In session

In session
Hann*h* is a collaborative project between Evesham musicians Hanna Knight and Tim Haines - who both happen to run their own separate companies specialising in domestic repairs!

Their music covers a range of styles that sit somewhere between folk, pop and indie.

Hear their live session, as performed for BBC Hereford & Worcester at SnodFest 2014, on this week's show.

Best record shop

Best record shop
A shop in Malvern has made it into the top ten best record shops in the country - as voted by Guardian readers.

Carnival records, run by husband and wife team Rachel and Chris Heard, specialise in vinyl at the shop they've run for the past two-and-a-half years.

Rachel took our reporter Justyn Surrall on a tour of the shop, to take a look at how they're benefiting from the 'vinyl revival'.

The BBC Hereford & Worcester Musicians' Masterclass

The BBC Hereford & Worcester Musicians' Masterclass
As part of this year's Worcester Music Festival, we brought our ever-popular Musicians' Masterclass to The Hive in Worcester - putting together a panel of industry experts to answer those all important questions, such as:

  • How do I get signed?
  • Is there an easy way to land gigs in other areas?
  • How do I build a fanbase?
  • How do you write a number one song?
  • What's the best way to sell your music?

Sean Davies asks this week's question about how to cope with musical differences.

It's a problem that's been experienced by Nigel Clark of Dodgy, who takes the lead on answering Sean's question.

We also hear from Tom Oliver, tour manager of Haircut 100, Everything But The Girl, Van Morrison & The Proclaimers, who's witnessed more than his fair share of disagreements in the back of the tour bus!

The BBC Hereford & Worcester stage at SnodFest nr Pershore

The BBC Hereford & Worcester stage at SnodFest nr Pershore
SnodFest has got to be our favourite festival story.

A few years back, a group of people got together in Upton Snodsbury with the idea of building a park.

But instead of holding a car boot, bingo evening or jumble sale, decided to hold their own music festival.

This has now turned into an annual event, with the exception of last year, to fund the upkeep of the area.

Northern Soul

Northern Soul
A film about Northern Soul music is being released this week.

It focuses on one of the biggest venues in the scene's heyday - the Wigan Casino.

But Northern Soul was not only big in the north of England in the 1960s and 70s, it was also very popular in Worcestershire.

Clive Jones, who used to travel up north, has led a revival - he DJs at Northern Soul nights at the Chateau Impney Hotel in Droitwich.

Our reporter Phil Maiden has been to meet him.

Live tracks from Tom Forbes

Live tracks from Tom Forbes
We first came across Tom Forbes as a 15-year-old singer/songwriter at SnodFest - playing the guitar…over his head.

By building up layers of sound on the spot with his loop pedal, the Evesham - now Redditch resident - adds harmonies, beat boxing, percussion, acoustic guitar and vocals over the top.

Last week, he popped in to visit our BBC Introducing colleages in Birmingham to talk about how he got involved in music - we'll hear that chat and some of his live tracks.

Check out his live session with us...

BBC Introducing in Hereford

BBC Introducing in Hereford
BBC Introducing in Hereford & Worcester supports unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar musicians from Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Since 2011, we've been taking the show out on-the-road showcasing the very best musicians from our two counties.

Our next recording session takes place on Sunday 26 October at KJM Studios in Plough Lane, Hereford, and features five acts who we've been playing on BBC Hereford & Worcester recently.

This is your chance to see how we capture live music on tape, while being able to enjoy some of the hottest new acts we've got in our area right now.

None of these artists knew they were being considered for a live session - they were chosen based on the tracks they uploaded to us.
