Walters: Yewtree-inspired drama is brilliantly written
Julie Walters has said a new TV drama inspired by Operation Yewtree is 'brilliantly written'.
Walters plays Marie, the wife of fictional comedian Paul Finchley played by Robbie Coltrane in Channel 4's National Treasure. The four-part drama was inspired by Operation Yewtree, the police investigation into the sexual abuse perpetrated by Jimmy Saville and others.
The Bafta-winning actress told BBC Radio 5 live:
"When I saw various cases that have come up over the years like this, it's the family that you kind of look at and think 'What is going on there? How an earth are they all living through this? What's going on in their heads?' "
"I've done a lot of work in my time and I've never had quite the response that I've had for this."
National Treasure starts Tuesday 20 on Channel 4 at 9pm.
