Jill Craybas: Sharapova shriek “is too much”
Maria Sharapova’s grunting became louder of the years and is now too much, according to BBC 5 live tennis summariser Jill Craybas. American Craybas faced Sharapova in the 2007 French Open.
“It’s weird too, because when I played her I felt like the shrieking…I was waiting for the ball to come really, really fast at me," Craybas said.
“Because it was such a high shriek, my expectation was already to move backward, and then all of a sudden I wasn’t even at the ball.
"You’re expecting this ball to come so hard.
“I think it’s a little bit deceiving if you haven’t played her before, and I think it can throw you off a little bit at the beginning.”
