Kevin Bishop: Porridge was 'a special thing to do'

Kevin Bishop says he 'grew up watching the prison sitcom Porridge with his grandfather', so couldn't believe his luck when he was asked to play Nigel 'Fletch' Fletcher, the grandson of Norman Stanley Fletcher in the highly anticipated revival.

The star told 5 live's Sarah Brett and Colin Paterson that the show 'was rerun a lot throughout my childhood and to me it was like the perfect sitcom, flawless'.

The actor, famous for playing characters in My Family, Peep Show and Star Stories says 'I couldn't believe that they wanted me and trusted me enough to do it. I just thought it would be too weird because it was such a thing that was so precious to me and it was enormous shoes to fill but the more I found out, the more I read the script the more I thought this might just be a really special thing to do'.
