Festivals

It was the story of the weekend at this year's Nozstock Festival at Rowden Paddocks near Bromyard - where this year they held their Wild Wild West theme.
DJ Yoda, Mr Scruff and Chas & Dave were headlining - but we also nabbed our own stage in 'The Hidden Valley' - and highlights from that will be broadcast throughout the whole of August.

In session, live at Nozstock

Scarlette is a 20-year-old singer from Redditch.
She has been performing from a very young age and in 2005 starred alongside Jools Holland at the Redditch Air Live Festival.
She went on to support Misha B and other artists around Birmingham and also performed at the Strawberry Fields Festival.

Meet The Musicians

Our next recording session takes place tomorrow at the Worcester Arts Workshop, as part of the Worcester Music Festival, and features the five acts we plan to broadcast throughout August and September.
Acts chosen are: Aimsley & The Doctors, Dead:Lung, Massive Head Trauma & Weathered Hands.
None of these acts knew they were being considered for a live session - they were chosen based on the tracks they uploaded here - which led them to receiving airplay on BBC Hereford & Worcester.
Doors open at 4pm - we're on till 9pm - turn up anytime and admission is free!

The Music Map

The Bank Holiday weekend sees the Upton Festival take over Fish Meadow in the town, bringing a whole host of stars including The Troggs, Slade, Chesney Hawkes and Dr Feelgood to Worcestershire.
One artist who won't have to travel too far is Toyah Willcox, who lives in Pershore - we'll hear from her tonight!

Whole Lotta Love

A campaign has been started to get a statue to Led Zeppelin's John Bonham put up in Redditch town centre.
John was born in the town and went to school there before going on to be the drummer for one of the biggest rock bands in the world.
We'll hear from Ros Sidaway of the Redditch Town Centre Partnership who's also part of Vintage Trax, a company that loves its music!

Magical Bicycle Tour

On yer bike! At least that's what one band were told four years ago by a keen cyclist - and ever since, that's how they've done their tours!
Dino Christodoulou went off to live in Spain for a few months - but knew he'd miss his saxophone so much, he took it with him!
He eventually swapped his living room practise sessions for the great outdoors and began earning money as a busker.
So when he returned to the UK - he suggested the idea to his fellow band mates and now an additional three bands go on the tour as well, using nothing but bicycles!
What's being said in this week's papers
B-Fest

So...just what is a music festival? Well, we here at H&W towers believe it to be either an outdoor event that takes place on more than one stage or an indoor event that encompasses many venues.
Just because somebody has a "festival" in a pub beer garden doesn't mean it's exactly the Big Chill! Pubs and clubs often have money-making weekends of live music - but when they all work together over several days (like Malvern Rocks and Worcester Music Festival) then that does qualify.
But events such as the Worcester Beer Festival or Barrels Beer Festival don't because - as their name suggests, their focus is on the beer.
So when B-Fest rocked up to the Bridge Inn in Tenbury Wells and a week later at the Black Lion in Hereford - we were a little stumped…
The BBC Introducing Musicians' Masterclass

We visited various locations across the UK - Glasgow, Belfast, London, Salford & Cardiff. DJs from all over BBC Radio, music industry experts and artists got together to host a day of sessions, workshops and masterclasses.
On the guestlist at Maida Vale were Worcester's Shaun Williams, Malvern's 5parks, Bromyard's Tenz, Droitwich's Case Closed and Bewdley's Barbarix.
Invited to Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff were Hereford's Daniel & The Scandals, Kidderminster's Lauren Wright and man-of-many-Worcester-bands Pete Adams.
We covered everything from song writing & MC workshops to promoting your music & making the most of your Twitter accounts.
We also heard from successful artists about their own musical journeys. Our special guests included Ben Howard, Aluna George, Wretch 32, Devlin, Angel, Japanese Popstars, Phil Kieran, Badly Drawn Boy and the Manic Street Preachers.
This week we hear from Wretch 32 and Angel on how to get a record contract.
