Oh what a swell party that was...

Chris Evans | 13:53 UK time, Thursday, 24 December 2009

So we ordered up what we thought were the right ingredients, and threw them together hoping they would stick, and for the most part I'm pretty sure they did..

A big thank you to all the team who were completely pooped by the end of the proceedings, as we were basically making it up on the hoof as we went along. Not the most efficient way of producing a show but often the most fun.

What followed was about thirty of us trying to play catch up as far as having a party was concerned - never advisable, as one tend to starts at a sprint, when that should be saved for later.

Suffice to say we all ran out of legs around 2ish this morning, tho' it wasn't for the want of endeavour. . .

And let's hear it for Rips who single handedly brought the show to a halt - his words not mine. Never mind Rips we've all done it but just not as recently as you - ha ha ha ha ha. HA HA HA. X.

Bingo looked the business but is now certifiably crackers, and all the girls looked beautiful espesh Clodagh who just gets better and better. . .

You were and are all brill.

See u on the radio.

Have I drunk to much of the Margaret River plonk or is Mr. Evans Moonlighting ?

CLP and the team - thank you so much for a great show last night, we loved it out here in blogland!

Is it my imagination, or can I 'hear' the tiredness in your blog, no surprise if I can, but be assured we LOVED every minute.

If we're doing ARF requests... Don't Stop Me Now - the bloggers anthem and now CLP's for the breakfast show, or as was suggested earlier, CLP gets to choose.

    Off to finish wrapping presents...

Great to finally meet you last night - sorry the drink debt wasn't repaid.

Last night has inspired me to get involved with blog meets in the future and to treasure these virtual-turned-real friendships that I am so lucky to have made through this place.

So, the open invitation remains, when you can make it here next here, I will be delighted to share a drop or two of the black stuff with you.

    Chris,

Just got back home after O2 party last night and have been trying to catch up on the blog. It was a surreal, superb, fantastic, exciting day, all in all. Really nervous about meeting so many bloggers who I hadn't met before but what a great bunch they were and are.
Got off the train and sasw a man in a red Elvis suit, carrying a guitar...that HAS to be Bingo...lol...and btw Bingo, loved the guitar in your guitar case...small things as they say!
The 2 hours went so quickly but I am currently listening to the show again as I recorded it. Great to see and now hear Clodagh, Rips, Deevs and Bingo being interviewed by Chris.
Thanks again Chris, Clodagh (you know why) and all bloggers I met yesterday. Would have liked to talked to all of you but not enough time and anyway I was just too excited! lol...also I don't think I have had so many hugs in 1 day. Also nice to have a brief conversation with Stephanie...not at all how I imagined...but in a good way!
Right off to try and calm down now..

I am sooooooo glad I got in. I loved the surreal experience of meeting people who I knew already for the first time (many of you were saying the same thing). Loved the twist on my name badge Clodagh, thank you for all your help getting us all in.

Merry Christmas to everybody in blog land. I will try to remember to send friend requests to the ones I am missing on FB.

Evening all. Just a quick drop-in as not long home!

I'd like to say thank you to all the bloggers who were there last night and made time to talk to me. As said already, I felt I knew you so well before I met you. I would especially like to thank, in no particular order:

Alright Flower - for safely navigating us over the highest motorway in England (thanks Motorway Man) in what had to be the worst conditions ever known. All we needed was hail and we'd have seen it all!

Manchester Calling - for letting a 'little one' squeeze in the back! What a road trip. We must do it again sometime! Pip, Pip!!

Clodagh - you are an angel, but far more beautiful both inside and out.

Foxy - what a lovely, lovely lady. No airs or graces and happy to give of her time. It was a pleasure to chat to you.

Bingo - he's a Starr (what more can you say). Thank you for being you.

Margot and Obamarama - for sharing the anxiety with me. You know what I mean!

Jonny - for throwing those great shapes. What a guy!

Beez/Crumpy/Debs/Scoobs - for being you. Never, ever change - I love you just as you are!

Rips - for hitting the shops on our behalf. I've got a grocery shop to do next week if you're free....!!!

Suzy - for the eskimo kiss ;-) !!!

Bids/MTF - you were everything I knew you would be and more. Absolutely wonderful ladies. I hope you managed to cross roads okay with your hood up MTF!!

But, most importantly, Chris - you are an absolute top bloke. When I talked to you I felt like I had your whole attention. Thank you for agreeing to pose with the bloggers at the end. My Mam was right - if you don't ask you don't get. I hope you and yours have a fabulous Christmas. Thank you for our early Christmas present. It was worth every minute of the journey.

Lots and lots of snowy, motorway fatigued, cold, damp but very, very happy PiPx

    Afternoon all,

Sounds like everyone had a fab time yesterday at the O2, would love to have been there, it sounded great.

Well Mum arrived safely yesterday from Liverpool, we've spent today doing some last minute shopping in the snow in Edinburgh. Trouble is I've had to give the game away about one of her presents under the tree! She mentioned yesterday how she really wanted the "Complete book of Janer and John stories" as read on Tel's show and how she really must have a look for it. "Oh yes" I said, knowing full well ther was a copy of it sitting under the tree not 3 feet from her. So we're wandering about, and go past a branch of Waterstones, and so she says right I'll just pop in and have a look for the Janet and John book.... so of course I had to tell her that she didn't need too! Ho hum...

Hope everyone who is travelling has got to where they want to be in one piece.

Merry Christmas to al the bloggers out there, and to the main man CLP himself xxx

    Afternoon peeps
I too am still a bit overwhelmed by how fantastic last night was.

Had a fab time and lovely to meet the blogpeeps I hadn't already chatted to in the flesh.

My special thanks to Hazel Love with whom I shared a room - sorry if you didn't get much sleep!
Travelled home part of the way with misstoedipper - well as far as Milton Keynes.

Safe journey is wished to Mary and Chrissie who won't get home until about 9pm and who it has to be said are the ultimate party girls - didn't get to be until 4am!!!!!! which is why they were still in their pyjamas as Hazel and I headed off to the station this morning.

Chris, you and the team did a fantastic job and all I can say is roll on January ...

Have a fab Christmas everyone and to steal a phrase from Matt

Christoff what can I say; what a lovely compliment, I am truly blown away.

What I really wanted to say but became overwhelmed as usual and didn't want to hog air time, was THANKYOU SO MUCH for including us all, we are all so grateful for such a fantastic treat; you are exactly what we all already know, a gorgeously lovely man, and we consider ourselves truly privileged.

Also thanks to the team, in particular Scouse Sarah, what a little star she is, and to Steph, it was excellent to meet her as well another Top Bird, she's a babe. Hopefully we'll be hearing her with Mr. Mayo when Foxy goes off to incubate that far too-respectable and attractive bump.

As to the rest of you lovely bloggers; it was a rare treat indeed to meet you all. It's set me up for the New Year to have yous all as me new buddies, the warmest, kindest people I've ever had the good fortune to come across.

But please, all the thanks, whilst lovely and affirming, should not go to me, but to Christoff, and of course, the team, for such a warm welcome.

    What a fantastic experience.

    Thankyou Chris.

I really enjoyed drive time here in Canada as my morning cheer-up when I got to work. I doubt I'll catch the morning show as it'll be on 12-2am my time, or if I do I'll probably be rather drunk.

Greetings Of The Season Ter CLP, ALL Of The Drivetime Mega Team & ALL Blog Peoples.....

    Bingo Star ere......

    Well where do a start??@?????@?
So much ter say about the incredible, brilliant neet last neet at the O2 Gig!!!!!!
This blog could go one forever az there's so much ter say... but'll ave ter keep it short az me mind lets me!!!!!

Firstly the most important bit : Wanted ter say ter CLP & ALL of the Drivetime Team BIG THANKS from me for making last neet such a brilliant time & being so nice to me.... and especially CLP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@!!@!!!!!@!
A don't wanter start going off on negatives ere but ave 'ad some fairly cr*p crimbos workwise... no staff do's or truck drivers banned from the do!!!! 'onestly true about the do!!!!
But last neet 'as in one single swoooop made up for all those missed years of crimbo partying - ave never 'ad such a brilliant time - thank you for inviting me CLP & the R2 gang!!!!!!!!!!

PS CLP - OMG Just seen the photer of yer interviewing me on yer 'ome page.... A don't loook anything like Elvis... More like that cartoon computer game character with the red suit & BIG black 'air... can't remember the name.... sure one of the bloggers will now which one a mean!!!!!!
Plus the way am standing... a loook like am about ter launch vertical with me cape.... bit like superman... but less of the super!!!!!! Should ave come with a rocket strapped ter me back!!!!!
Mind you wouldn't get past The Dome security if a 'ad a live rocket strapped ter me back!!!!

PPS CLP - Az for saying that am certifiably crackers..... a take it yer mean Christmas & noooot Jacobs?????

So after last neet, this year ave know, sorry now, done the treble: never been ter Wembley Staduim, The Albert 'all & INDEED The Millennium Dome aka The O2 Arena.... a now, sorry know, sheltered life ave led but this year ave done all three.... and a lot of it thanks ter R2 & me being lucky enough ter get C.I.N tickets for the Albert Gig!!!!!!

A did say a waz gonna be coming in festive red attire, just a bet non expected a red Elvis looookin' more like Don King on acid!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!
A did feel abit MAD dressed like that but if a made a few laugh/ entertained a few.... that's good enough for me!!!!!
Actually ter make people 'appy & entertainin people a love it!!!!!!
A waz walkin' around the dome & 'ad a few people askin could they take a photer of me with their kids!!!!!
Of which a waz more than 'appy ter oblige!!!!!
Plus a past Santa, 'e said ter me az we shook 'ands "Merry Christmas Elvis!!!" A replied "Wrock 'n roll Santa... wrock... AND roll!!!!!!" A tell yer a waz left 'All Shook Up' after shaking 'ands with Santa!!!!!

Must admit though... a couldn't see a lot behind me dark Elvis shades.... and the whole evening & in particular the actual gig went so fast.... a didn't get proper time ter take it all in!!!!
Sometimes wish a could rewind the evening & do it all again in slow motion!!!!!!!
CLP, Jono S, Sally Boazy, Foxy, 'ells bells & Scouse Sarah were all so friendly & nice even when under pressure working & doing the serious stuff!!!!! Nice ter see them & all of the beeb team do a show live aka at work & observe what pros they all are & 'ow easy they make it loook!!!!!!
Also great ter meet Nigel Bardon & The Procliamers too!!!!
A just wanter 'proclaim' a really admire The Proclaimers, only two blokes, no bass, no percussion yet they make such great music & VERY rhythmical tunes!!!!! Brilliant ter see them live!!!!!!
And Scouting For Girls, brilliant ter see them live too!!!!! Slightly louder with a few keyboards thrown in... and yer can tell their still riding their newly found wave of success!!!! Beaming they were!!!!
But for me the 'ighlight of the neet..... The Stereophonics!!!!!!!!!
Just wish a could ave met The Sterephonics az a am a really BIG fan of theirs!!!!!!
And WHATTA MEGA COINCIDENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The very two songs a mentioned on the blog the other dee.... 'Innocent' & 'Dakota' az being me favourites.... they went & did them!!!!!!
Probably a BIG coincidence but who knows maybe, ok unlikely, but maybe they read the blog & thought if those twos tunes are good enough for CLP's bloggers.... they're the two we'll do!!!!!!!!!!
Either way it made my dee.... BIG style!!!!! and Dakota they did an acoustic version - BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!
If am 'onest a waz surprised they didn't do their Christmas tune!!!!!
A find it a shame that 'Innocent' isn't being played enough on the radio ter be 'onest!!!!! It's a shame az there's so many tunes from so many artists coming it, there's just noot enough airtime ter play every tune & a think this iz why great tunes get lost in the system.... 'Innocent' just one example!!!!!!!!
Still at least the phonic dudes goot onter the Jools 'olland & were able ter do the gig last neet & show off their great new tune!!!!!!!
A 'ope CLP bangs this tune out more in 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It waz great ter meet so many other bloggers last neet & so many people!!!!!
Even started chatting ter a bloke from Wallasey near ter where a live.... and FREAK OUT!!!!!
E even went ter the same school az me!!!!!!!!!! Small world!!!!
Shame the neet went so fast & a don't getta chance ter meet everyone properly!!!!! Really would ave liked ter chat more ter people.... and see who a waz chattin' too!!!!! LOL!!!!! Couldn't due ter me Elvis shades!!!!!
Even CLP iz under pressure & buzy but it waz so great ter meet 'im again & 'ave a little chat & a few photers!!!!!
Great ter ave me piccie taken with Foxy too!!!!!

A suppose though a can't blog terdee without mentioning me on air BBC radio deBUT!!!!!!!!
BIG THANKS CLP for letting me on yer show & really enjoyed it!!!!!
The only bad thing..... a would ave done twenty minutes of on-air Bingo chat ter CLP... no problem!!!!!
In fact.... a 'ad alotta jokes & IMPORTANT crimbo advice for the listeners out there.... shame a could share it with all!!!!!!
But the good news iz.... later..... a will on this blog!!!!!
A sort of 'Bingo Star Christmas Message'.... bit like the Queen but more mad & with added advice & 'umour!!!!!!

The only downside ter me aving a taste of doing abitta on air stuff.... a wanter do more!!!!!!
A don't now, sorry know, if ave goot any talent, a feel a ave but ave noot proved it yet! So at the moment a might just be a delusional NUTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes a... NUTTER all!!!!!!!!
Butta do feel like a belong az an entertainer.... whereas a don't feel like a belong az a trucker... just the way it iz all, just the way it iz!!!!!!
All a do now, sorry know, iz a feel an intense energy ter do it & get on stage and make people 'appy.... this in turn making me 'appy ter make people 'appy!!!!! That makes me 'appy am 'appy ter say!!!!!
2010 iz the year ave gotta do something with this energy..... stop the talkin' & do abitta the walkin'!!!!!!
A think the best thing.... keep plodding on with me book.... but the BIG thing start getting me song lyrics ave written & me guitar riffs blended inter something pleasing ter the ears!!!!!!!!!
Any way talkin' about mesen ere again so i'll shut up know, sorry now!!!!!!

Finally a just wanter say ter all..... 'AVE A PROSPEROUS CHRISTMAS AND A MERRY NEW YEAR 10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

Back termozza or later with me crimbo message!!!!!!

Bingo. you are indeed a TRUE STAR!!! Don't go changing, kidder, laaaa!

So, when I got back to Stixville this arvo, it was time to play Santa Claus to God Children, nieces and nephew. Love then all to bits and after visiting 2 households with a combination of 5 kids, I am exhausted!

Nice end to the visiting was my beautiful 3 year old niece snuggling up to me for a cuddle, and falling asleep while sucking her thumb and her auntie stroking her wispy blond hair.

Dinner nearly ready - time to refill that glass of red!

They'll catch up with you eventually, but in the meantime we'll enjoy your madness.

Annie G. Happy Christmas, best blog bud. Glad you got to speak to Chris last night.

I caught him briefly to say hello and he made my Christmas Eve by sending me a Tweet.

I'd love to say what I really think of this place, but the Blog Police would remove it in a second.

But you know what I mean.

    Evening all,

Just arrived home after playing Santa at a kids party this afternoon! Listened to most of the last drive time show whilst on the car! ;-) Great job Drive Time Team! The drive home will not be the same in the New Year. :-(

I am pleased to be reading that all of the party bloggers seem to have survived the bash! I would be lying if I did not say that I am a just a little jealous of you all. Still I would have struggled to get to London yesterday and my attendance on the blog did not deserve an invitation so no complaints. Listening to the show from my own armchair was a treat as it is rare that I am at home in time for the show.

Off out down the pub tonight for a couple of pints of the finest ale my money can buy!

Merry Christmas one and all! X-x-x I hope you have all been good and that Santa delivers you exactly what it is you asked for! X-x-x

    Keep smiling

    Cheers Chris,

You know how much I appreciated your comment last night and the one above is both above and beyond.....which once again sums you up, thank you!
By the way - as anyone who saw you performing last night will testify.
There was no way that a bumbling incompetent who doesn't understand the question (like me) could bring a show that you are in control of to a halt.......does nothing phase you? - you were born to do this job and I loved watching you do it last night!

Oh and my Son thinks that we are now best mates after hearing us on the radio.....cheers for that too, you can't buy that sort of cred,

Echo all of the comments about your team - Scouse Sarah is gorgeous in every way and Hells Bells is terrifying in the best possible way.
Also - is Johnny the world's most polite man?
    As for Foxy....Grrrrrr!

Clodagh - Thanks for organising it all so well, have a great Christmas x

Thunder - You didn't bore anyone with your photo's it was great to meet you.

Bingo - Can I add to the general praise for you mate - hope 2010 is a top year for you.

    Pip - Not a hope x

Chrissie and Mary - good on you for making the effort, it was great to see you both again x

Errol - I don't know how you managed to get such brilliant pics - but great job

Matt - nice to meet you, hopefully get to chat more next time

Gingembre - would love to get out for a proper beer with you sometime, hope it went well this morning

Hazel - without sounding patronising....well done, I know yesterday was a tough day for you, but am glad you made the effort.....you do run Bingo a close second on the 'nuts' stakes though x

Superbeep - nice to finally meet the other half, hope he gave you a birthday treat! However wrong that sounds

    Dissing - where'd you go?

Everyone else - thanks for being such fantastic company x

Oh and Debs - remind me not to cross you.......blimey!!!!!! xxx

Well, end of an era....start of another.....bring it on!

Thank you for all coughing up last night.

There was £306 and some pence including what I used last night for beer on the train home and food.

Therefore I will be making a donation of £60 to Children in Need on our behalf.

Without wishing to get all 'I love you, you're my besht mate...', can I say that I loved meeting every single one of you last night.

I'm not generally good at those kind of things, as you may have guessed, and I had a few traumas before actually arriving, but once there, although it was bizarre, I kind of felt OK.

I'm sorry I had to skip off before the meal, but I had a wonderful time and can't wait to do it again.

Matt, I was a bit overwhelmed when we got there too! I've been to a few blog meets now, but never with that number of people, half of whom I'd never met. Which is why I stood next to Gingembre for ages before speaking to him! I hope he didn't think I was rude... But everyone's so lovely, you can't help but chat away (although I usually need a couple of drinks first hehe).

Been there, done that Annie. I don't really have time on Christmas morning before we go to my brother's house, and I don't like to be rushed, so I open gifts from my friends on Christmas Eve and then get the family ones on Christmas Day.

So far I've been given some beautiful jewellery and toiletries, a PostSecret book and some craft stuff, a gorgeous mini hot water bottle and a fabulous CD :-)

Hope other people like my gifts as much as I like theirs.

It was a most wonderful evening wasn't it .I'm still a little bit fazed by it all.

Thank you Chris for everything and what a great team you have at your side ,and a big Thank you to them also .

At the beginning of this year I had set myself some goals to achieve and I seemed to have done them all in one night .

    So once again ,Thank You.

    Yours sincerely Bridget ,aka Bids.xxx.

  • Comment number 99.

Well CLP, I hope you realise how much stress you put on us all to attend your bye bye drivetime show ??

I legged it out of the door covered in marmalade, which was simmering on the stove, that was only one of six culinary delights that were due to be ready for tomorrow, some as gifts.

I got up at 5.00am determined to be ready to be organised to do stage one of my journey, from here, to Bids..

After taking a detour from West Somerset to Portsmouth via Basingstoke, ok, ok, I know !!! I finally reached Bids after a 357 mile drive, including my work miles.

I dont think I can top anything that anyone has already put on here.

There were obviously people that I was looking forward to meeting as we all have people that we 'click with'

But I think on the whole, we all had something in common in the first place, which is why we all got on so well.

Thank you so much CLP, and Errol, the group photo... WOW !!

On my way back from Bids, I popped in to see the Donkeys at Sidmouth that she has adopted for all the bloggers.

VJ, is adorable and was happy to pose.

Daniel was content too until a lovely couple offered to take a snap of me and him together, all I can say is , he is camera shy!

I took lots of photos tho and will put these and blog meet pics too as soon as I get the tutoring off kids ( my chrissie pressie )

One or two interesting ones too.....

Back to original subject and CLP putting us through all this again..

    Yes please, WHEN??

    Thanks so much. MTF.xx
