Festivals

Festivals

What a scorcher - then the heaven's opened - then what a scorcher again - before the heaven's opened again!

It was the story of the weekend at this year's Nozstock Festival at Rowden Paddocks near Bromyard - where this year they held their Wild Wild West theme.

DJ Yoda, Mr Scruff and Chas & Dave were headlining - but we also nabbed our own stage in 'The Hidden Valley' - and highlights from that will be broadcast throughout the whole of August.

When she's not writing music at home in Kidderminster, Georgina Upton can be found working at Universal Records in London.

But the thing is - she hasn't told them she writes music - otherwise she may not have got the job (please don't fire her Universal if you're reading this!).

So for her, the fight to get her music heard is even greater - so we stepped in to help and put her on at Nozstock.

She promptly blew everyone away - or rather had them have their arms in the air loving the tunes!

Award-winning pub!

Award-winning pub!
A Kidderminster venue has been named as the best small pub in Britain for live music.

The Boar's Head, where we recorded a session last autumn, was honoured at the House Of Parliament (no less!) after being supported by their local MP.

Sid and Sandra took over the venue a couple of years ago after fire officers had limited it to a capacity of just 25 people because it wasn't up to current regulations.

This week, we've sent Andy O'Hare along to Lakefest.

LakeFest is a relatively new music festival taking place on the Worcestershire border, near Tewkesbury, at Bredon Hardwick.

Ocean Colour Scene, The Beat, The Levellers, Chas & Dave and various local bands are involved in this year's event.

Their website says: "Come and join the award nominated Lakefest family festival with World Class Music, great local foods, beer and local cider."

"Based at Croft Farm Waterpark in the Cotswolds you can camp, glamp or visit daily."

"With just 4,000 places available this is an intimate and relaxed festival atmosphere.

"Don't miss the 'best new', 'best family', 'grassroots' and 'small festival' award nominee of 2012".

BBC Introducing Musicians' Masterclass

BBC Introducing Musicians' Masterclass

If you're a budding solo artist, an MC, or just started a brand new band then you should check out BBC Introducing Musicians' Masterclasses.

We visited various locations across the UK - Glasgow, Belfast, London, Salford & Cardiff. DJs from all over BBC Radio, music industry experts and artists got together to host a day of sessions, workshops and masterclasses.

On the guestlist at Maida Vale were Worcester's Shaun Williams, Malvern's 5parks, Bromyard's Tenz, Droitwich's Case Closed and Bewdley's Barbarix.

Invited to Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff were Hereford's Daniel & The Scandals, Kidderminster's Lauren Wright and man-of-many-Worcester-bands Pete Adams.

We covered everything from song writing & MC workshops to promoting your music & making the most of your Twitter accounts.

We also heard from successful artists about their own musical journeys. Our special guests included Ben Howard, Aluna George, Wretch 32, Devlin, Angel, Japanese Popstars, Phil Kieran, Badly Drawn Boy and the Manic Street Preachers.

This week we hear from Malvern's 5parks - who also runs Recon in Great Malvern about his time at BBC Maida Vale.

Stomp & Holler

Stomp & Holler
When he's not busy organising the Upton Blues Festival or Blues at The Fold, or playing in the Big Blues Tribe or Mumbo Jumbo, Martley's Oliver Carpenter can be found performing with Stomp & Holler.

Because he is such a prolific figure on the local music scene, when his email dropped to say "hey - we're launching our new album at the Marr's Bar", we took more notice that we normally do!

Meet The Musicians

Meet The Musicians
Once a month, we've been recording acts chosen by us at a variety of venues across the area - including at some of our biggest festivals.

Our next recording session takes place on Sunday 1 September at the Worcester Arts Workshop, as part of the Worcester Music Festival, and features the five acts we plan to broadcast throughout August and September.

Acts chosen are: Aimsley & The Doctors, Dead:Lung, Massive Head Trauma & Weathered Hands.

None of these acts knew they were being considered for a live session - they were chosen based on the tracks they uploaded here - which led them to receiving airplay on BBC Hereford & Worcester.

Doors open at 4pm - we're on till 9pm - turn up anytime and admission is free!
