What about a mobility scooter sprint race Chris? Actually just lately I've been noticing how my red scooter is so yesterday. The in colour is black or black or silver. This has got me thinking as to how do I dispose of a scooter? Do they do part exchange? I've also noticed how widely advertised scooters are, this weeks TV listings magazine alone has many ads.

Notta single stupid commercial break ter wreck the live coverage..... Excellent all day commentry and analysis..... And Radio 2's programmes 'ave bene excellent.... From your extra show CLP... Ter The Mayo's live from the gig evening events and the programmes on R2 in the evening i've really enjoyed: Of the 'istory... Analysis on 'ow to compete... And the blaggers comedy guide (VERY funny!!!!!!!).
I really found it interesting too the programme on Wednesday about 'ow more champions believe in god than athiests!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Annie-you're right, I think and hope that the Olympics will inspire young people and also create better role models.

Scarlerow-Nobody has to watch if they don't want to, there are plenty of other channels.

Bids-Yes the vet said that from the speed with which Tom's kidney failure was happening it looked like poisoning and as Daisy had been coming in with bright blue bits stuck to her fur which I kept on picking off it seemed obvious that it must be slug pellets. It says on the label 'not harmful to animals & birds' but it seems some are. I've asked the neighbours each side, they haven't got them down but they'll ask around. The good news is that Tom is recovering very well with the help of his pills & special diet.

It's my turn now (not as serious as Tom's or my usual copd excaberbation needing treatment )but I was making my tea at 5pm when suddenly I felt nauseas (the meal wasn't that bad lol) but after eating half I brought it back up. Stomach pain & vomiting continued so I've been lying down until now. I've no idea what caused it, the last time I was sick was in 2006. Now trying a cup of tea to see what happens!

Just listening to Chris, missed the Mo bit so will listen again later, I'm going to really miss the shows, they have been brilliant, but I think CLP is off for a well earned rest next week so double missing! We've got Ryan again - at least its not RM - phew!

Debs-I've just listened to the last half hour, heard most of the show but missed the final bit. Wasn't it great listening to all the gold winners commentaries again, so exciting & emotional. Britain has so much to be proud of! And I liked Chris's final song Oh Rio Rio!

Good morning all,

Well what a night last night was ,don't know how we're going to top that . It's been a great two weeks for this country of all in sport and other quarters . But most of all it all seemed to go off peaceful ,that was my main worry if you get my drift ,I wont spell it out.

Feeling strange here at the moment as no1+2 grandsons have gone round to their own home to see to their guinea pigs and prepare for mum and dads return ,they have popped home each day as now they are older ,and they have done the washing ,cleaned the lounge ,and the kitchen ,what boys ,their parents should be so proud because I am ,and the oldest isn't even 15 yet.

Maddy ,I see you've not been well ,I hope you're feeling better now ,It might be the worry of your Tom ,or even the weather being a bit hot for you ,that is if it has been up your way ,Take care of yourself .

Not much on for us today apart from usual chores ,unfortunately I've got to do my own ,where did I go wrong ..lol..

Might go and have a walk along the sea front this afternoon all being well, that's if the weather hols as they have forecast rain today but I quite like walking in the rain .

Re: your grandsons - no wonder you are proud of them - very impressive and it just shows how well they have been brought up. Such a credit to the family. xx

Well, I just loved the ceremony last night - so much of it just fantastic, some of not quite so fantastic but generally, it was great. I loved Ray Davies, Madness, Eric Idle and Emeli Sande (what a voice) and, you know, I thought One Direction were terrific! And of course it was wonderful to see Take That - how incredibly brave of Gary - he must be in agony, it was so brave of him to perform last night.

Today sees major house cleaning. It's raining here, so no point in going anywhere - will just have to knuckle down and get some cleaning done!

Wow, what a blast the last couple of weeks have been. I have loved every minute of the coverage. It has spurred me on to go and have a look for tickets at the Velodrome and Aquatics centre in Manchester and appreciate these sports live .
So glad it has gone so well, there will always be bits that some liked and others didn't but thats the nature of the beast. I am just so proud that as a nation we hosted a superb event for the Whole world to take part in or watch where ever they may be.

Right, back to the grindstone , i feel like I have been here a week already .

Oh What A Night! How wonderful was the closing ceremony. I loved the John Lennon tribute and it got me thinking this is what the Olympics did. All the nations brought together looking so happy, the world as one. Only sport and music can do this. I enjoyed the whole thing (well maybe except for one or two bits). Boris Johnson makes me laugh, how appropriate to have an eccentric London mayor.

None of the doom & gloom predicted by the press happened and it has all brought so much optimism to Britain.

PPS I'm AOK now thanks and Tom is recovering very well although it has taken it out of him and he's not as lively and playful as he was. I suppose it's only to be expected, it takes us humans a while to recuperate.

Agree the Olympics have been excellent and made us proud of being British. Friend attended a couple of events the first week and said it was 'efficient without being officious' good humoured and good manners combined. I hope that sums up the best of our British character.

Over the weekend I was in Deevs country. Visited the National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield. What an inspirational place. Still very immature but will be stunning in another 10 to 15 years. To cap it all off a Spitfire flew over the memorial bang on half past three. Never seen one before at such close quarters, goosebumpy moment.

Hello all, hope you're well?
Longtime no blog, I know, I have no excuses really other than laziness.
Weren't the 'lympics great? From the opening ceremony right through to last night. Yeah I know some of the acts aren't to everyone's taste but all-in-all good job, well done in my opinion. I love the fact that I've been reduced to tears, laughed, shouted and generally wished & prayed for GB'ers to win - or at least do well.

Life's good in chez gingembre, kids doing well at school, eldest on course for good GCSE's anf the little 'uns growing up far too quickly. The long suffering MrsW is still my rock amd I continue to punch well above my weight.
I have the difficult second album syndrome coming up, it's year 2 of the charity fun run I organise in the village to remember the first MrsW and others lost along the way. All in aid of CRUK. Got 200 confirmed entrants and all systems go for Sept 9th.

Been running quite a lot again as I build up to the London marathon 2013, I have secured a charity golden bond place with CR and am beside myself with excitement. Knees holdin on at the mo' - don't fail me now please!

Sunny here today, and very very warm. I should be at home cutting my grass and dealing with the washing.
Big big news on the home front ........... we are having central heating installed for the very first time next week. I know you may laugh at this, but we have put if off for 16 years. So next Wednesday the fun begins. Funny how we just decided to do it once all the decorating had been done and floors laid . I bet we have the mildest winter on record !

MC: Welcome to the 21st Century! Aren't we humans contrary creatures? Waiting until you've done major redecoration. Well if we have another mild winter we know who to 'blame'. Though I for one will not be complaining after the previous two. Our road (unadopted) was like a skating rink for several weeks the winter before last.

Mr PJ decided to update our bathroom several months ago. He's now rushing round like a flea in a fit trying to finish it because my friend is comng to stay next week. She's been booked in for nearly 6 months. Men !

Weather here on the border is quite sunny but a bit blustery. No r*** yet.

I have a note from my mum for my absinthe, so please forgive me. Although I admit her handwriting is a tad shaky .....

Still busy busy busy here on Planet Deevs, but I ain't complaining!

I have read everything from the last few days but my sieve of a brain has not retained anything, nor did I take notes. However, I would like to offer big hugs to ChrissieS - the situation with your b-i-l must have been absolutely terrifying, and I really hope he's properly on the mend.

So how are we all coping with life post-Limpix? I have to admit, it's nice to watch some "normal" telly - I missed Tony Soprano during the Games but we are now playing catch-up with the digiboxthingygizmo, freeing up some space for when we leave the country for a week in September.

We had a lovely night last night ..... you know every Tuesday we go to the quiz (me, Nic and Big Al). Well, we've been pooling our winnings over the last few months and last night we went for a meal at the pub where the quiz is (Mrs Big Al came too - she's lovely) and we had a fab meal with our winnings, then went through to the other bar for the quiz and won again! Big Al also won the "nearest to" question at the end (randomly, it appears Big Al is an expert on dodos!) so we came away with £62 to start lining the pot for our Christmas (sorry!) quiz team night out. Sorted!

We may struggle next week though, as Big Al is on holiday next week and we've also got a 6 point handicap before we start as that's the margin of points we won by. Best I feed Nic and I lots of fish in the next 6 days .....

Bids - can you send some of that heavy rain up to the Midlands please? It's really a heavy, oppressive day here and it feels like we need a really good thunder storm to clear the air.

Sezza - did you do any of those big hills in the Lakes? I'm still not sure I've forgiven NicRolastic for "making" me conquer The Old Man Of Coniston last year. Without a doubt, the toughest thing I've ever done, physically, but yes, an amazing sense of achievement that I managed it.

I'm slowly coming down from the Olympics, wow what a fortnight that was, it's going to be hard to top! To quote Miranda Hart on Twitter "Never thought I'd get in and be desperate to watch an obscure sport on BBC 3".

But like Deevs I am now catching up on "normal" telly. We really did ourselves proud and put the "Great" back into Britain. I liked the fact that in Seb's speech, the bit that got the biggest clap and cheer was him thanking the Games Makers, and rightly so.

PJ and Deevs, I often get called Big Ali, especially when I visit my friend in the States; as her daughter has the same name!! I suppose it's preferable to "Old Ali"!

My toe nail is black and no matter how hard I try I can't move my toe, so I guess that's still broken!

Not much else to report. The skies are grey, but it's very muggy - we too need a storm to clear the air.

This weekend I am off camping, not with the kids this year as we are having a sabbatical. But us leaders are going to the site for the weekend to catch up, sort out equipment etc and generally enjoy ourselves without 20+ teenagers :)

Afternoon all. I am so sorry for my absence too, life has just got in the way and I dont have a hope in a handcart of catching up so firstly, hello to everyone and bigs cockneybird kisses to you all.

Quick catch up - Mr CB has gone back to work and we went on a quick family break last week which meant visiting Essex and Kent where I basically got a sight seeing tour of pubs..... the main thing was though that I caught up with Ma and Pa and some friends in Kent I havent seen in an age.

Have loved the lympix and caught some of Chris's coverage could that man get any more excited by it all. It is positively infectious. Didnt we do well.

Me and Mr CB did out first 1940's event in Uppermill on Sunday and bagged a seat on a jeep in the procession. I have bruises I didnt know you could get bruises, it was marvellous, the place was full of people some dressed up and some not, we got loads of compliments on our costumes and there was lots of great music from the old songs to the big bands. Me and 'im have definately got the bug and cant wait for the next one. Got talking to some nice veterans who were just lovely.

I am lilking Ryan at the moment I find him quite funny and hope that CLP is enjoying his break with his family.

Back to the grindstone then. TTFN.

Hiya:

Having a wee catch up - I just cannot believe how quickly the days go when one is at home! We have had a lovely time - both of us doing lots of stuff together, and also having some time to ourselves. Today, a great day for the washing being out on the line - I started at 8am with the bedding, on to towels, and then shirts, etc. My sister called: she said - be aware, we are due rain at 5pm, so don't overdo it. 5.05 - I had to rush out and bring in the remainder of the washing - the Wicked Witch of the North was correct! (apologies to all of you who had a terrible day today - we are getting it for the next few days, apparently!)

PJ: I bet seeing the Spitfire was incredible - I would have loved to see that. Also, I know just what you mean about Mr PJ updating the bathroom, and it taking for ever. MrS and I agreed many, many moons ago that his DIY skills leave a lot to be desired (mine are non-existent) and we have just always had to pay for the professionals. Even a can of W*40 in his hands can cause havoc!

Gingembre: wow, just lovely to see you. I am always quite amazed that so many of the "old" bloggers are out there - just reading, but still feeling part of the blog. Lovely to get an update from you.

Bids: I am so sorry to hear that there has been bad news in your family. It is awful, just awful, and I am thinking of your son-in-law. I know only too well that life is so fragile and everything can change in a heartbeat. xx

MC: good luck with the central heating project! Hey, better ever late than never. OK, it may be another mild winter (please!) but this is the UK - it can't last for ever! xx

CB: the 1940's event sounds terrific. My lovely Mum and Dad were married in 1940 - no photographs of their wedding, but some photographs of them mid-1940's - they were gorgeous and so beautifully dressed! A really terrific time in history. xx

So good to "see" you all again. I did wave when we went passed somewhere I knew one of you was and did a little wave for anyone I'd missed.

We didn't go up any of the big hills on this vist. We were staying on the very Southest point of the Lakes for a GeoCaching Rally so spent a lot of time between grange Over Sands and Cartmel.

We did walk across the bay from Ulverston to the other side - Gibbs had his first experience of swimming in the sea!

He did very well with what was a exciting weekend for him. Lots of walking, lots of people and lots of new dogs!

Think he's pleased to be back though!

I hope everyone is well although do I see Ali has a poorly toe? Ouch!

Hi: just a quick check-in: heading off out at 11am to spend the day/overnight with my sister - I am really looking forward to it. Heavens knows, we just talk absolute rubbish when we are together, but in the main, it's very enjoyable!

Annie: sorry I missed you last night - I had to switch off and serve MrS his mince and tatties! Yes, I agree, it's good if we can stay in touch on the blog, even when Chris is away. Of course, it can be a big effort, and I always understand when people say that "real life" takes over and they don't have time to blog.

Sezza: ooooh, I know, the washing pile must be horrendous! I have no idea where all the washing comes from in our house - there's only two of us, but it is endless!

Chrissie - glad you're enjoying your time off, and yes, being at home is a bit like being in time machine. I thought I'd be kickng my heels working from home but the days just literally disappear. Sounds like your sister should get a job with the ECB - they could do with an accurate weather predictor at cricket matches! And glad that b-i-l is physically ok, but of course, the emotional side will take a bit longer.

Yes Annie, I'm reading "that" book. I'm on book 2 (Darker) at the mo. It's better than book 1 - more of a story rather than all the "shennanigans". I'm not sure if I'll get through all 3 before holibobs but I've got a stack of trashy paperbacks to pack and read, poolside.

Sezza - bless Gibbs! Randall loves the water (something to do with his natural instincts for hunting, I've been told) and he bounds in to any pool, puddle or lake at the first opportunity.

I was thinking - has anyone seen or heard from Jakeygirl lately? I've not seen her on FB or Twitter - did I miss something? I hope you're OK if you're lurking JG xx

DAY 1 (Mondee) - Ate as much beetroot as both me mind and bowels will allow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 (beetroot the main diet for power cyclists as it 'elps the oxygen in the blood!!!!!)

DAY 2 - (Tuesdee) - Checked out the cost of a top track cycle..... 20k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh dear oh dear..... Noot ter worry.... Build up me legs ter give MEGA power ter overcome the disadvantage of not 'aving a 20k carbon fibre light weight cycle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DAY 3 - (Wednesdee) - Saw Lucozade on BOGOF at me local supermarket..... Went mad and spend £92 on Lucozade/ cleared the shelves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DAY 4 - (Thursdee/ Terdee) - A will tell all about DAY 4 on DAY 5 as ave noot done anything yet as am still demolishing me ceiling..... Talking of which.....

have been oop north for a couple of days and can confirm MC's rain comments - it was like comedy rain as if someone up there had tipped a bucket over! Had some more of it down here today too.

Now I'm very glad MC is getting her heating sorted next week as we need a week and weekend of warm and dry in prep for carfest, dont want a mudfest do we!

Am looking forward to it very much but also at the same time dreading it! Havent camped for over 10 years, have a dodgy knee, ankle and as a result of them dodgy back and hate creepy crawlies! Why am I doing this!!!!

However, my friend at work has been selected to enter a pie in pie vs cakes so will mostly be looking forward to "supporting" her when she meets a certain blue eyed baker judge.....

Thanks everyone. I'm having such a lovely day - reflecting how much things have changed in the last 12 months, as per Deb's post yesterday.

Well, The Love Of My Life has revealed all ..... I'm off to a spa hotel this afternoon, where we're booked in for the night, a meal in their excellent restaurant and an afternoon by the pool, wrapped in a fluffy robe reading "that" book until Nic arrives after work.

Bit of a sad morning here on the border. A light aircraft came down last night. Two people killed - very sad. Don't know if they were flying into our airfield or leaving but they came down near where Mr PJ works south of Chester. RIP. Thoughts with their families.

DAY 4 (Thrusdee) - Analysis Of Me First Cycle 'ome : Lately 'ave been taking me bike on the train ter work but riding 'ome!!!!!!!! (get too sweaty when a arrive at work).... But if a wanter be a track cyclist with power and INDEED pinache AND panache.... Then from now on a NEED ter cycle both to work and back... Noot one way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So after a week were ave been unable ter take me cycle ter work due to needing ter go too B&Q for DIY 'appenings.... And the next an importan tmeeting with The Mangement (don't wanter sit there during the meeting dripping with sweat... They'd think a couldn't 'andle the 'eat of the meeting!!!!!)
Finally Thursdee was the dee a was gonna ride to work and back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So what 'appened ter stop me riding ter work.... Torrential rain.... so a took..... The train!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A know a top champ should power redargless of the weather.... INDEED ave often cycled 'ome when it's below freezing in the winter.... But arriving for work wetter than an otter on a bicycle in the middle of the UK summer is notta good situation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A did ride 'ome and by total coincidence me cycle from work is about 6.8 miles aka 10.94km!!!!!!!!!!! 10km 0r 6.22miles being The Sprint event at the Olympics indoor veeeeelodromedome event!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So a decided ter compare mesen with the Women's sprint (just as a starter comparing with the women as the men's pace could frighten me off me bike!!!!) (the women still go nearly a squick as the men anyway!!!!!!!!!!!)
Me record ter do the 6.8 miles is 22 minutes aka me fav number - whatta coicidence!!!!!!!

But on this Thursdee a did it in 25 minutes.... With mostly a fairly moderate slightly coming from the left 'ead wind... And at times a direct 'ead when a altered direction slightly!!!!!!!!
Me ride is all main roads with slight up and down 'ill all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent for cycle training!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And a did the whole ride in top gear.... Forced mesen up the 'ills without dropping a gear even though it's 'ard going on the legs and lungs!!!!!! (track cycles don't 'ave any gears just a very small cog equal to a VERY top gear for maximum speed!!!!)

Taking inter consideration about 30 seconds of me ride was spent stationary at 2 traffic lights.... a will still count it as 25 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Women's Olympic sprint they did their 10km race in 12mins 39seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's 47.43kph or 29.48mph average!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All indoors with no wind and on the flat aka no 'ills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A did my 10.94km ride 'ome in 25minutes... which is 26.26kph or 16.32mph average!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not bad going and considering am on a 'eavy slower mountian bike notta light weight carbon fibre bike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still a long way ter go ter get me fitness up.... But as am reasonably fit am 'alf way there already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although a insane mountain ter climb ter get as fit and strong as the top male cyclists.... and age against me being only six months from me 40th birthdee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But age is only numbers.... Yer as old as yer feel and a feel like a 25 year old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Soggy this morning as I travelled over the rickety bridge - water everywhere - but it's warm and sunny now.

Bids, thank you. I'm absolutely fine, it's just life gets you down sometimes. I'm sure everyone feels like that now and then and I'm very lucky to have a loving family and friends (all of you included of course).

Hello to Debs Crissie ,and Susan. I tought that voice sounded Familiar reading the sport;-)).

We had the grandsons last w/end and this w/end we now have the boys guinie pigs for the week while they fly off to Greece ,and one of them is none too well so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that nothing happens between now and then ,I just don't want to be the bearer of bad news .

Was expecting it to be blazing here today but it's actualy not thankfully , I'm not complaining as I prefer it a little cooler. just need it to be dry now for all of next week so that the Carfest wont be muddy.

Just putting my feet up for and hour before I go out so I think it's time for tea and biscuits .

Well what can I say - THNAK YOU all for my birthday wishes on here, FB, Twitter, texts, cards etc. If everyone who'd wished me a virtual Happy Birthday had sent a real life card, not only would the Post Office shares be worth having, but I'd be at 1k3@ now buying extra shelving!

I had a fantastic day. After I left you lot yesterday pm, I made my way to the hotel, unpacked, donned my swimsuit and a white robe and then jsut had about 4 hours of relaxing - by the pool, in the sauna, on a heated relaxation bed, in a foot spa .... utter bliss! Nic joined me at about 6.15 and then we had a fantastic meal in the hotel restaurant (a feta salad to start, followed by monkfish in a masala sauce with Thai noodle salad and ice cream for pud. The pud menu was full of rich, indulgent stuff and also a cheese board to die for but we both just wanted some vanilla ice cream! A lovely evening, and a fab night's sleep in a very huge, very comfy bed. Breakfast in bed this morning (crumbs!) and then back home to pick Randall up form the kennels.

The three of us have been to Blists Hill Victorian museum today and it was fab! Loads to see and do, a trip on a mine train and a real life sweets in jars shop where I succumbed to a quarter of Cinder Toffee.

Yes, it's been a really fantastic weekend thus far. Maybe 44's not so bad after all!

Right, not sure about dinner plans but I'm going to see if I can swing a pub meal as I've not been shopping yet and the cupboards are bare!

Have the rest of a lovely weekend, and I'll see you on the other side.

Gorgeous, hot day in Fife. Pootled about in Dunfermline today with friend who is into geocaching - she found one at the Abbots House and almost found another one in the Abbey grounds - we found all the clues but then couldn't work out what they meant!

Have had lovely dinner at daughter's - the little boys are still in the garden firing gallons of water at each other.
