Take a bow: 10 times RiRi reigned supreme on the red carpet
11 May 2018
The 2018 Met Gala served as definitive proof for a few theories we've been toying with: firstly, A-listers enjoy a fancy dress theme just as much as us mere mortals; secondly, despite our best efforts, we'll never quite understand what happens beyond that sky-high staircase; and thirdly, Rihanna is queen of the red carpet.
Yup, the baddest gal in the biz proved her fashion credentials yet again when she made serious Met moves in a Papal-inspired get-up for this year's bash, designed by John Galliano for Maison Margiela.
But this isn't the first time Ri has cleaned the floor with her Met contenders and, if her red carpet history has taught us anything, it won't be the last. Here are 10 times Robyn Rihanna Fenty has shut it down in the style department...
Met Gala 2018

Rihanna co-hosted the evening alongside Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, so it seems only fitting that she went full-throttle on the Heavenly Bodies theme. This ensemble took a mind-blowing 250 hours to sew and an eye-watering 500 hours to embroider. We're exhausted just thinking about it.
Cannes 2017

Sunglasses? With a Dior gown? On a red carpet? If anyone Cannes, Ri Cannes.
British Fashion Awards 2014

Rihanna belongs to a very exclusive club and the members of the club all have one thing in common: the ability to wear an oversized tux jacket, sans trousers, without looking like a toddler who's raided their dad's wardrobe. It's a club we've tried to gain entry to many times and been immediately turned away.
Grammy Awards 2015

This pink pouffe-esque creation, worn by Bad Gal for the 2015 Grammys, came courtesy of Giambattista Valli Couture. Famed for their billowing ball gowns, the Italian fashion house is the brainchild behind some of Rihanna's most striking sartorial moments.
Met Gala 2015

We could dish the deets on Ri's most prolific Met dress to date or we could let the queen herself do it: “I’m so in love with this dress, but the train is insane!” Rihanna told Vanity Fairy during the 2015 Gala. “I can’t really walk in it without any help, but it’s so worth it. I love this dress so much! It’s Chinese couture and it’s made by Guo Pei. It’s handmade by one Chinese woman and it took her two years to make. I found it online.”
CFDA Awards 2014

Life imitated art at the 2014 CFDA Awards when RiRi shone bright like a diamond in a custom Adam Selman dress, complete with matching headscarf and gloves. The outfit consisted of 216,000 Swarovski crystals but, upon reflection, Ri wishes she'd taken the embellishment one step further by donning a bedazzled thong. "That's the only regret I have in my life," she told Vogue. Can't relate.
Diamond Ball 2015

There's no colour too bold, no dress too big and no fabric too silky for Robyn Fenty. The Diamond Ball is an annual event, hosted by Ri, that sets out to raise money for the Clara Lionel Foundation; a non-profit organisation named in honour of her grandparents, Clara and Lionel. It's safe to say she brings her A-game on the carpet every. damn. year.
Met Gala 2017

We love a queen who sticks to a theme! The Costume Institute's 2017 exhibition was titled Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between, and Rihanna - ever the thoughtful guest - wore a Comme des Garçons look from the Fall 2016 collection. The deconstructed-petal dress undoubtedly stole the show.
Valerian premiere 2017

Serving you candyfloss realness at one of many Valerian premieres she attended in 2017, Ri once more turned to Giambattista Valli Couture to bring the goods. We're craving something sweet all of a sudden. Anyone else?
amfAR Gala 2014

RiRi basically broke the internet back in 2014 when she attended the amfAR Gala wearing this peek-a-thigh Tom Ford dress. Shutting the black carpet down - and the internet - is all in a night's work for Rihanna.
