2Tone Taxi
Taking inspiration from 2Tone Music and the iconic London Taxi, BBC CWR and its listeners created the '2Tone Taxi'.
2Tone Taxi. It became the unofficial symbol of the City of Culture bid and it is back on tour over the summer.
When Coventry was shortlisted for UK City of Culture 2021, BBC CWR encouraged people to take pride in their city in a very special way. Taking inspiration from 2Tone Music and the iconic London Taxi the radio station and its listeners created the ultimate mash up with the '2Tone Taxi'.

2Tone Taxi Tour Team
The 2Tone Taxi cab and tour has been devised by BBC Coventry & Warwickshire. We have commissioned the artwork created by Ian Cook from PopBangColour and worked alongside to create the experience in the back of the taxi with Theatre Absolute.
The audio has been curated and gathered from BBC archives and BBC Coventry & Warwickshire workshops during the 2Tone Taxi project.

Creating the 'Specials'
BBC Coventry & Warwickshire is attempting to create the ultimate Coventry cab. We've been asking for your 'Coventry Specials', the special places, people or hidden gems.
Some of the 'specials' are being turned into works of art. Created by (and sometimes with) Ian Cook from PopBangColour. Ian is an artist who has replaced paintbrushes with toy cars and wheels. His unusual work has taken him all over the world to create striking works of art created in his unique way, landing him a Guinness World Record title in the process.
Ian recently moved to Coventry to live and work and is enjoying finding out more about the city he now calls home on this 2Tone Taxi journey. By using toy cars, remote control cars and wheels, Ian has already created some of Coventry’s iconic places to take their place on our 2Tone Taxi. He’s also worked with groups and individuals to turn some of their suggestions to art. All of the works of art will be put together and put on one working iconic London Black taxi.
2Tone Taxi Tours
Inspired by the stories, places and people who we’ve been told about, our newly wrapped London cab will take people on 2Tone Taxi Tours of Coventry.
Our 2Tone Taxi tours are designed by the people who know here, live here and love here.Brought to life by recordings from BBC Coventry & Warwickshire, Theatre Absolute will help create an immersive experience where visitors will enter the taxi and be driven around a special and interactive route around the city. The tours will run for a limited period. Tickets will be free but must be booked in advance.
