8 of Radio 2's greatest culinary moments
8 March 2018

It's no secret that the Radio 2 studios play host to some impressive names from all corners of the world, including the culinary world! From Michelin-starred chefs to tent-based bakers (we're looking at you, Paul Hollywood), here are some of the finest food moments we've enjoyed courtesy of our guests...
Nadiya Hussain brings a festive feast to Steve's studio

Nadiya Hussain: "My husband applied for the Great British Bake Off for me... without me knowing!"
The Bake Off star has a Christmas recipe book called Nadiya's Bake Me A Festive Story.
Nadiya Hussain has covered a lot of ground since winning the Great British Bake Off's coveted cake-stand trophy in 2015. She's judged the Junior Bake Off, presented her own two-part travelogue, The Chronicles of Nadiya, and co-presented The Big Family Cooking Showdown alongside our very own Zoë Ball.
Late last year, Nadiya paid Steve a visit to talk turkey and spinach pancakes and making Christmas come to life in the kitchen. In the words of Nadiya: "What’s better than having christmas come to life in your hands!" Well, quite.
Paul Hollywood talks pastries, Prue and perfecting his bakes

Paul Hollywood: "The 'Bake Off' tent is a special place to be"
Paul looks back on 'Bake Off' and chats about his new book and TV show 'A Baker's Life'.
He's served as head baker at many a fancy hotel (The Dorchester, Chester Grosvenor and the Cliveden Hotel, to name a few) and, of course, passes judgements over a smorgasbord of bakes in the famous GBBO tent; so, as far as food goes, we're certain Paul Hollywood knows his stuff.
He sat down with Steve and spoke about the science of baking and perfecting the making of pork pies.
Nigella gets serious about her love for a classic sandwich

Nigella tells Chris why the ham sandwich makes her new book
Nigella Lawson reveals what inspires her recipes in At My Table.
Chris described people as having a negative "nibble" at the recipes featured in Nigella Lawson's latest book, At My Table, but it's safe to say that we're all in agreement when it comes to the mightiness of a cheese and ham toastie. Although, in Nigella's world, the classic snack is elevated to fine dining status with the help of Brie, Parma ham and figs.
Chris chows down on some Cornish pasties

Happy Cornish Pasty Week! Three brilliant bakers play 'Pitch Your Pasty' with Chris
Chris celebrates this local delicacy at the start of the first ever Cornish Pasty Week.
Cornish pasty tasting: it's a hard job but someone's got to do it! The lucky taste-tester just so happens to be our own Chris Evans, who chowed down on three perfect pasties and passed judgement... or at least tried to! (It's not easy giving your verdict when your mouth's full.)
Melissa Hemsley treats Steve to some coconut muffins

Melissa Hemsley: "I grew up learning to cook off Ready Steady Cook"
Melissa talks through her book Eat Happy, what's in it and why she loves Ainsley Harriott
Melissa Hemsley is one half of cooking sister-duo, Hemsley + Hemsley, who are renowned for their back-to-basics approach to food, as well as their grain-less, gluten-free recipes. To celebrate the launch of her latest book, Eat Happy, Melissa treated Steve's studio to some coconut muffins which she described as "delicious, bright and lovely". Any left for us?!
Orlando Murrin indulges Chris's sweet tooth with mulled wine brownies

How does Orlando make his brownies the best ever?
BBC Good Food's Orlando Murrin brings Chris the brownies he been promising.
Another day, another sweet tooth satiated. This time it was BBC Good Food's Orlando Murrin who did the honours, delivering Chris his "best ever brownies". Ever wondered how you get a delicious sugar crust on top of your treats? Wonder no more. "Squidgy", "crackle", "crunch" and "gunge" are all words Orlando uses to describe his brownies and that alone is enough to have us reaching for the baking tray.
Delia Smith settles the debate about the proper way to poach an egg

Delia Smith solves our eggs-traordinary debate about the perfect poach!
Delia gives our listener Hayley some advice from her Complete How To Cook book.
We've wasted many an egg trying to perfect our poaching method so Chris recruited none other than Delia Smith to give us an egg-based education. Seven minutes is apparently all you need to create an egg-cellent breakfast!
Steve provides the only pancake recipe you'll ever need

Chef Wrighty's pancake recipe
Steve Wright's got the only instructions you need for perfect pancakes on Shrove Tuesday.
He's no Delia but if Steve Wright tells us that he's in possession of the only pancake recipe we'll ever need then we wholeheartedly believe him. And remember: any day can be a pancake day!
