Lennon: British 'too honest' when it comes to football diving

Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon believes the British mentality is "too nice" and prevents teams from winning elite European competitions more often.

Lennon, 44, managed Celtic in the Champions League against Barcelona and said: "We (British teams) always want to stay on our feet and play the game the right way. For all the Barcelona are a brilliant team, they would cut your throat in order to win a football match."

The Northern Irishman recounted conversations with Champions League winner Paul Lambert.

Lennon added: "I remember playing with Paul Lambert who won it with Dortmund. He would come into Celtic and tell us we're too honest compared to the other teams, the Italians, the Spanish, the Portuguese - these guys don't care."
