Lights, Camera. . .

Chris Evans | 10:26 UK time, Thursday, 26 May 2011

...Currently sitting in the middle of a camera crew (big - film - proper, 30 people at least), recording a trail for 2 Day.

The day when Radio 2 is gonna shake itself up into a frenzy. It's gonna be like putting all our presenters and their programmes in a tombola, and seeing where they come out in the schedule.

Zoe Ball and myself are scheduled to hit the air at midday with Rock n' Roll Back The Years.

2Day, all of Radio 2 in one day Wednesday June 22nd.

Exciting!

    Good morning CLP,

I think Wednesday 22nd June sounds fabulous, unfortunately I will be at work so will miss most of it:((

    Good luck with the trail.

I'm sorry CLP, but I have just checked out SamCam's kitchen and it does absolutely nothing for me! Oh well, it wouldn't do if we all liked the same things, would it?

    Morning all

Chris, are you all powdered up like Simon was on Drivetime?

22nd June sounds like fun - a bit like a pick n mix - you never know what you're going to get!

Hope you and Zoe work out what you're going to do before you switch the mikes on!

Maddy, enjoy your trip out today, the fresh air will feel good i expect!

Gail, have a good holiday (i think, unless my mind is playing tricks on me)

Usually i am on my own at work but today there are 3 contractors on site, my boss is here with a chap from account and we've had coffee morning!!

They're all out of the building for a while - peace and quiet at last!

Hi Chris: what a sweetheart you are, taking time to write us a wee blog while waiting for your cue! Looking forward to 22nd June, though I will have to listen again to almost all of it!

Hi everyone else, hope all is well.

CG: hope you have a very happy birthday - enjoy your day. xx

Maddy: hope you enjoy your trip out to get your prescription - wrap up well!

Bids and AliB: aww, you two weren't bragging or gloating about your weather yesterday - it's not your fault the rest of us were wet and freezing! xx

Gail: hope you and David have a lovely holiday. xx

Debbie C: nice to see you here yesterday. Hope everything is ok with you.

    CSN: hiya!

Fairlyodd: hiya to you as well!

Annie: how lovely about your wee grandson loving your cakes!

AliB: what a shame about the wee cygnets. Natural can be quite cruel. And sorry to hear about the hay fever, must be horrible.

Cheryl: well, you know me and my remedies for a cold: don't forget the Vick's! Yes, I know it smells quite strong, but oh boy, it works!

I'm having the afternoon off work today: me, my sister and brother in law are going to the Hospice to thank the nurses who took care of my sister - they were so wonderful, I really don't know how the do the job they do.

Hope everyone has a good afternoon.

Afternoon, from a rain kissed north west,

Dozy, sounds like you will need a holiday to get over your holiday, hope you have a great time, Mr MC was asking after you and sends his regards ;-)

Maddy, take care out there today, hope you are ok. I remember after we were ill at Christmas, it felt strange to be fully dressed, free of my slanket and out in society again!!

Sezza, hello, hope you are ok .

Chrissie, hope you are ok , yes, those hospices are run by truly special people .

    Happy birthday CG .

    Afternoon all

Nice to see some 'old' faces reappearing. Sorry I've not been around much, v busy at mo.

OH had to take our very old and grumpy cat to vet yesterday, fearing that she would come back alone. Thankfully we have a reprieve for mo, but cat may have a tumor on her tongue and if so there's nothing to be done :(. We shall see on Friday.

Sorry to hear that Andy, we've also got a very old grumpy puss in our house (apart from me!), and her days are numbered as well, she seems ok at the moment so that's fine.

Afternoon all - goodness, haven't been here in quite a while. I'll have a rummage and see if I can find a note...

Sounds like a fantastic day's radio Mr E (ooh, now, was that a song? Or a band? Mr E's something-or-other...). Might have a wee listen again too :-)

Maddy, good luck on the going out, hope it turns into a pleasant day for you - take it easy though, no races alright??

Chrissie, I'm so sorry, didn't realise your sister had passed away. I hope you enjoyed the time you had with her. Know what you mean about the hospice nurses, they're amazing eh xx

    Gail, have a lovely holiday!

Andy, poor moggy, hope you get some positive news tomorrow x

Well I'm at home today, despite it being a Thursday. Went with a friend for a bite to eat and to see Ed Byrne last night (I laughed so hard I nearly wet myself, but that might be too much information for here...) - had a great time but I woke up this morning feeling decidedly queasy, so thought I'd best not risk the 45 minute journey to work. Torn now between tidying and just sitting here surfing :-)

    Hello.

I'm back and survived the expedition, thanks for the good wishes. Collected the prescription and then even went on to the post office and bank.

The rain stopped but was replaced by very strong wind, I suppose it's better than getting both at the same time. When is the summer going to arrive, maybe on the 1st June or am I being optimistic?

PS Andy-I hope the cat will be OK, it's so upsetting when they're not well.

Just taking five after work ,not cooking toninght as I'm out with some friends for dinnner ,they normally come to me but we're a bit overdue with our get together so we decided going out would be good.

Andy ,sorry to hear about your poorly puddy cat,not nice when your pets are not well.

Flower ,hey !!! nice to see you , My choice would be feet up and a bit of surfing.

Maddy ,well done on your first trip out .don't forget little steps .do not want you poorly again.

    Hope everyone elseis Ok.

Deebie ,forgot to say hi to you yesterday ,and nice to see you popping in.

Am going to sit for another ten minutes before having to get ready for going out . Think i'd rather put my feet up to behonest now that I have sat down.

    Aye up.

I've been at home since about 11am too Flower. I was working on spreadsheets this morning and my eyes were burning and streaming so despite losing a day's pay, I just couldn't stay there. Came home, spare duvet out of the cupboard, a hot lemonny cold remedy, a box of tissues and I've been dozing on and off all day.

Hope you feel bettererer soon - but yes, Ed Bryne is brilliant isn't he. We saw him last Friday (my third time) and he just gets better and better.

Chrissie - Im saving the vix for bedtime!

This R2 day sounds grand but as said above, I'll be at work so will miss most of it. It's a shame it's not been programmed for a Bank Holiday Monday or weekend day really, but hey ho.

Bids - enjoy your evening out, you devil!! ;-)

Dozy - have a fab holibob. Give me a shout when you get back and we can kick ideas around about the blog meet- but yes, definitely one for the caravan!

We thought it would be nice to try and arrange a more "family day" - picnic, silly games, blankets on the ground etc. Yes, it's right on our doorstep but as some of you know, weekends are different now as we have Nic's little lad every weekend.

We have a plan for the evening but we're waiting to see how many are up for the idea of the picnic first.

And there's a fair few budget hotels round here, and also a very good CCC site if anyone wants to bring a tent and make a weekend out of it.

    Evening all,

Well here I am back on the sofa and supping a nice cold glass of pinot, couldn't drink as I was driving .
Have had a lovely catch up up with friends and as you do put the worlds to right ,and I was pleased to see that one of my friends that lost one of her sons just two years ago in a tragic accident has accepted what happened and is so much a stronger person for going through that trauma.

Well cant really say much about the meal as it was *****y awful,I should have guessed when on arriving at the pub ,the car park wasn't that full.I always think that a sign of good pub grub is a full car park.
Well it's once bitten twice shy for this old bird ,wont be going back there again.shame as it's in a beautiful little village just off the M3

Also saw a nasty accident on the way back all the three 999's were there .Always makes me think at times like that and I always say to myself ,there go I but for the grace..... and always think of those poor families that are going to be expecting there loved ones home ,so sad .

Never know how to finish a post like this sometimes after feeling a bit melancholy ,But I just know that I'm lucky and happy to be who I am, and have what I have, and above all who I have.

    Good night and God Bless.

#24, #33. I've just popped in from next door, where as you will know, they've been discussing, amongst other things, the slow demise of this blog. I came to see what they were on about, and was astonished by the lack of activity. Last time I poked my nose around tyhe corner, this place was positively jumping. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the 'about this blog' section above claims it to be the DAILY blog of the C.E. show, yet here I am commenting on the blog from Thursday, and it's mid Friday afto. I think you folk deserve better. Pop in next door, where we will have a nice cuppa waiting for you. And a quick message to CLP. Pull yer blimmin' finger out!

    Hiya:

Barney: I am not part of Simon Mayo's blog. I have read it from time to time- he writes a brilliant blog as far as I can see - a real insight to his life - but the purpose of his blog would appear to have one's song suggestion played, and to be mentioned on Drivetime. Fair play to all Simon's bloggers - a few of which are also loyal also to Mr Evans.

I have to say that I have no concern whatsoever as to what anyone else thinks about Chris Evans. I have my own opinion regarding him, and I am entitled to that. As far as I am aware, Chris and Jonny have a terrific relationship. Chris is always fullsome in his praise of Jonny, and indeed has dedicated two unforgettable blogs to him on this blog - you read it every day, so you will know this. This morning, Chris was full of praise for Jonny, because Jonny was on top of his game, which Chris loves.

I do not believe for one second that Jonny Saunders is a "Sports Monkey" or that he is brown-nosing Chris. Jonny is a superb sports reporter, and broadcaster - I can't imagine why anyone would want to take a pop at him. But then, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Barney, I cannot for the life of me understand why you hang around here. You contribute nothing, and I mean nothing, when it comes to Chris Evans. As far as I can recall, you have never offered that man a single word of friendship. But look, it's your prerogative to take a pop at him (and us). No worries, the world-wide-web is up for grabs for all of us.

Peace and love, as dear old Ringo would say.

Paul: nice to see you popping in. I think you will find that the Chris Evans bloggers are a different kettle of fish. Yes, we had our "glory days" when the blog was buzzing, but now it appears to be a place where people can come when they want to. It matters not a jot to me that Chris can't write a blog every day, but hey, maybe that's just me.

    Plum: how you doin'?

See, that's the thing that gets me about the Barney's and Plums/Liam's of this world ... all to quick to come on here and have a go at everyone else, yet contributing absolutely nothing, nada, nowt to the original subject of the blog, or any of the subsequent posts.

This time last year the blog was devoted to one very special lady, and as has been mentioned already this week, Chris wrote a great blog and played something special on his show to mark her passing.

Who in their right mind would choose this week, of all weeks, to come back again under yet another transparent guise purely to stir things up?

If it wasn't so sick, it'd be funny.

Chrissie, I agree with everything you have said. You have put my feelings and thoughts into words well

Paul of Sheffield, i popped over to Simon's blog earlier as I'd heard that was where the party was and I'm sad to say i felt I wouldn't be welcome there. A blog that seems to spend a lot of it's time criticising another blog isn't really very tempting and some of the comments about poster on this blog made me uncomfortable. nb my kids are never gawjus!

I think Simon and Chris have shown that the Drivetime chair is an easier place to blog from. Having the whole day to post your blog and then use it to feed into the show gives it a very different vibe

It would be nicer to have more blogs from Chris but I just thought that he is quite busy now and, especially given the way blog conversations veer away from the intitial subject, it doesn't really matter if he post a few times a week instead of everyday

I didn't realise that blogging was such a competitve activity. All this talk of "our blog is better than yours"! Does it really matter how many post are on a blog if the people posting don't mind?

Can't we all just post where and when we like? and maybe, rather than dropping in with a snipey comment, say something really friendly?

I listen to the Breakfast Show and Drivetime and enjoy both. It's sad to think that some people see us as in competition. I'm sure we won't be come Children in Need day

Now, I've got something chilling in the fridge, one taxi run and I'll be opening. Anyone want to join me?

    Afternoon all,

Had a little bit of excitement at work today.

Opposite to where I work there is a recess for the buses to pull in,so wilst I was upstairs this afternoon I noticed that there sat in the recess was a fire engine and a police car .
Well just being a little bit curious I stopped what I was doing and watched what was going on. Out pops three burly fire fighters ,one carrying a big ladder, one a large jemmy, and the other I wasn't quite sure what he had.

And following them was a police women ,something bigs going on I thought but couln't see any smoke or smell any. whats going on I was wondering now, saw a few people chatting ,signing to each other and pointing.

A good hour later the burly fire fighters appeared back to their appliance and packed up the kit and went on their way .

I did before leaving for home find out what the problem was ,A little old lady was in her bathroom and couldn't get out ,now that got me thinking ,that maybe be I should start taking a larger towel in to the bathroom from now on ,as you never know whose going to pop by do you !!!!LOL.

    shall I go now ;))

#187- Sorry Sezza - the very valid comments that have been made in here [the Mayoblog] about Chris, his relationship with JS and inattendance to his loyal bloggers was in no way intended as a dig at you lot.
The fact that I was explaining the 'gorgeous' bit to our Gazza [a Mayoblogger]was extremely insensitive timing and can only have added to that impression.

I've popped back from over the fence. With a bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates. All right, I get the chocs at cost price, but hey, y'know! I was pleased that Sezzagirl came a'callin' but dismayed to see that she felt she might be unwelcome. I fully understand, though, as some of the comments made could indeed have seemed a bit critical, but although I can't really speak for others, I don't think any harm was meant.Certainly not by me, although it is well known my foot does tend to find attraction in unwarranted places. My purpose in visiting earlier was simply to let folk on here know, if they didn't already realise, that there are other BBC blogs to come and mingle and chat on.
This Chris Evans/Simon Mayo rivalry thing. I'm not sure it exists, it may do, but if it does, I choose to ignore it. I have certainly never felt unwelcome on either side of the fence, but I thought that seeing as Chris seems to have demands upon his time, and let's face it, we've all been there, and those demands seem to preclude him from posting a new blog everyday, then why not join in the fun on Simons blog. The two blogs are not mutually exclusive, after all, and one that refreshes on a more regular basis might be fun, is all. I see no reason for any competitiveness, and I am sure that CLP will continue with this blog, posting when it seems to be right. He doesn't seem to have transformed into some form of bloghating monster to me.
In fairness, when I was a newish Dad, I found that my priorities had to change (Blimey, was it really THAT long ago), that is what life gives us.

So, please, don't anyone feel that they are not welcome next door, indeed I'm sure that we will all be glad to welcome all of you. And perhaps some of us should pop over here more often. Rich Tapestry, and all that.

Now, 50 odd minutes to sdhop closing time, and I will be joining SezzaGirl in a spot of inebriating beverage. Cheers!

Doesn't the word 'shop' look odd, if you happen to accidentally put an eronious 'd' in it?

Helllooo (pops head round the corner) Is it safe to join in?

Did somebody declare FNWC open? I'm here with the usual. For tea (dinner) tonight we will be mainly having Chinese from a new takeaway/delivery that promises no MSG!!! We will wait and see if the flavour is better. That will be a bit later though as we have to work around Stenders which the OH doesn't watch and goes out of the room when it's on so it's difficult to serve dinner at that time.

Only 2 more working days before my holibobs, not that I'm counting of course.....

Can I just say, Chrissie - well said. nuff said.....

I shouldn't worry about it; as long as Plum and I are drawing breath you could only ever be the third most unpopular person on this blog and that's only because the Navy Seals recently took out the previous incumbent of that position.

    Evening all

How nice to have the thought that it must be Friday by now (busy week yet again and I was sure when I came home last night that should've been it for the week) confirmed by the Candyman this morning. That must mean no Grindstone tomorrow, hurrah!

Down side to days off that four letter word beginning with "w" (it's banned at weekends don't you know) is that I find something else to fill the day with. Just writing myself a list so I don't forget any of the things that need doing tomorrow... it's looking longer than the list of outstanding stuff at the grindstone :( Still, hopefully there'll be some daylight hours left to do some sewing in... I live in hope me ;)

Just had tomorrow's breakfast (pain au chocolat and a glass of milk if anyone's wondering) for tea as couldn't be bothered to make a proper meal, so I guess it'll be cereal in the morning instead. Perhaps, since the bar was declared open some time back, I ought to go and find something slightly more alcofrolic to toast the weekend and absent friends with.

    Hugs to all

    I like Barney!

He won't thank me for rushing to his defence, but ho hum!
Over the years, Barney has contributed jokes, honest opinion and some criticism (you can decide how fair it was), I had a little spat with him ages ago. It ended when I realised that what he had said was neither offensive or wrong.
Please give him a break and don't take what he says too seriously. You can sure that he isn't.....
More than that though, please don't put him in the same box as other bloggers who come on here to offend and upset. I promise you, he's not in that business.
Barney, lighten up mate, we could use your humour at the moment.

Well, that's my tuppenceworth. I'll be back later to talk some gibberish and have some fun.

    Lots of love (honest!)

Sezza: child in question due in mid July. My plan is to have all the border done by due day so all I have left to do are the birth details and get it framed as soon after arrival as possible, as I did for Soon to be Big Sis (finished her border with a week to spare). Slowly creeping towards half way round the border currently. Could put the lamp on and do some tonight, but I think the long week (month / year?!) and alcofrol may mean I end up undoing tonight's efforts next time I pick the needle up.

Bit chilly here too (I have a jumper on amongst other clothing), but am blobbing in a skirt (stretchy one) as the trousers I wore to the grindstone today are probably a size too small... this means I also have a draft round my ankles that I'm not used to!

Just had a read back and would like to say, that I love the differences that both blogs offer.

Just going to copy what I have posted next door, I like to think of it as a semi, rather than detached...

The first comment was referring to a discussion about CLP and JS......

I still say I know which one looks better in a leotard.

Like to think, that I can post happily on both blogs and remain pretty neutral. There just hasn't been many folk to chatter with on CLPs blog lately. Plus I have quite a lot going on at the moment. Busy time of the year and all that.

I love both blogs for the differences between them. It would be very dull if they were both the same.

Had a wonderful afternoon. Totally m/way free. Hope everyone has reached their destinations safely.

    Cheers me dears.

I hope you don't mind but I have also copied what I have posted next door.

If I can add my two pennorth.......

I love both blogs. Infact, I originally dipped my toes into the blogging world on the CLP blog when he was on Drivetime. I have a huge affection for the bloggers next door who have always made me feel very welcome. When Chris went over to the Breakfast slot, some of us drifted over to the Drivetime blog (a bit like cross pollination!), especially as Simon carried on the tradition of ARF and also asking us to help choose the songs. I love all the music banter here, but find keeping up with both blogs a huge distraction and time consuming (in the nicest possible way).

As far as I'm concerned, there is no 'us and them', just 'us', and I mean ALL of us. Some of the best fun to be had is when we all get together.

And Deevs........don't you go anywhere .....that's an order! ;-)

    Hi Rips and MTF :)

Sezza: just the one sock? ;)

Just stumbled on a positive thought to keep me going... not long til my holibobs! It's just dawned on me that I've booked a week and a half off from the grindstone in mid June and while I'm currently drowning in preparing for month end paperwork there, it does mean the next couple of weeks should fly by and there's light and escape at the end of the tunnel. I'm in desperate need of a change of scene... no doubt it'll fly just as quickly, but still, I'm looking forward to it :)

    Hello.

I've been reading the comments and decided that silence is golden but have now realised that is not the best attitude to have regarding blogging (maybe this is what CLP is doing lately LOL!) and if everyone took this course of action it would not be the answer.

The way I see it is not for us CLP bloggers to go over the fence but for half of the Mayo bloggers to jump over here.

    Problem solved!

    Mr Rips

I am typing this with a tear in my eye!

I was about to break my own rule of not making adverse personal comments about fellow posters after what was written about me earlier, but having read your post I realised that it's just not worth it and that I should just plough my lonely furrow and ignore what people say.

As for our earlier spat, to misqote the Bard "The course of true bromance never did run true".

    World cup prediction?

The one advantage, this side of the fence, or should that be 'very low hedge?' is that there isn't the 'really annoying' 3 minute wait between posts.

So, Hi Marj. Bet you are really pleased to have got out and about.

Ok I get that we are looking forward to November - I am too buuuuut, don't we have a summer and holibobs (not necessarily in that order) to look forward to first???

Well said Rips (and well responded Barney).

The chinese was surprisingly good - smaller portions and a bit more expensive than our usual deliverer but very tasty (all eaten). They'll get another order from the toedipper houshold.

Still on the merloot - anybody else joining in???

Hi Oz, Seza, Stace, MCW and MM,

I couldn't agree more with the anti competitive posts.
Two very different blogs, populated by quite different demographics, fulfilling very different goals.
Simon's blog (which I championed from day one, as a fan of his R1 then R5 stuff) is like a seek and destroy mission, populated by people with more musical knowledge than the R2 archive.
I often feel like I can't compete with the high level of music choices that are made by his hardcore bloggers. Occasionally, I find a topic that hits my radar and I get stuck in. They never fail to acknowledge me or in some way bring me into the blog discussion.
I have also witnessed their tensions....there was a very measured discussion some months ago regarding the bloggers who flood their posts with suggestions for that day's topic v those who did their best but feared duplicating earlier contributions.
It was fraught but polite and eventually fizzled out.

As a 'die hard' Chris Evans fan, I don't give a monkeys how often he blogs, as long as he does!

It would be nice to have the access and contact we once did, but as I think the press have recently proved, it pays to be a little more guarded.

EIther way....are you happy contributing to the blog/blogs you prefer?
If the answer is yes. Carry on.
If the answer is no. It's out of your control, don't worry about it!
