Steven Berkoff on the art of Peter Howson

29 October 2014

“I can see the Glimpses of Bosch, of Caravaggio. I can see the power, and I say to myself - thank God for Peter Howson”

Step in to the home of Steven Berkoff, the inimitable British actor, writer and director, as he takes us on a whirlwind discourse on European painting from the 15th century to the present day. Part one is a passionate nine minute monologue, Berkoff-style, captured in a single take, which culminates with his salute to Scots painter Peter Howson.

A friend and collaborator of Berkoff, Howson was Britain's official artist in the 1993 Bosnian War. In part two Berkoff, warming to his theme, interprets each canvas in his own burgeoning Howson collection. In these films from online arts platform HiBrow, Berkoff offers a unique, personal insight into what art means to him.
