An amazing man...

Chris Evans | 10:18 UK time, Monday, 10 December 2012

This morning former England rugby captain, Will Carling, introduced us to an incredible and heart-warming story about a young teacher from Lancashire. Jimmy Higham, an avid Rugby player, was coached by the same person as Will and went on to become a P.E. teacher. Shortly after his 25th birthday, in November 2010, he was tragically diagnosed with cancer. Despite suffering from this terminal illness, he continued to teach in his 'dream job' at Wellington College and made an amazing impact on the students and staff . Jimmy unfortunately lost his battle with cancer only 9 months after his diagnosis, at the young age of 26. But from darkness came a ray of light in the form of a recording.

Jimmy's friends and family always remarked on his great singing voice but he never pursued a musical career or entered TV talent shows as others encouraged. After his death, a university friend discovered an email Jimmy had sent him before he was diagnosed with cancer, which included a recording of him singing Stevie Wonder's, 'Isn't She Lovely'. Jimmy's friend went on to release the track and made it available for download. The proceeds from the single will go to the Jimmy Higham Bursary Fund, which Wellington College set up in his honour. The bursary will allow 16 year olds to spend their last two years at the college with its excellent facilities - giving them a life changing opportunity.

Like Will Carling, this beautiful track moved me, not only for Jimmy's fantastic voice but the powerful story behind it - which is why it was worth not one, but two plays this morning. The track is growing in popularity and powering its way up the download singles chart.

Hi CLP - nice to see you back!!! I heard the track this morning but didnt know the back story - how uplifting indeed and always good to hear this kind of story at this time of the year - I'll put the call out to the "regulars" to get on here and spread the word.

If you are not back before the BIG day, let me take this moment to wish you, Tash, Noah and Eli a most splendiforous festive season!!!!!

Great to see you and get a hug at CiN too!

Peace and Love - and ALWAYS hugs

Aw. I heard it too.. And Kept missing the explanation. There are too many young people dying of cancer and not enough being done by the Government to support cancer research and therapies. I used to volunteer at a Children's Holiday Home - specifically for Children with Cancer and I have heard stories and met the families of those who have suffered. It is always heartbreaking, but you always find that the best comes and the greatest good is generated and encouraged by the people who tolerated the most. I shall be downloading.

And hey - How long is it since the DWNB posted on the Blog!

  • Comment number 3.

I loved it, and so pleased you played it twice Christoff. Very emotional story behind it, I so hope it does well.

  • Comment number 4.

Yesterday evening I was actually at a Christmas Carol service in Wellington College where we heard part of the story of Jimmy and a collectioon was taking afterwards! What a surprise / conincidence then to hear the interview with Will Carling and the song being played. Absolutely magical and let's get this song to number one! We did it with the Soldiers Wives.

  • Comment number 5.

This isn't a song I like BUT the version is lovely and the story behind it is so sad I didn't mind at all hearing it twice this morning, Chris.

Let's hope it does keep this poor young man's memory alive and raise loads in the process xx

    Love and hugs Bloggers xxx

  • Comment number 6.

Well that story is enough to warrant a blog entry. Lets hope that CLP's backing helps the record take off which in turn will help the Bursary fund help others in Jimmy's memory.

Whilst I am here, can I take the opportunity to wish everyone a merry Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous 2013.

    Best wishes,
    Thunderclap

Hiya Chris: wonderful to see you here again, and what a wonderful blog. I didn't hear any of this, so I will have to listen again. Cancer is just the bane of all our lives, we all know someone who has suffered from it, or is dealing with it now. How wonderful that Jimmy's memory will live on, connected to such an incredible song.

Hi to all bloggers - isn't this great, an early Christmas present from Chris!

    xx

  • Comment number 8.

I'll reply to you in January Christophe!

    Only joking :-)
Hello Chris and how lovely to have a new look blog (but the highest rated & lowest rated at the top has got me a bit worried! Will it cause conflict and paranoia?

There are far too many young people getting cancer these days, each time I've had a stay in the lung assessment ward with my copd there have been people young and old suffering from cancer and I always wonder how they got on and did they recover. 26 years old is far too young to die but like you say out of the darkness has come a ray of light and what a wonderful way for Jimmy to be remembered.

I will be downloading Jimmy's song!

Sad, fabulous, inspiring, heart-breaking, heart-wrenching; hope-filled; devastating. I loved this version of the song as soon as it started this morning but like debs, didn't know the background until I just read it on your blog. You know Mr E, I have often thought of suggesting to you that you have a 'guest appearance' once a week for your Thought For The Day slot - just a regular listener snuck in among the religious folk - someone who has an inspiring story/message to share. I'd volunteer in a heartbeat! Again, like debs - it was great to see you and get a hug at CiN too!!! xXx

  • Comment number 10.

Ooh, this blog looks different doesn't it?! How lovely to 'see' you again Christoph - you have been missed.

I'm sorry that I didn't get to hear the story this morning, but I'll 'listen again', that's for sure.

Oooh not sure i like this new blog look? It still was the same old blog this morning and then someone has snuck in and changed things - progress i suppose?

Lovely to see you all though xxx

Whoever designed the new blog, could they please go back to the drawing board, thank you.

    Hi all

Good to see some of you have got here. I heard the story this morning and (not for the first time) was very glad I don't wear mascara every day, it made difficult driving though...

Like Susan, I don't like the song but that version was (dare I say it) an improvement on the original.

We should be able to keep this one going till Christmas Eve folks.

    Evening all!

Good to see you CLP - I thought we'd all worn you out on 16/11 at CiN!

I've had a really good, but really busy day today. I spent some time reflecting on how things have changed in the last 12 months and to tie in with Chris's post, yes, you CAN achieve anything if you set your mind to it and have belief.

    That's all, for now.

I just logged on to show my wife the story. Having read the story before showing my wife she asked why I had tears rolling down my cheeks.

    Hello Chris ,
Really nice to see back ,have missed you ..I didn't hear the radoi today but anm aware of the story about the lovey chap that lost his fight , and yes this cancer is taking too many young people.

We have just thi last week end lost a brother in law in Canada ,and my son in law is son to loose his uncle..and there still is no cure ..lets hope and pray that maybe there will be light at the end of this heartbreaking dark tunnel...

    Hiya,

I downloaded the song on Thursday when you re-tweeted Max's tweet with the link to the Huffington Post - it's a remarkable story and very moving when you listen knowing the story behind it. Well done for supporting him Chris I hope with your help it will continue to power it's way up the itunes chart.

Hi everyone, I hope you are all safe, warm and keeping well.

    Take care folks!

ps. the new look isn't my cup of tea either.

As a former teacher I know the dedication this man must have felt for his chosen 'dream' career - what a brilliant idea to keep his memory alive and improve the life of others - after the tears stopped I downloaded the song and will now pass the story on to others so they can do the same - if every teacher/former teacher downloaded it just quick of the preceeds this could make :o)

  • Comment number 20.

Good morning Chris, and everyone else,

I hadn't heard about any of this until now but I will certainly be checking it out, as has been said before, we have all been affected by cancer one way or another.

    Have a good day.

But for sure a can see what inspired yer good sen ter write a new blog and WHATTA NICE and most 'eart warming story yer written about on the blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a funny old life.... So many people out there with talent but for whatever reason they never make it or use it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very sad the man in question didn't go on the X-factor or similar but then with modern technology things are becoming more possible ter do such as what 'as 'appened with this new recording/ single!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a cold dee a VERY 'eart warming story!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS Ave just 'ad a BIG rant over the new blog format on Mayo's blog... I'll bang a copy 'ere all of which means the same over on this side!!!!!!!
Why 'ave they '********ered' up the blog???????????????????????

  • Comment number 22.

Greetings Ter Mayo Man & ALL Bloggies...

    Bingo Star 'ere...

We 'ave a well known saying..... :

IF IT'S NOT BROKEN... DO NOT TRY AND FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately in this modern age it seems cool/ the trend ter keep meddling with things/ changing things even though the thing that's being changed/ meddled with is working most nice before it was changed/ meddled with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sadly too the modern outcome of all this changing and meddling is usually when something works well and someone comes along and meddles with the meddled.... Usually they mess up what was once in good order!!!!!!!
This is EXACTLY what 'as 'appened with the blog being changed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why oh why oh why do they 'ave ter keep tinkering with things???????????

Is it those new dudes up at The Salford aka the new giant BBC building who are bored so ter try and find something ter do 'ave decided ter change the blogs!!!!!!!!!!!
Is it computer geeks souced from a BBC open dee at Manchester university who obviously never blog themselves who 'ave changed the blog???????????????@?????@?

Absolutely great... When before yer could see all of Simon's most nice daily blog now yer can only see so mucvh then 'ave ter click ter look for the rest!!!!!!!!!!
Then when yer only needed one click ter see a sensible amount of 100 posts (and ter be 'onest a found clicking onto the more than a 100 posts tedious and annoying expecially if the presenter was on 'olidee and as a result the posts 'ave gone upter 400 plus!!!!!!!!!

But now.... But now...... BOT NOWWWWWWWWWWWW (a can't take it anymore!!!!).... BUT... now... now................ WHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaa.... NOW ter read the DAMN IT blog a 'ave ter click on every 5 or 10 posts ter read everyone's posts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
A do 'ave a job.... A do do up me 'ouse.... A do alot of training for Rio 2016.... In other words a do 'ave a life away from the previously most nice blog.... What am trying ter say is a don't wanter spend all DAMN IT dee clicking onter tiny bits of a blog!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
It's like when a go onter the likes of Argos or B7Q's website shopping.... A immediately don't want the 10 items a page page.... IMMEDIATELY a go onter the show all page or the 'ighest number they allow like 50 items or 100!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A mean if a 'ad a book a wouldn't wanter be looking in the book at 28 DAMN IT pages backwards and forwards... Forwards and backwards... Was it page 11????
    Then back ter page 24!!!!!
Then ter 8 ter see the bit that refers ter 27!!!!!!
Then ter the index page... Was the bit on DAMN IT 7 about the bit on 24 which is also on DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNN IT 12 or wa sit 11??????
NO.... NO ALL...... A would MUCH find it wasier ter 'ave all...... on:
    ONE DAMN IT PAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@@!!@!@!@!@!@!!@!!@!@!@!!@!@@!@!@!@!@!

But the powers that be like everywhere in my life.... Ave seen it so many times with thre council or at work.... Mangement who've NEVER done the job.... Come along with their pen pushing pals and '******ER' up the DAMN WHOLE thing that was most nice before and......

'WAS NOT BROKEN.... SO DID NOOOOOT NEED FIXING!!!!!!'

But they broke it... Blog friends and Si man.... They broke it!!!!!!!!

And they can never admit they are wrong and change it back unless somebody VERY senior 'as words of wisdom!!!!!!!!

Am off ter stalk the beeb DG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS Mayo Man - Don't go too far up north or you'll bump inter the Salford massive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe the end is getting nigh... But am easy either way!!!!!

As for the weather the words of Andy Williams were going through me 'ead yesterdee.... This really is 'the most wonderful time of the yearrrr!!!!!'
Ave always thought 'ow nice it would be ter live in a 'ot country but a do think all year round yer could get bored with the climate!!!!
For sure most would take it for granted!!!
But a was looking yesterdee at work on me travels at the icy frost covered roofs tops, trees and pavements coupled with the flashing Christmas lights everywhere.... And it really 'it me... A love this time of year!!!!!
It's sort of cosy and we are only 9 days from the nights starting ter get lighter... All is most nice!!!!!
    MOST.... NICE!!!!!
A find October the worst month of the year... Into the dark long winter ahead... But now as we are acutally in winter it is wonderful ter get proper winter weather.... And then before we know it we will be in March.... My favourite month of the year as we 'ave the whole year to look forward to ahead!!!!!!
A do think December could be me second favourite month of the year!!!!

Warmth to ALL on a fine December dee!!!!!

PS On the cycling in winter... A 'eard Simon talking about it yesterdee.... A went out last week as it's getting colder cycling for a load of new warm sports/ cycling type gear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A got a good selection... But also for the first time a thought if am serious about cycling... Ave gotta embrace the lycra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    For the first time ever!!!!!!!
A fine pair of lycra trousers were for sale.... A were duely purchased!!!!!

Only problem on trying them on.... A look like a 'camp male ballet dancer!!!!!'

For sure Louie Spence and Lynford Christie would be most proud of me.... Although maybe a little jealous of the bulge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

'ow can a go out in these a thought!!!!!!

A will wear them under me sports pants!!!!!

And a did last week cycling by the seaside.... And they did 'elp keep me abit more warm!!!!!!

Only problem the past 2 nights cycling 'ome at 2am in -7 temp... It's been very painful without them!!!!
As ave left them at me mother's 'ouse!!!!!!
Mondee night a cycled 'ome... 'ad ter be careful as the roads were very icy... So cold that even the gritted road begins ter freeze despite being gritted!!!!!
A wrapped up warm and all was fine except for th ecold getting through me thermal gloves!!!!!
Me fingers were in so much pain a really did think a 'ad cut me thumb!!!!!!
    The pain was so sharp!!!!!!
And a couldn't cycle faster as the faster a went... Well could yer imagine a 30mph wind in yer face of -7 plus minus more!!!!!!!
So a steady 20mph and atime of 21.26!!!!!!

Last night a did the same but with 2 pairs of gloves.... Still a bit cold but far better than the night before!!!!!
Although last night when a got 'ome ice 'ad formed on me front cycle light it was so cold!!!!!!!

Rio 2016 - This is 'ow committed I am.... Really focused & determined I am to ter cycle in such low temperatures!!!!!!!!

    Aye up!

Chrissie - belated Happy Birthday to you - sorry I missed it but I've not been by here all week.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY BONDY

Gingembre, glad the training is progressing. I'm sure your mojo will return soon - we all have peaks and troughs in whatever endeavours we undertake in life.

I must admit to being a tad speechless on reading all your posts people. You all have a dig when Chris doesn't blog for ages (he's a very busy man!), and then when he does blog, you all (ok, not all of you) have a moan about the new format. There's just no pleasing some people! Now, crack a smile and get on with it - it's Christmas! :-)

I've just got back from doing the weekly shop at ELH and admittedly was getting a bit peeved with the checkout lady as she was so slow, and as ever, I was in a hurry (nothing new there!). My opinion changed though when she apologised for keeping me waiting and then went on to tell me that today is her second day back in the job after being off for 28 weeks receiving treatment for breast cancer. What a lovely lady, and how open and honest about her experience - she didn't owe me an explanation nor the time but she was a delight to be served by.

Right, it's not stopped raining all day so it's time to wade out with the dog - he's really big now (for those of you who've not seen his antics on FB) and will be 1 year old on 1st January!

I may pop back later, if work doesn't get in the way .... it appears that all of my clients want their projects delivered by 21st December. YIKES!!!!

    Take care y'all

Chrissie - so sorry I missed your birthday, but I hope you had a lovely day and got thoroughly spoiled!

I've only got three days at work next week before finishing for Christmas, and it can't come soon enough. This is the first Christmas that mum won't be at home, and instead will be at the nursing home. Understandably dad doesn't want to be far from mum, so we've booked and paid for a taxi to take him to the home on Christmas Day, he'll have his lunch there with mum, and then a taxi will take him home whenever he's ready to leave. It's mum's 80th birthday on Boxing Day and we'll be down for that to see them both. Mum's sister-in-law is in the same nursing home, so we're having a little birthday party and will find as much joy in that as we can. I thought I'd come to terms with mum being in the nursing home, but the closer it gets to Christmas, the more emotional I'm getting ... after 58 years of marriage, heaven only knows how dad's really feeling inside about it all.

We've got 'im indoors' mum and brother coming down today for the weekend and the forecast is rain and gales all the way, so I can see a lot of Scrabble being played, with maybe a trip over the road to the tiny cinema for Nativity 2 as a way of escaping for an hour or so!

Have a good weekend one and all and be careful out there - it's a tad breezy!!

    I'm back!

Jilly, you've had a really tough year. I truly hope you have a relaxing Christmas and that 2013 is a better year for you. I think we all get emotional at Christmas one way or another. Look after eachother and make sure there's lots of love. xx

Well, I survived the damp doggy walk. We met a big Boxer Dog up the hill and he and The Lad had a bit of a romp round each other. I'm so relieved that human social etiquette isn't the same a dog social etiquette, if you get my drift ... sniff sniff!

I've also braved the elements (and the ladder) and put the outside Christmas decs up so when MiniNic gets dorpped off by his mum later this evening he'll see them all lit up. Tomorrow is tree putting up day whihc I'm really looking forward to. Then tomorrow night I'll be home alone as Nic has got his works "do". Whoever booked it wants shooting - staff only I can live with. Staff only on a Saturday night is just wrong! Still, I have a pile of DVDs so Hugh Grant and I will just stay in together .... yes, once the tree's up I can indulge in Love Actually. I have chocolates so all will be fine with the world!

Sunday when he gets home from his shindig we're going into Brum to taste and savour the German Christmas Market. Sunday is also our 3rd Anniversary since we met - where did those years go!?!?

Right, I think I can squeeze in a couple of hours work before the cavalry arrive.

    Have fun.

    Morning Greetings To ALL...

    Bingo Star 'ere...

Firstly I just wanted to CONGRADULATE the BBC & Wiggo on winning the BRILLIANT BBC Sports Perosnality Of The Year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've got the show taped and will watch it whenever I feel I need extra inspiration... To keep me motivated as I try and achive my dream of getting to Rio in 2016!!!!!!!
A near impossible thing to achive but I WILL give it my best and try as hard as I can!!!!!!!

Only on Saturday I set a new fastest time of 45.20... 18 seconds faster than my previous best time!!!!
And despite a difficult 11mph head and side wind and by coincidence at the same moment as my ride the highest tide of the month washing debris onto the seaside cycle path!!!!!!!
Slowly but surely my leg strength and stamina are building and improving!!!!!!

And i've not even got to VERY serious training yet when I will do gym work and 3 hours a day cycling!!!!!

Yesterdays programme really moved me as to how much good humans can do and what we can achive and as a nation of Great Britain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment number 44.

After writing about good sadly I need to write about the opposite of end of what humans do... With yet another news item that troubles my mind deeply... I find watching the news on tv/ hearing on the radio more difficult to stomach by the day... Yet another nutter with a gun goes on a killing mission and the result.... 27 dead people... most, very sadly, young children!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why do these people always seem to pick on the innocent... Never on already evil criminals???
I'm trying to ask why and how does this kind of thing seem to more common nowadays in this modern age???
And why again is it nearly always in America... That country that we are all told to believe is mean't to the greatest on earth!!!!!
Is this what too much freedom, capitalism and democracy breeds????
I agree we all want to be able to have opportunity in life but we need some control over our lives to a certain degree... We need laws not only to protect society to put protect ourselves!!!!!
Laws that promote good morals, honesty and decency in society instead of a dog eat dog materialistic!!!!!!!!
Even in this country having too much freedom is leading to people going completely crazy with credit cards/ bridging loans which damages their lives right upto young people drinking or drugging themselves to a premature death!!!!
Maybe too much democracy/ freedom is not good????
Thankfully the UK is one of the best countries in the world when it comes to gun related deaths - Only 8 last year!!!!

But America by far is the worst!!!!!
At an average of 12,000 deaths a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Yes 12,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the 911 outrage 2,983 people died.... Since 911 144,000 have died through gun related deaths.... That's equal to '48' 911's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
America doesn't need insane foreign terrorists to kill innocent Americans.... They are doing it to themselves..... All caused by totally lax gun laws!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gun ownership is 88%..... Yes 88% of people own a gun out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    PART 2 In a moment.....

So why does a son of a 'school teacher' go to a school and murder 20 innocent children and 7 school teachers???????

Well firstly WHY is a gun so easlily available to such an unbalanced individual????
WHY was a gun kept probably in a draw at his mother's house????
WHY is there a gun shop selling amunnition in nearly every town in America????
Because the U.S goverment do nothing about lax gun laws!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There will always be unbalanced people in society.... And occasional huge family rows..... But people need to be protect from being able to grab a gun that is such a lethal device!!!!!
Would people keep a pot of sodium cyanide (one of the most deadly chemicals in the world) in their kitchen draw with a shop down the road that sells top ups?????? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So why are guns, that are equally dangerous, kept in nearly every home in America???????

Secondly why does a 20 year old son of a school teacher do what he did??????

I also blame the internet and too much graphic violence in movies and on tv!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only recently I had my new neighbour banging on my door as I was using a small drill at 4.30 in the afternoon!!!!!
Yes I am making some noise renovating my house... But I am trying to be considerate by doing noise making jobs in the afternoon when they are at work.... Not that when the house he now rents was being done up did I complain once.... Despite regularly being woken up at 7.30am by 6 men banging and machines being used!!!!!!
And what did my neighbour say to me.... 'If I don't keep the noise down.. I will not have a house... He will burn it down!!!!!'
That shocked me.... Where did that come from so fast??????
    The reason UK tv!!!!!!
Full of crime and police dramas with so much graphic violence..... And people burning down homes.... Even in soaps that children are watching before the 9pm watershed!!!!!!!
This unhealthy continual barrage of too realistic dramas on tv slowly plants seeds in the back of peoples minds!!!!!!
So much so that in the heat of a moment what is in the back of their mind comes to the front!!!!!!!!
This mix of unhealthy tv and doom mongering media slowly are damaging society!!!!!!!!!
Mary Whitehouse did have some very valid points!!!!!

There are children up in their bedrooms being able to look at all kinds of porn and violence through the interent without their parents even knowing.... It is scary how damaging to society this is!!!!!
Again all through too much freedom and technology!!!!!!!

This coupled with America's appauling gun keeping society is what leads to many of the 144,000 deaths in 12 years and sadly the shocking events in Connecticut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you know Japan has the strictest gun laws in the world???????
Japan's government have protected it's people by stopping people having freedom to own a gun.... The result.... instead of 12,000 deaths a year..... Only 11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    NOT 11,000........... ELEVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Just... 11!

I like Obama but he has had 4 years to ban guns but he has not done anything near enough!!!!!
On this latest mass murder he says "we have endured too many tradegies like this".... And he adds "now is the time to take meaningful action!!!!"
And is as usual that all an American President will do????
    A few totally worthless words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NOW is the time to take these 20 innocent little children & 7 school teachers, who have been so coldly murdered, and BAN GUNS in America!!!!!!!!!!
Before the next mass murder takes place.... And it will keep on happening unless guns are banned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama, while America and the world is in shock, now is the time to get America together, start banging his fist, shout and force his way through congress and the senate to get them on his side, have a public debate and vote and GET GUNS BANNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama should do his job and look after the American people.... It is what he is paid to do..... It is what when he took Oath of Office he swore in to do!!!!!!
    So DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now is the moment to be a special president and get something VERY worthwile and special done for the American people.....
We need somebody strong and outstanding like Martin Luther King..... We need to do something STRONG and REAL instead of silly worthless words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obama has just started a 4 year term.... Now is the moment for him to make it his 4 year mission to use the example of these 20 children so that they do not die in vain and get GUNS BANNED NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Morning everyone

Bingo - at one of my networking groups in the summer, we had a talk from a woman who specialises in all things holisitic. The subjects of insomnia and stress came up in the Q&A session, and to cut a very long story short, the lady giving the talk told us all that her insomnia was pinned down (by her GP) to her obsession with the news just shortly after 9/11.

Since that day, she never watches news bullets nor buys newspapers and avoids news sites on the web. She is at peace with herself, has a calm life and no more sleep problems. She also told us that you can search for "good news sites" on the web if you ever need a lift (which I do, at times, when things get tough).

She was worried initially about not knowing what was going on in the world, but after a short period of adaption, she realised that the world didn't stop turning and that her quality of life was improving somewhat.

    Hi everyone:

This is first chance I have had to read the blog since the day Chris wrote it. I would never have believed I would miss my daily look at the blog, but I am just completely out of the way of it. We only have a week left until it may disappear again, so I will really make an effort.

Thank you so much to Penny, Maddy, Bids, Bingo, Cheryl and Jilly for the lovely birthday wishes. I had a great birthday this year - just so spoiled, but more than that, MrS wrote me a terrific wee (funny) poem in my birthday card, which really meant so much. And my lovely daughter told me that since she moved into the Love Nest she can really see everything I did for her, and how much she appreciates it! These are gifts beyond price!

Bingo: thank you for the link - I will try to listen to it this evening.

Jilly: you are being a very brave bunny regarding your Mum and Dad. All very difficult for you, I hope everything goes well for all of you. Cheryl is so right - the main thing is that there will be a lot of love. xx

Bingo: when I heard the news about the shooting in America, I was just so saddened. All those people (wee and not so wee) taken away so cruelly. But I knew nothing about it until Sunday because I did not see the news, and had not read a paper. I have to say that what Cheryl was saying makes an awful lot of sense. Yes, I do want to stay in touch with day-to-day happenings but my reading them/hearing them will change nothing. We are powerless as to how other people behave - I wish it could be different. However, Bingo, I do agree about the gun situation in America. MrS and I went to one of the States several years ago and - I swear - at one of the restaurants we went to, the advised "patrons" to leave their guns at reception. Needless to say, we went home and had a takeaway.

Hope this isn't too lengthy - I know I can go on a bit. Hope everyone is ok and looking forward to Christmas. Last Saturday, I hit the shops at just after 9am, and an hour and 15 mins later, I had bought everything I needed! I have never done this - not ever! Now for the wrapping!

Enjoy the rest of Tuesday, all!

    xx

    Hello Chrissie.

Well done on hitting the shops early which is what I'm going to have to do.

I've just done a very very very long online shop only to find at the end of it there are no more delivery slots available until 27th December. D'oh! Why didn't I look at the delivery slots first?

So I'm off to brave the local supermarket early on Friday morning. I've looked at the weather forecast and it's rain all day Thursday so Friday it will be (unless the Mayans got it right). It will probably be a similar experience in the supermarket.

Right! I'm hungry so off to the kitchen!
