The Brit put up a brave fight but was defeated by World no. 1 Serena Williams.

After losing the first set 6-2, Watson stormed the second set 6-4. Despite being two breaks up in the third set, the relentless Serena eventually found a way to beat the resilient 23 year-old 7-5.
