Rae Morris’s haunting (but in a very, very good way) rendition of the ‘90s classic from East 17 is spot on. Its slight change in temp and stunning vocals make this a worthy version of the boy band’s 1994 hit. But wait, there’s more! She casually goes into Silent Night halfway through. And you know what, it really works!
Olly Murs - Last Christmas
Olly Murs gave us a super seductive version of 1986 mega hit Last Christmas by Wham! Vocals and instrument slow it right down so instead of the slightly upbeat sound we hear from George Michael, we get a sultrier and, dare we say, even more alluring version of the festive tune.
Jake Bugg - Happy Christmas (War is Over)
We’re used to hearing the unmistakable vocals from Beatles legend John Lennon, but here Jake Bugg does a sterling job at recreating his own super emotive version. Half channelling Lennon, half contemporary and doing his own thing, it’s a hard one not to feel ridiculously nostalgic and excited about.
Coldplay - White Christmas
OK, is there nothing Chris Martin and Coldplay can’t do? The music legends may be able to come up with hit after hit in terms of their own original songs, but covering classic stuff is achieved just as well. I mean, a lot of singers would find it hard to follow Bing Crosby (who recorded it first) but they knock it out the park with their breathy and well-paced version of the all-time classic.
Tom Odell - Spending All My Christmas With You (Next Year)
Mr. Odell’s funky Spending All My Christmas With You (Next Year) is a super-cool rock ‘n’ roll style tune that will get everyone up and dancing along. Oh, you already are? Well point proven! The backing singers and live band accompanying him makes this one of the more upbeat Live Lounge festive performances to enjoy.
Bastille - Christmas medley
