Who Is The One?

Chris Evans | 10:40 UK time, Wednesday, 21 April 2010

The new One Show host remains a mystery. Christine being happy is obviously very important, and I'm sure she'll have a say in who her new co-host will be. Someone is going to get a great gig, good luck to them, exciting times.

Just arrived at Lords Cricket ground for this week's Sporting Challenge.

Jonny is bound to win (it's his favourite sport) but this is awesome. A beautiful day and Michael Vaughan thrown in for good measure.

Have a great one and remember - Who Is The One ?

    Hi CLP

Sorry to say I never watch the one show - I'm noit around at that time - but I'm sure its a great gig :-)

Andy - sorry to pounce on you - PAYE question I'm afraid

What are D0 and 0T tax codes and do I need to do anything fancy?

    Thanks

    Mornin' Chris.

Now then. Mind yourself playin' cricket. Don't follow in the footsteps a my aul War Hero Granddad whilst playin' down the YMCA wit 'is fags an' a box a Swan Vestas in 'is pocket.

Preparin' to take a good run-up an' nobble Billy Grimshaw, his arch-rival an' drinkin' pal, Granddad somewhat over-enthusiastically rubbed the ball on 'is trolleys when WHOOSH!! Up 'e goes like a sky-rocket wit 'is crutch on fire.

It had to be said that what really upset 'im was not the 3rd. degree burns to 'is weddin' tackle, nor the hilarity with which his dangerous and catastrophic predicament was received, but the fact that Grandma rushed out an' chucked 'is full pint over 'im to staunch the flames.

    Achtung my friends.

PS. Apologies if I've told that one before.. hohohohoho

Any road up. Deffo Austin Healey for the One Show.

Had star quality ever since bein' a cocky little Jack Russell wit the twinkle an' the little face yous never get sick a slappin', in the days of (both) our lost youth. Bless him.

Otherwise I'd climb right over 'im to get to Danny Baker meself. Oh if only...

Hi Chris, hope you both enjoy the cricket and may you both be winners. Hope they soon find someone for the one show. Nice day here again. Bingo, enjoying your blog as I have toured Scotland - it was lovely and we had good weather most of the time - lovely scenery too.

Greetings CLP Boy & Each Bloggie In This Area…

Bingo Star ere….. Coming to you from a fast train in Cumbria… although a waz when a wrote this yesterdee... terdee am noot in Cumbria... but pretend it waz yesterdee & am coming live from the line down the line....

CLP - The One Show.... a show that's close ter me 'eart.... even though a rarely watch it az am too busy working & doing bits of stuff!!!!!!
One things a will say about The One Show... wish a waz the new co'ost.... being a capricorn az iz Chrisitne Bleakly am sure ther ewould be a natural chemistry between uz... if astro stuff iz ter believed... or we might just 'ate each other!!!!!!!!
Either way... this could ave been me BIG break inter TV. me BIG break CLP & a ainb't talkin' snoooker... but az ave goot no proven talent..... and INDEED probably ave no talent anyway.... a am snoookered... loooks like it's back ter driving a truck up & down the M6!!!!!!!!!

Must admit... The One Show started out just az a little extra tv show & loook 'ow it's growing inter one of the beeb's main shows!!!!!
It could end up az their premier show soon with international movie star guests, especially when Jono Wossy's show ends!!!!!!!

Bingo Star’s BIG Rail Trip Dee 5 Update :

So last neet a travelled back from Wick & Thurso, sadly a didn’t get ter visit John O’ Gaunts yet again…. ‘old on…. ‘old on just getting a message in me ear…. Soz John O’ Groats noot John O’ Gaunts!!!!
Yeah a didn’t get ter John O’ Groats yer again az a only ‘ad 65 minutes in Wick… a did enquire but the taxi driver said it’s do-able butta bit tight… the last DAMN IT thing a need iz spending a neet stuck the furthest north a could be in Britain and probably with Ian Botham at the end or INDEED start of anooother of ‘iz charithee walks!!!!!

A arrived back in Inverness a ten past eight & WHATTA COINCIDENCE the eight minutes past eight ‘ighland Chieftain thatta started me BIG journey on on Saturdee ‘ad just arrived from London!!!!!
A felt almost like a moment of de-ja vu or like a ‘ad sort of gone around full circle!!!!!
Sitting next ter the Intercity125 express waz the 20.55 overneet sleeper train for London Euston!!!!
This one of the most famous trains that runs in the UK & one in all me years of travelling ave NEVER been on!!!!!
In fact a will let yer all inter a little secretation!!!!!
Originally a waz planning ter start me journey on the opposite sleeper on the Fridee neet.. The 21.16 departure from Euston… complete with the blogger who’s name am noot allowed ter mention!!!!
A wanted it ter be a nice surprise for ‘er ter wake up Saturdee morning in the ‘ighlands of bonnie Scotland!!!!
And ter also relaise me own ambition ter travel on this most charismatic world famous train service!!!!
But az it’s somewhat expensive & when a booked in January… a sensed me relationship waz in doubt/ danger of trouble…. So a played it safer & went for the cheaper but still most nice Saturdee dee departure from Kings Cross!!!!!
The plan waz ter then ‘ire a ‘ire car in Inverness & explore the scenic ‘ighlands from the freedom a ‘ired ‘ire car!!!!!!
    Anooother teem maybe!!!!!!

Terdee a checked out of me ‘otel & the ‘ighlands… but noot before a quick latte at Inverness station with fellow bloggie ‘ighland Lass & ‘er cute little 18 month old daughter!!!!!!!
Great ter meet ‘ighland Lass, just wish it ‘ad been for longer!!!!!!
Then it waz ter Glasgow with a quick change at Perth!!!!!
The journey waz the same route ter Perth… and sadly terdee’s train waz one of the boring modern sprinter trains!!!!!
Still a nice journey through the beautiful mountains of the Caingorms & a snow storm near Kingussie… but ter me there’s no passion in these plastic modern trains!!!!!
The journey waz far more enjoyable in the Intercity125 express from London on Saturdee!!!!
Ter me it iz important ter travel in a nice train az it makes the journey feel far better than just like being a passenger on s bus service!!!!!

Finally a arrived at Glasgow ter be met by Chrissie S & Mary!!!!!!
Onward for a chin wag & a wee few bonnie drinks… later joined by Gail & Gail’s ’ubby David for a few more drinks!!!!!
A great teem ‘ad by all & so nice ter meet all a met in Glasgow!!!!!!!
Glasgow iz such a wonderful city from the bit a saw!!!!! Reminds me slightly of Liverpool when yer right in the central area… lots of Georgian stone buildings!!!!!!
Shame ave never stayed in Glasgow & seen the city properly…. Must put this on me ter do list!!!!!!
A mean it’s near ter get ter than Inverness so no excuses really!!!!!!
The teem went so fast… four ‘ours in Glasgow but before a knew it we were saying our goodbyes & it waz teem ter do a dive onter me next train… the Virgin Pendelino London Euston express!!!!!!

The journey from Glasgow down ter Lancaster iz another spectacular bit of railway… skirting the mountains near Beattock… a place where a often used ter spend the neet in me tanker when a used ter regular truck upter Scotland!!!!
Then climbing up Shap summit & through Cumbria with views of the mountains of The Lake Distirct… with a beautiful western setting sun over the Irish Sea!!!!!!!!
Although a ‘ad booked the tickets ter London Euston… ave decided ter take the train only ter Wigan!!!!!!
Then do a dive ‘ome ter Liverpool!!!!!!!!!

A can say the great thing about all the trains a travelled on… every single one waz bang on teem everywhere!!!!!
A tell yer, there’s a lot wrong with Britain nowadays but the railways really do run like clockwork nowadess - EXCELLENT SERVICE if yer ask me!!!!!!
One reason a think why a wish a could getta job on the railway & be part of this success story!!!!!

    Bye!

  • Comment number 8.

PS ALL - David Tennant would be a popular choice az 'e iz popular at present & just ended The Who gig... nowt ter do with Roger Daltery!!!!!

    Morning,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CRUMPY xxx I hope you have a lovely day xxx

Good luck with the cricket Chris, make sure you are well padded. I used to have to watch Kent at Canterbury as a young girl, that's what comes of having an older brother, can't say it was the most exciting game but at least I understand the rules.

Talking of the older brother, rumour has it that they are on their way home from Morocco, hopefully on a plane as we speak! Thank goodness the skies are now open, although I've yet to see a plane or a vapour trail and I've been looking.

Alone again in the office today :(

    Morning all

Good luck with the sporting challenge today, Christoff, not sure about cricket though, it must be the most boring game on this planet, but what do I know? At least you have got a beautiful day for it.

As for the new One Show presenter (methinks a bit OTT this morning on that subject) does it HAVE to be a sports presenter? In fact I’m with Deevs, Rob Brydon would be perfect, although not really bothered ‘cos I will only be watching on a Friday, and then it clashes with Corrie! Is it to be believed that Christine might also be jumping ship?
Oh dear, a bit negative this morning, but that’s how I feel today. Note to self, must snap out of it.

Happy Birthday Crumpy, have a good one xx

    Pen xx

  • Comment number 21.

Hi Chris: difficult choice to find the right guy for the One Show. I loved Adrian Chiles - his wee grumpy face appeals to me! I don't really mind who gets the job - my main interest will be in the Friday edition!

Hope you and Jonny are having a great time today.

To the lovely, lovely Crumpy: Happy Birthday! Hope you have great day. xx

Thanks to everyone who wished us a good time yesterday. We had such a laugh together - it was just a really terrific few hours. Yes, ok, we did have quite a lot of wine, but with all that chatting, you can find yourself needing something cool to drink!

mtd: I did see your wee message, but sorry, I only saw it this morning! Perhaps Bingo will be able to help! Hope you are ok - one of my bosses is stranded in Thailand - due back this evening, but will have to stay for almost another week!

    Afternoon!

No comment on the One Show as not watched!

Seza - you can have Kirsty to help with your house hunt but please, pretty please can I have Phil??!! Also, 6 pairs of shoes and not one pair for yourself - humph!!

Rosie - good luck with the house signing and move.

Beez - not practical to move in with him at the mo as he is living in a shared house - not my idea of fun! Theatre was good! Look forward to the pics when the packages arrive :)

MTF - like gardening but not very good at it! Have to consult my mum on most things to do with it but I do enjoy it! Hope you have many a happy hour pottering and planting in your garden this year.

Nearly lunchtime and the sun is shining - shall I indulge in some shoe buying??!!

These vapour trails are wreaking havoc with my sunbathing!!

Having a quick break from the backbreaking digging.

Its not till you sit and listen, that you realise just how much is going on around you.

We live well away from any roads, so dont hear any cars, but..

There is the half hourly steam train chuffing and puffing along (LOL)

The obviously busy air traffic coming over us from Cardiff, also the Bristol channel is one of the main flight paths into Heathrow too.

Then there are the birds, which I dont mind at all.

And today, I have finally heard the first cuckoo. Still waiting to see the Swifts though.

One more hours digging, then off to work.

    Cheeerio.

    Big Chief CLP: Sitting.
HB: No, where the ‘eck are you?
CLP: I’m about to leave for the White House, my little executive prod, what’s up – is the President on the line?
HB: No, no, he’s ok – listen I’ve something to ask you – its just, well, it just a wee bit delicate . .
CLP: Come’on my little Hull-based angel, you can tell me anything . .
HB: Well, you know the way you’re quite close to the President and you’d talk to him on a daily basis almost?
    CLP: Uh-huh . .
HB: Well, its just that I never get to talk to him at all and I really really, well no, its .. .. I think I have a crush on him!
CLP: Blinkin’ Nora, Hel, what do you want me to do about it? Get a grip – we’re in the middle of a DJ crisis here
HB: I was just wondering if you could bring back something that belongs to him . . .not steal anything, a used hankerchief or something
CLP:: That’s just weird, Helen – give me a break, please!!!
    HB: Sorry, I know, its just, he’s dreamy . . .
CLP: Yeah and you want to check out his nose garbage . . . yeah, that’s going to work for you!! Weirdo!!!

I think Robert LLewellyn would make a great co-host. He's done loads of presenting. He's done loads of interviewing and he acts too. He seems an interesting person and he also seems interested in others. I think he would be a good choice. Also, he seems quite 'normal' which would be a refreshing choice from some kind of smoothie...

  • Comment number 30.

How about me for the One Show - I'm a little odd-looking, have a Black Country accent and own a number of slightly-too-small M&S jumpers. No-one will even notice AC's gone, at least until Christine edges so far over towards the other side of the sofa, she falls off the end - never been a hit with the ladies,me

How many times did Chris Evans say "The One Show" on his programme this morning?

  • Comment number 38.

Deev - listen to me when I am with JT and beesmum - it comes on and I can't shift it!

Moonwalk training steady, I know I can walk at least 10 miles without thinking - have the correct clothes and am building on stamina (walking up 6 flights of stairs to work) and fitness (regular gym workout and body conditioning).

I need songs to listen to while walking as will be on my own for about 6-8 hours - all suggestions greatfully recieved.

Deev - you still volunteering? will expect an extra loud cheer when I see you!

  • Comment number 39.

Afternoon all. Still lovely and sunny but that wind is biting cold. Should definitely have left your scarf on MonkeyS.

UC - great idea - in fact black country accents unite - Baggy, mine is coming back with a vengeance with the company I keep and you don't have a brummie accent !!! I do quite like the idea of Rob Brydon though or Bingos idea of a DJ a day. Or what about a blogger a day?

AS - thought my shoes were on next day delivery - wrong ! Will do pic when they arrive though. Agree - shared house - not a good idea.

Chrissie - just how many "cool drinks" did you get though :)

    Beez xx

  • Comment number 40.

Patricia - more than ONE! x

Baggy - had to pull out of the volunteering due to the new circumstances in my life. Getting into London isn't as clear-cut as it was, there's the no job situ at the mo so didn't want to go down the hotel route and weekends are more about my new family (and a certain 7 year old) now.

Please, please don't think I'm nagging but please make sure you do a 20 mile training walk before the event. 10 miles isn't even half way of what you are undertaking, and bearing in mind you're doing it at night when your body usually rests and recouperates, it's one heck of a challenge.

As for songs - I posted on here when you first asked: The Ramones - Blitzkreig Bop.

You will be power walking around London stomping to the Hey Ho Let's Go bits - I guarantee!

I used to save up the Russell Brand podcasts and listen whilst doing my training walks - gawd knows what the cars thought, seeing this woman power walking in near hysterics!

And one final piece of advice: on the night, be sure to take in the view. As you know, I am no stranger to London but to walk across Tower Bridge, see the Tower of London, Victoria Embankment, the South Bank in the early hours of the morning is quite simply breathtaking.

And I will sponsor you when you have crossed the finish line, job or no job. And that's a promise.

    Good luck!

Thinking clearly again now thank you.

Usually politely say "no thank you" and put phone down on cold callers. However, one day last week I found myself listening to such a charming, Irishman who must have kissed the blarney stone and (sounded like our very own TW) and, lo and behold I said "yes"

    Greetings from the Shanghai correspondent....

IMHO I agree with the hampster for the one show but haven't they already said that that Chris bloke from Breakfast TV will be doing Monday to Thursday???

Interesting thought Deev - work with it....

I have heard tonight that you can get UG booties for 12 squid here... Will investigate further tomorrow.

btw what was wrong with wot Suzie said yesterday???

Bingo - I am so glad that you got to meet HLS, hopefully when I am next in the area I will be able to do the same. I am glad that you had a good time with the glaswegian contingent as well - they are all lovely people as I am sure that you knew already.

We did the Bullet train in Shanghai today - it goes up to 430kph..... which is wierd on the ground (or near to it anyway...)

Still plenty to do on this unexpected holiday - but I think that most people are now resigned to the fact that we ain't going anywhere fast....

Unbelievably it is now past midnight here... I so miss being with you all in real time.

Anyway I'll check in again tomorrow (or later today for you night owls...)

Nic is out at the mo seeing a chap from an agency about work, and a few irons in the fire.

I feel completely and utterly done in, exhausted and useless. I give my all at interviews, the post-interview vibe is a good one, the feedback from the agencies is always, without fail, glowing. But there's always a " ...but ..." which is when they say (delete as appropriate) one candidate slightly better matched their spec / internal candidate / blah blah blah.

I am just so fed up. I may as well just go sign on and consign myself to daytime tv and prozac.

What have I got to do to get a job!!??!

  • Comment number 63.

Pen - don't very often listen to SW - don't like all the 'love your show' comments! Feel as if that is the only way to get a mention!

MTD - sounds as if you are enjoying the unexpected holiday! Will you be able to travel home any earlier now the skies are open again?

Marjie - well done on remembering to cancel everything in time!

Deevs - sorry to hear that ((( ))) think thats the recongnised sign for a hug, onwards and upwards something better is round the corner - The One Show is waiting for us to pounce!

Deevs - afore I return to the world of trying to get two bits of software designed not to work together to work together, just remember that a) you are in a much better place personally than have ever been, b) something will come along, probably when you least expect it - as it will for Nic too and c) there's not enough Prozac in the world to get you through a day of Jeremy Kyle, Loose Women and 60 Minute Makeover. Try cider instead.

Have a good evening one and all - off to retreat back into my shell comtemplating when I'll next be able to escape....

  • Comment number 65.

Hi AS - doesn't look as if we will get an earlier flight. There was a flight today which had some VAV's that were delayed from 15th April...

Still as you say we are making the most of the unplanned extra holiday and meeting a few more interesting people along the way...

Time for me to hit the sack - nite nite all.

Thanks for that UC - there is a can of something Scrumpy in the fridge actually.

I just don't think I can face any more interviews. Really. Honestly. Just can't do this anymore.

Nic's due home in about 20 minutes or so. Tea is on the go (amazed I didn't slice any more chunks out of my fingers as I couldn't see a thing whilst wielding the knife over the chopping board). I've fixed my make-up twice now but just keep crying it off - nice one.

Just wanted to say don't despair, Cheryl.

It's NOT you, it's the way life is at the minute. And it certainly isn't lack of effort; everybody has to have an element of luck in this situation, and as I said to you before, it's simply the right position hasn't found YOU yet.

That's not to say stop trying. It's all experience; although I absolutely understand you must have an awful feeling of rejection. But don't take it personally; it isn't personal, not at all. If you start to believe you're not good enough or liked enough, then that's what you'll give out and your spirit will suffer.

So allow yourself to feel down and fed up...for now. And then pick yourself up, dust yourself down.. and prepare yourself to be all shiny and new for the job that's good enough for YOU. It will come along, you'll see. And you'll appreciate it all the more when it does.

    Thanks Clodagh (and everyone) .... just when I'd managed to stop crying n'all ...... x x x

  • Comment number 71.

Evening troops, hope you're all ok. Wonder how the cricket sporting challenge went? The gymanstics video from last week was the funniest so far I think!

Cheryl so sorry to hear your news, will keep on crossing everything that the right job comes along soon. Listen to Clodagh, she talks a lot of sense x

Happy Birthday Crumpy, sounds like you have been spoilt today! Hope you enjoyed your risotto and that the prosecco is going down a treat!

Glad you enjoyed your trip round Bonnie Scotland Bingo and yes you're right, there are a lot of similarities between Glasgow and Liverpool (speaking as a Scouser who spent 5 years in the Weeg!)

If you're still awake mtd glad to hear you're making the best of your extended trip. I know of people stuck in Australia, NYC and Florida, the last lot can't get a fight until the 1st May!

Had an extra day off from work today and spent it the wedding of a girl who used to work with us. She's from Hong Kong and so quite far from home, so I'm glad a few of us made the effort to join her on her special day.

Hope everyone else has had a good day

    Hello everyone.

Well its been a gorgeous sunny day here, but quite cold in the breeze.

Spotted some vapour trails this morning and was hoping that the stranded people are starting to get home , we only live 15 miles from Mcr airport , but it still seems very quiet and have not heard anything taking off.

Deevs, sorry to hear this job hunting is getting you down. I sincerely hope you are lucky soon, and you find something that suits you. I agree with Clodagh, have a good old cry get it out of your system and then move on up a gear. I know its easier said than done, but we are all routing for you.

Every time i hear the theme tune to the one show, i think of the Royle family show at Christmas .

    MC xx

  • Comment number 73.

    Deevs..

Clodagh's right. Allow yourself to feel down at the moment and cry asmuch as you want to.

Then after a while you will be rearing to go again and show them just what you're made of.

It seems to me that when we want something so badly we have to be brought right down before we finally get it.

I find that sad music helps me to wallow in misery and almost enjoy it.

    Hi everyone.

Deevs, I hope you can keep believing in yourself, look how many others do.xx

I wont play down, how tough rejection is, I know and can only say to you, keep on going, with your head held high.

Its been very warm here today and I am now sporting the usual pink scalp!

Still, garden now taking shape and things are sprouting too.

I popped along, to see the Mother to be on her nest today. Father was having a swim nearby. I nearly trod in one of his "messages" that he has left in plentiful supply, boy do they poop. LOL!

Now theres something I could bring back to spread amongst the roses.

I bet the local horticultural society haven't come across that one.

Oh, if anyone hasn't a clue what I am prattling on about, its Swans.

Couple more pics going on fb soon.

The biggest thrill of the day was seeing an animal that I didn't know existed on the Levels.

I had my camera ready but wasn't close enough to get a good shot.

No-one is going to believe me until I provide the evidence.

Now I know roughly where it is, I shall do my best to get closer next time.

MC, I've still got my Easter egg mountain and its growing!!!

What to have for dinner this time of night???

MC, My brother and his family landed at Manchester Airport this evening! Thank goodness they are home safe and sound, my mother was beside herself!

Can I put the ranty pants on for a mo?

I've just got back from a church AGM closely followed by a church meeting. Now my church has over 50 members, guess how many turned up tonight???? 13!!!! What is it with everyone, I bet now that any decisions that have been made will be moaned at by those that weren't there - well come to the meeting, then you can have your say but don't moan if you can't be a***d to turn up!!! Either you care about the church and what we do and what goes on or you don't.

    Ranty pants off now.

MTF, There is a pair of swans on the river near me, but I haven't spotted their nest yet. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

  • Comment number 81.

Well said Ali. Same goes for folk who don't vote etc - even if your person doesn't get in you have put your opinion there. I've missed a stack of bolt hole village meetings but bless em, they keep me advised by email - that may be an alternative. Distance is my problem - not apathy.

MTF - just be carefull - those swans can move.... and fly don't forget!!!
