6 times Louis Tomlinson made us love him even more

Louis Tomlinson came into the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show studio for a chat, on the very the morning his new solo single with Bebe Rexha, Back to You, was unleashed to the world. Scream!

Louis was excited too, of course, though we'd woken him up very early. “At 6 o’clock this morning I couldn’t believe my alarm was going off already,” he said, “but I got up.” And we’re SO glad he did.

We thought Louis couldn't make us love him any more...but he could. We round up his six best moments below...

1. When he put his friends above the experts

When it comes to trying out his music, Louis always plays it to those close to him at the start.

“I always play it to friends and family first,” he said, “I think it’s important that you get a real honest perspective, that doesn’t come from a label head."

Louis, next time you’re showcasing some new material in your front room, we’d really like to come along. We'll bring the biscuits.

Luckily, everything he’s tested on his loved ones so far seems to have gone down a treat. “They haven’t really told me that they hate any songs yet!”

2. When he explained his artistic process

Radio 1 gave the world the first play of Louis’ new track Back To You, and we were instantly loving the atmospheric earworm.

"This song stood out to me across everything I’ve written," he said, "It’s quite minimal in the production; it’s something that, even melodically, is quite different to something I would normally do.”

Asked about the inspiration behind his lyrics, Louis admitted that they could be interpreted as somewhat…harsh.

“We all know those people,” said Louis, “Where you’re like, you probably shouldn’t be together, but you just keep finding your way back to each other. It’s kind of just writing about the most extreme case of that situation.” We’ve hear you Louis, we hear you.

3. When he fessed up about his Love Island addiction

“I’m disappointed at myself that I love it,” said Louis, talking about Love Island. What? Be proud, we say!

“I’m quite new to it, I’ve not quite embraced it yet. But believe me, I’m as addicted as anyone else,” he said.

We always knew Louis was just like us, underneath.

4. When he got some showbiz types confused

While Louis mostly likes to go out with his mates from back in Doncaster, he does hit the odd swanky do. And we’re relieved to hear that, when he does, he plays it cool. Or, not, as the case may be.

“I walked up to, I believe it was Tobey Maguire,” he explained, “Who was Spiderman when I was a kid, but I was more interested in the film Green Street. So I walk up to him and I say, ,'absolutely love Green Street mate,’ and he’s just looking through me. I can see my mates laughing.

That's possibly because Tobey Maguire wasn’t in Green Street. Elijah Wood, however, was.

“Tell me they don’t look similar!” said Louis. Don’t worry Louis, only a bit cringe…

5. When he appreciated the limitations of local cuisine

Louis is a huge fan of his collaborator Bebe Rexha, and enjoyed showing the American star the, er, bright lights of his home city Doncaster, where they filmed the video for their new single.

Our Louis was amused, however, when he was told that Bebe wanted to get some sushi for lunch.

“Honestly,” he said, “You’re going to have to go about 50 miles out of Doncaster to get anything they even call sushi.”

The jury is still out as to what Bebe actually ate, but Louis has his predictions. “Chips and curry sauce, probably.”

Listening back to a clip of Bebe playing the trumpet a while ago on the Radio 1 Breakfast show, Louis was…impressed. “It’s unique,” he said. "Almost...indie."

When Nick asked Louis if he’d like to have a go on Bebe’s trumpet himself, he was eager to oblige. And then he made sweet, sweet music…in a manner of speaking. Incredible scenes.
