Where can I find the BBC in Edinburgh?

We are Fringe Venue No.25 and you can find the BBC at the Edinburgh Festivals, here:

There’s more information on how to find us, including some handy directions and a map.

What is happening at the BBC hub at George Heriot's School?

Our pop-up broadcast hub at George Heriot's School (GHS) will host a range of BBC shows and programmes from Friday 2nd until Friday 23rd August 2019. You can find out how to get tickets for shows at our hub on our ticketing page. You don’t need a ticket to come along and relax in our garden.

When is the BBC hub at George Heriot's School open?

We'll be open from Friday 2nd until Friday 23rd August.

Is the site accessible?

The site is wheelchair accessible and we also provide a hearing loop in the Blue Tent.

Will there be a place to buy food and drink at the BBC hub?

Yes. There will be food and coffee concessions and a licensed bar. These will be open to all visitors, including those without show tickets. You can bring your own food and snacks but please do not bring any open containers of alcohol to the venue.

Are there toilets?

Yes. There are toilets for the public, including an accessible toilet and baby changing facilities for parents & carers.

Is there a cloakroom at your hub?

There is no cloakroom at our hub, so please avoid bringing bags or large personal belongings as there are no facilities for storing your items.

Tickets for our Blue Tent shows

How can I get tickets for shows at the BBC venue at George Heriot's School?

Visit our ticketing page, for details on how you can attend a show.

Is there a charge to attend?

No. Most shows in our Blue Tent at GHS are ticketed via BBC Shows and Tours and all are free.

Entrance to our BBC hub is free, even if you don’t have a ticket for a show, so this is your chance to visit us and enjoy the grounds of George Heriot’s School.

Does my show ticket guarantee me a place?

Unfortunately, your ticket does not guarantee you a seat in the show. As these tickets are free, people often request more than they need, so we have to issue more tickets than there are seats available to allow for this.

We do consider carefully how many extra tickets to issue for each show, but we recommend that you arrive in good time to be sure that you are not disappointed. Entry into the show is on a first come, first served basis.

This year, we’ll also be giving you daily chances to grab extra tickets for some of the shows, all throughout our stay at the Festivals. Visit us at George Heriot’s School, where the team at our Info Point will be happy to update you on what tickets we’ll be giving away that day.

Any empty seats will be opened up to people who don’t have a ticket, shortly before the event.

I don’t have a ticket – can I turn up on the day?

Priority for ticketed events will be given to ticket holders, however, we will be doing a daily ticket giveaway all throughout our stay at the Festivals. Visit the Info Point, which is situated at the entrance of the BBC Garden, for updates on which shows we've released extra tickets for.

Shortly before each event any remaining seats will be opened up to people who don’t have a ticket – our on-site Info Point will have details on how to join our standby queue.

When do doors open?

The Blue Tent doors will open 30 minutes before the show start time.

Do I need to bring anything?

If you are attending a show in the Blue Tent, you need to bring your ticket. Please note that all ticket holders and their guests must bring photo ID. Copies of photo ID are not acceptable. Some shows have an age restriction – this will be clearly marked when you apply for the tickets. You do not need to bring anything else.

What do I do if I lose or forget my ticket?

Please do bring your printed tickets whenever possible. However, if you have lost or forgotten your tickets and cannot access them on your smartphone, then please speak to the team at our Info Point, which is situated at the entrance of the BBC Garden.

What is the latecomers policy?

Because we are filming, recording and broadcasting, latecomers will only be admitted to the Blue Tent if there is an appropriate break in order to enter.

Are the shows seated or standing?

All shows in the Blue Tent are seated. All shows are operated on a “general admission” policy, so there is no assigned seating.

Will the shows be recorded and broadcast?

Shows will be recorded and/or filmed for later transmission, and some will be broadcast live. We will make this clear to audiences before the start of each show.

Children and families

Can I bring my children to your venue?

Children are very welcome, but every child must be accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for them at the event.

All children and young people attending Blue Tent shows must have a show ticket to allow entry. We cannot admit children without a ticket.

Is there an age restriction on any of the shows?

Due to the nature of some content, age restrictions apply to some of our shows. Details of age restrictions will be on the BBC Shows and Tours pages for each show.

Can I leave my children at a show?

Every child who attends must be accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for them at the event. The BBC cannot take responsibility for any unaccompanied children.

Is there a crèche?

No, the BBC is unable to provide any childcare facilities. While children are very welcome, they must be accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for them.

Are there baby changing facilities on site?

Yes. There will be a designated baby changing facility for parents & carers to use.
