Anthony Brathwaite) teamed up for Nuh Ready Nuh Ready after Calvin realised that he didn't put Jahron's talents to full use on his last album, stating in an interview that he felt he'd "underused" him. Thankfully the same can't be said for Nuh Ready. Prediction: you're going to be playing this on repeat for months to come.
James Bay - Wild Love
WARNING: Third party video may contain adverts.
"I've discovered that world of analogue synths and programmed drums," James Bay told BBC Music about his comeback. "I've had the most fun smashing them up against these organic instrumental approaches that have always been very me - electric guitars, acoustic guitars, acoustic drum kits. Crushing them together, smooshing them up, making a sound out of that - and something unique has been born."
It's been a while since James Bay has graced our airwaves, but Wild Love more than makes up for the wait. All in favour of James' continued crushing and smooshing, say aye! (AYE!)
Marshmello & Anne-Marie - Friends
First he dominated the charts with Silence, then came Wolves (featuring none other than Selena Gomez) and now Marshmello is bringing us some serious anti-love song vibes with Friends featuring Anne-Marie.
A little more poppy than his earlier offerings, if catchy tracks are your jam then you're going to want to add this Marshmello hit to your playlist, stat.
CHVRCHES - Get Out
WARNING: Contains flashing images. Third party video may contain adverts.
CHVRCHES are back with their third LP and, this time, the Scottish trio are showing a proclivity for pop.
Dishing to Entertainment Weekly, frontwoman Lauren elaborated on the direction of their latest music: "When I listen to the record, I feel like it’s the most pop stuff we’ve done and also the most aggressive and vulnerable at the same time. It was about really leaning into those moments - and also wanting there to be a real humanity and character to what we’re saying.”
One thing's for sure: you'll never shout 'get out' in the same way again.
SHAME - Lampoon

SHAME - Lampoon
Annie Mac's Hottest Record In The World for Wednesday 7th February 2018.
Brit band SHAME recently bagged the title of Annie Mac's Hottest Record In The World and we're not surprised, TBH.
This Brit post-punk band formed in South London back in 2014 and released their debut album earlier this year. The critically-acclaimed five-piece have already toured Australia and are en route to America, before swinging by Europe to perform sold-out shows. We think we can safely say that their star is on the rise.
Listen to Lampoon and you'll understand why.
