When my marriage fell apart I went through a spell of sitting in the corner, sookin' on Swedish vodka and listening to Country music.

This is the song that helped me begin to heal. Written by the late Stephen Bruton, it contains the killer line:- "There's a vantage point, (it takes some time to find), where you can see how all the pieces fit as you watch them fall apart..."

I imagine everyone who has similarly suffered can relate to that.

A difficult one for me because all I ever loved I still have.

Apart from MB Bars perhaps but I can't find a song about that.

Maybe now that it's impossible to get Pink Floyd together given the recent passing of former members, I should request Mother from The Wall

As for tomorrow.....my first proper date was to go to see the film "Grease" in summer 1978 at the "Orient" cinema in Ayr, the young lady was called Jacqueline, who hailed from Troon......wonder what she's doing now?

Anyway the best number for my money is the title track.....

I thought last night's show was the best one in all the time I've been listening.

I haven't downloaded anything yet but will definately listen again.

The range and diversity in the shouts last night was quite incredible, I thought, and only a tiny fraction obviously made it to the playlist.

It adds creeedence to and echos many sentiments already expressed on this blog, so there's no point in rehearsing it all again.The programme said it all.

Songs about relationship break - ups tend to concentrate on the melodramtic and that many end with a calamatous event is probably true enough - but it is more or less always preceded by a long period of life as a zombie.

This zombie life is filled with dread, anticipation and occasional elation, and was a great fascination for me when I was going through it.

Two songs from the period always struck me as particularly relevant in that they describe zombie living quite well:

The Rhythm Of The Blues - Mary-Chapin Carpenter

also, Battlefield - Nick Lowe has to be up there too - there is a fabulous cover version of that song by Diana Ross - worth checking out.

I still can`t listen to it without tears!

1977 Met a girl from Luton. I went there a couple of times, She was supposed to come up but phoned at last minute to say she'd no money - I was flush so sent £150 by post to allow her to fly up - never set eyes on the wee slapper again - When on phone Rod stewart was singing 1st cut is the deepest. Can't listen to that song but I fall about laughing. There was going to be a party when she came up so i dont think my intentions were honourable. So not for the last time has a woman cost me dearly
