My wee lassie is in the midst of her finals at Newcastle Uni so there is indeed stress around at the moment!

She won't be listening to the show because she'll be too busy studying but give Sara a shout anyway.

A great way to de-stress is to jump into the car and head up the road with a good tune turned up very loud on the ayepod. My suggestion:

Exam angst still haunts my dreams. Intermittently. I managed to pass all of them, very well, mostly, but - yet. Could have done better, perhaps. Not sure who we're trying to please by passing exams, but there's no doubt plenty of folk have done well enough without jumping through those hoops. In spite of it all. Cue cod-psychology. Just do your best.

It takes 10 minutes solid phoning home from work to get The Daughter up to face a lovely day of...well God knows what she does...I hope studying is involved...!!!

After an evening of mental stress and strain, I can recommend this for the exhausted teary wee soul (that's me, not her)...

Pour some wine,, settle yourself on the sofa, feet up, grab a cuddly cat, rest your head, close your eyes and let this beautiful song carry you away...

Peaceful easy Feeling is a good shout Joe-K, mellow enough to avoid distraction but not too bland to be unplayable.....and I think that's the challenge here, tricky one too!

the other thing that comes to mind is that stress comes thru deadlines and therefore time pressure, tempted to suggest "Time" by Bowie.....however there is the question of lyrics......

When I was studying, up to and including my honours exams and professional review, I used to make sure that the last song I listened to was Bowie and Ashes to Ashes to make sure that nothing nasty sneaked into my head and put me off! Seemed to work except now Ashes to Ashes always reminds me of exams.

I also used to dab a wee bit of a herbal calming lotion on my wrist which is quite a good idea so any anxious parents may want to try that....they can also give some to the kids!

Only thing, I can't make out a single word he sings and there was one track in particular that I loved, but haven't a clue what it was nor how to find it. Mumblemumblemumbletrustmumble. I can't honestly say that I find that quiet songs help with de-stressing. I need to put on loudly sung, air drum & air guitar tracks in order to let off steam. The quiet chill out songs are best left for the accompaniment of a good malt before bed time, by which time I would hope to be well de-stressed!

Revision mantra...

I only have myself to blame for not having studied enough should fail!

It's long ago and far away - if I'm studying something now, I generally prefer silence - I think it must be an age thing - these days if I was playing music while concentrating it would tend to be ambient things - Lemon Jelly, Yo Yo Ma playing the cello, that sort of thing.

Repetitve/hypnotic things tend to work well - thus, I always found I studied better listening to the White Album and settled down and got into it once 'Dear Prudence - The Beatles came on, with it's meditative accoustic and McCartney's hypnotic bass it was the perfect rhymic accompaniment to study.

The fact that track didn't last more than 3-4 minutes didn't matter - the spell was cast.

Maybe we should run it on repeat in the office?
