5 young stars who have been writing all your favourite pop hits

US star Bebe Rexha joined Nick Grimshaw on The Radio 1 Breakfast Show this week to discuss her new single I Got You and her rather successful career as a pop songwriter.

She also played an out-of-tune cornet.

Bebe Rexha should probably familiar to you - she sung on Martin Garrix's huge In The Name Of Love tune and David Guetta's Hey Mama.

As well as being a pop star in her own right, Bebe has made a name for herself as one of pop music's most in-demand young writers, penning hits for other celebs when she could have saved all her best work for herself.

Find out more about Bebe's songwriting CV and other young stars you may not know are responsible for some of your favourite pop songs right now.

Bebe Rexha

You may know Bebe Rexha from her appearance on Martin Garrix's mega-hit, In The Name Of Love, but her relationship with the top of charts dates back to 2013 when she co-wrote Eminem and Rihanna's hit, The Monster.

Since then, she's penned hits for Tinashe (All Hands On Deck), David Guetta (Hey Mama), G-Eazy (Me, Myself & I) and Iggy Azalea (Team) and now Bebe is causing a stir as a solo artist.

She's already dropped series of solo singles; including 2016's Nicki Minaj collaboration No Broken Hearts and her new single I Got You is set to give Bebe her first international solo hit. And not before time.

Julia Michaels

If you've listen to pop music over the past couple of years, then you've most likely heard a song by Julia Michaels.

This 23 year old wrote All In My Head (Flex) by Fifth Harmony, Justin Bieber's Sorry, Hands To Myself by Selena Gomez, Close by Nick Jonas and songs for Hailee Steinfeld, John Legend, Ed Sheeran, Little Mix and Demi Lovato.

Julia is now set for solo stardom herself, having released her first ever solo single, Issues, in January 2017. It's the first song she has written that Julia says she couldn't imagine anyone else singing, so decided to release it for herself.

MNEK is the London producer who launched Zara Larsson's international career with their collaboration, Never Forget You, and he's been doing the same for other artists for years.

He produced Little Mix's single Wings and current smash Touch, wrote Beyoncé’s Hold Up, Final Song by , Say Something by Karen Harding, Living For Love by Madonna as well as tunes for Kylie Minogue, The Saturdays and Clean Bandit. He is a one man hit machine and his CV reads like a who's who of global pop.

Oh, and his solo tunes are just as hot as his work behind the scenes.

Ester Dean

If you've seen Pitch Perfect, you'll probably recognise Ester Dean as one of the main cast, Cynthia-Rose.

But acting is not Ester's full-time work, it's not even her part-time job, because first she's a songwriter, second she's a singer in her own right.

Ester wrote Rihanna's Rude Boy and What's My Name, Nicki Minaj's Superbass, Katy Perry’s Firework and other huge hits by Kelly Clarkson, David Guetta, Beyoncé, Selena Gomez, GRL and even Florence & The Machine.

She has also released a string of solo singles too, but writing some of the biggest pop songs of the past decade has been her priority.

Charli XCX has tasted solo success with her own tunes (Boom Clap, Doing It, After The Afterparty) but her biggest successes so far are the songs she has written for other people.

She penned Icona Pop's global smash I Love It in 2012 and co-write and guested on Iggy Azalea's tune Fancy, which launched both stars to international success.

Since then, she wrote Selena Gomez's hit Same Old Love, will.i.am's Boys & Girls and most recently, Drum by MØ.

Charli is currently working on her third studio album and no doubt loads of new hits for other artists too.

Special mention: Sia

Everyone knows Sia has written a ton of hits for other people. Her most recent album, This Is Acting, was made up entirely of songs she had written for other artists who turned her tunes down.

Sia has written hits for (deep breath) Rihanna, Celine Dion, Jessie J, Beyoncé, Kylie Minogue, Cheryl, Shakira and many, many more.

She nearly quit before she wrote Titanium for David Guetta. We can't imagine the pop world without her.
