The end is in sight - the curtain will soon be coming down on IBC for another year. But there's still a whole day of exhibition left - and we have talks and presentations on machine translation and HDR coming up today too...

Congratulations to our Cook-Along Kitchen Experience team who have been featured in IBC's "What Caught My Eye" selection, especially noting the future opportunities of the work we have done in this object-based production. Well done CAKE team!

Our Monday starts early, with a paper session: "Video Translation: weaving synthetic voices into the multilingual production" is presented by Susanne Weber at 8.30 at IBC. Here you can find out how BBC News Labs are using machine translation and speech synthesis to automatically translate video coming into the newsroom. Susanne explains a bit more about this amazingly impressive project in the video below (and read the paper on the subject):

There's an update on 12 months worth of work within AMWA's Networked Media Incubator at the AMWA stand (Hall 3, 3.B22s) at midday. BBC R&D's Pete Brightwell will be discussing the importance of the Networked Media Open Specification, what we've done so far and, after 3 workshops already, where the Incubator is set to go next.

HDR is one of the big themes on the final day of IBC. Andrew Cotton will be giving people another chance to hear his UHD Masterclass - a talk on High Dynamic Range which goes through all the detail on our Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) system.  The talk is at midday for SES and requires registration.

As you can see from the image above, our work on High Dynamic Range has also been showing elsewhere at IBC - you can view our HLG HDR encoded sports footage at 100 fps over DVB-T2 and DVB-DASH on the EBU stand with our own Simon Thompson demonstrating the content. But he has also noted that there are lots of HDR production tools appearing on smaller stands at this year's IBC - WFM, LUTs, field and grading monitors. One of Simon's technical papers which supported Friday afternoon's session "A Brighter Future: High Dynamic Range TV and wide colour gamut" which he talks about in the video below and which can be read online now.

Today's IBC Daily magazine (p16) picks up on the VC-2 codec as R&D's James Sandford notes below, and if you are interested in more, it's worth taking a look at our VC-2 project work too.

At 11am in the Advances in Technology stream IEEE (BTS) host an Advanced Technologies for Audio session at the Conference.  Senior managers for development at DTS and Qualcom will be there to talk about the latest standards and techniques in the audio world that are set to revolutionise the world of audio.  3D spatial audio and immersive sound tutorials are promised, but if they interest you, you may want to check our our Binaural work we've done as part of the Turning Forest VR experience or the BBC Proms, and our Spatial Audio work.
