James McCarthy scored after Romelu Lukaku's lay-off to give the home side a 1-0 lead at half time.
Newcastle striker Yoan Gouffran tripped Aaron Lennon in the penalty area with Lukaku scoring from the spot to double Everton's advantage.
The Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini was sent off for a challenge on Lennon with Ross Barkley adding a third goal in stoppage time.
