War horse receives Dickin medal ‘for gallantry’

An American horse has been posthumously awarded the animal version of the Victoria Cross on the 63rd anniversary of the Korean War.

The chestnut mare, Reckless, who was promoted to Staff Sergeant, has been given the PDSA Dickin Medal at a ceremony in London.

Robin Hutton, who has written a book about Reckless, told 5 live "she wasn't a horse, she was a marine", who helped run ammunition and carry wounded soldiers to safety during the war after being bought from a local man for $250.
