Geoffrey Boycott’s message to Roy Hodgson for World Cup
“Hi Roy, this is Geoffrey Boycott, I wish you well in the World Cup, but I think you are going to have to play a lot better than we think you are,” said the former England cricketer in a recorded message to the England football manager.
“If you play as bad as the England cricket team did in Australia, when they lost five nil and they were awful, don’t come home,” said the Test Match Special presenter.
Geoffrey Boycott's advice to the players on how to cope with the heat was to “mentally tell themselves they’re not tired” drawing on his own experience playing around the world. He also said to Roy Hodgson "you've been brave in your selection" so "now go for it".
