Real Talk: Clara Amfo and Greg James on facing fear and embracing who you are

Clara Amfo: Fright or flight
Clara spoke about facing your fears and not stopping yourself from achieving your goals by getting stuck in your comfort zone (ironically she conquered one of her own fears by giving this talk and speaking publicly to a group).

Clara recaps her experience of being offered (and accepting) her current show on Radio 1, how she dealt with it and what she's learned from the situation.
Comfort zone
At the time of being offered the show Clara was happily presenting the weekend breakfast show on 1Xtra and the Official Chart show on Radio 1.
Her initial reaction was to turn down the opportunity for fear of how the change would affect her life (negatively).
- When we're too comfortable we don't get a lot done
- It's easy to get set in your ways and not push yourself to acheive the best you can
Being controlled by fear
- "In life we have set plans and think things have to go in an ABC order... that's not reality, sometimes things go CBA"
- You can't let the opinions of others detract from what you want to do
- In the words of Rihanna, "Life's too short to be sitting around miserable, people gonna talk whether you're doing bad or good"
Overcoming fear
Clara had to have a very real conversation with herself and address the question
- "Why are you so scared?"
- Take every opportunity; you don't work hard to achieve nothing!
- You are your best cheerleader so carry on cheering yourself on
Greg James: Being a confident nerd
Greg has wanted to work in radio for as long as he can remember. He shares advice on what you need to be thinking about to get your dream career and enjoy the journey along the way.
Be obsessed
- Get nerdy and learn everything you can about the industry you want to get into
- Focus on doing things for the right reason - i.e that you LOVE it
- If you think you can do it - you probably can. Work very hard!
Embrace it all
- Whatever creative job you want to get in to - there's no chosen path, learn it all
- Don't expect to just waltz into a job no matter how talented you think you are
- Enjoy everything about it - even the rubbish bits
Enjoy the journey
- There's plenty of time - don't panic, enjoy everything you do. It's all part of your journey
- Focus on YOU and your achievements - don't get hung up on what other people are doing
- It takes a long time so be fearless and go for it
