The Arts Council of Wales is set to announcement their funding review on Tuesday, with a meeting taking place today to discuss the fates of the 116 arts companies that currently receive financial help.

As reported in today's Western Mail, the Welsh National Opera has come under criticism as it received over £4.5m from the Arts Council of Wales last year - more than three times the grant given to the second highest recipient (Clwyd Theatr Cymru in Mold).

Nick Capaldi, the chief executive of the Arts Council of Wales (ACW), recently told BBC's The Politics Show: "Everything is under the microscope, from large to small. In some ways, smaller community groups are doing our most important work."

He said the ACW would be bold and decisive in the 29 June funding review announcement and said they would support the best and those who engaged with communities, while balancing geography and the size of organisation.
