We've talked a lot about our technical paper presentations on the blog over the last few days, so today we're turning our attention to more of the work that's showing on our stand in the Future Zone (stand 8F20) at IBC on Day 4.

Visual Perceptive Media is a drama film we are showing on our stand which has the capability to change its form based on the situation in which it is being viewed. The film is composed of a number of small media objects: video clips, sounds, and sound tracks; and visual filters (grading).

The film played out is a composition of these pieces in real-time in response to the audience situation: the time of day, location and audience characteristics. We are demonstrating a version of the film on a phone app which identifies individual preference profiles which informs the composition of the film, it's pacing, mood, cinematic effects and storyline twists.

Virtual Reality also has a big presence on our stand: the BBC Taster team are showing some of our celebrated VR and 360 experiences including the critically aclaimed 'The Turning Forest' which is a treat for the eyes AND ears with it's high-quality 3D soundtrack by BBC R&D's audio team.  Also catch 'We Wait', a Syrian refugee experience produced with Oscar winning movie studio Aardman Animations, and 'Attenborough 360' starring the legendary BBC naturalist... and a titanosaur!  Make sure you try on the headset before the IBC is over!

Turning to today's conference, we start the day with a presentation of our technical paper on the Turing Codec. The codec is an open source software HEVC video encoder that allows highly efficient compression of UHD video content with low computational complexity, and you can find out all about it from R&D's Saverio Blasi at 8.30 this morning.

Elsewhere at IBC there are plenty of non-BBC interesting talks and displays that we found interesting. A session this morning titled "Storytelling in a Multiplatform World" looks at how to get people to watch your programme despite a world of digital distractions - and the panel includes speakers from NBCUniversal, Red Bee, Canal+ and ITV, so promises to be full of insight. If you're interested in great ideas and work around storytelling check out Visual Perceptive Media on our stand as mentioned above, Storyarc on our website or Story Explorer - which you can find out about on the interactive presenation screens in IBC's Future Zone, as shown below.

We'll be updating this page across the day as we spot more highlights, but tweet us (#BBCIBC) or share a post on Facebook and we'll share your suggestions and pictures from our stand too!
