From kisses to periods and beyond: your favourite stars get candid about their firsts
9 March 2018

You might be familiar with Radio 1's Life Hacks (and, if not, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!) but you might not be so familiar with the Life Hacks Podcast. Well, that's all about to change...
Katie and Dr Radha tackle a smorgasbord of issues during their Life Hacks chats, from mental health to cosmetic surgery, but the Life Hacks Podcast is your one-stop shop for some properly candid chat; no subject is off-limits!
In celebration of their first podcast, the dynamite duo kicked off proceedings with a chat about all things 'firsts'. We're talking periods, sex, alcohol and kisses! So, naturally, we've rounded up some celebs who have dished on their firsts, too. Without further ado, here's what the stars had to say about their experiences...
Rihanna on her first kiss

First kisses can be an awkward business, so it's nice to know that even our favourite stars don't have the smoothest of first smooches.
My first kiss was in high school and it was the worst thing, everRihanna
Enter: Rihanna, setting a benchmark with a less-than-shining review of hers...
"My first kiss was in high school and it was the worst thing, ever," Rih told Rolling Stone. "He pretty much dumped his entire saliva glands into my mouth. It traumatised me. I didn't kiss for, like, ever."
Long story short: it probably won't be perfect and that's totally fine.

Jessie J on her first period

A whole host of celebs got candid about periods in a piece shared by Action Aid last year, and Jessie J was among them...
It is what it is and it's a big part of growing up and being a woman. Embrace it!Jessie J
"I started my period at 12 years old. I was at my best friend’s house and we both ran around screaming not knowing what to do. Luckily I had my mum and my two older sisters who I could be really open with and were always there in educating me on tampons and sanitary towels and the different shapes and sizes. So I knew kind of what to do and what it was. It can all be very confusing. SO MANY!"
"It is what it is and it's a big part of growing up and being a woman. Embrace it! And know every woman's body is different and deals with pain, cramps, bleeding differently. So work out what is best for you."

Harry Styles on his first time

Harry Styles is pretty tight-lipped when it comes to his private life, but that didn't stop the Sign Of The Times singer divulging about his first time to OK! Magazine back in 2012.
"The first time I had sex I was scared I got the girl pregnant. That was despite the fact we were safe. Luckily we were fine... I would never risk not wearing a condom, it's too much of a risk."

Taylor Swift on her first alcoholic drink

During the podcast, Katie and Radha chat at length about their early experiences with drinking alcohol: from being more-than-merry in front of teachers to trying to get ahead of your hangover by drinking as much water as humanly possible, it's safe to say that experiences with alcohol can vary massively.
I was so paranoid about getting in troubleTaylor Swift
One person who waited until her early twenties to experience alcohol was Taylor Swift, but her decision was quite heavily based on the impression she was setting for her younger fans.
"I did wait until I was 21 to drink," the Grammy winner explained in an interview with Barbara Walters. "I was so paranoid about getting in trouble or setting the wrong example or sending the wrong message."
"I put every one of my actions through a filter before I do them because that's the way my life is. That's the reality… If I do something reckless or thoughtless or careless, or I treat someone badly, that doesn't just affect me; it affects that person. Then, if that story gets out, or some 10-year-old sees that I did that in a news article… my actions do have ripples."
We don't all have the stress and pressure that comes with being a mega-star but it's obviously worth noting that drinking responsibly is key. Hangovers aren't a whole heap of fun, after all!
