Ledbury's Cevan Price made his first simple melody on a keyboard when he was a child.

He learned to play a recorder and a couple of years later, a guitar.

During his teens, he became obsessed by the grunge scene - joining two bands at school.

He eventually started listening to acts such as Josh Wink, The Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers after hearing them at a festival.

An 'off-the-wall' music teacher then taught him how to create music using midi, synthesisers and drum machines.

In 2002, he started working in a guitar shop and met so many musicians he would never have to rely on a factory-made sample pack ever again!

When not producing tracks under the pseudonym of Sublixx, Cevan helps those with psychological and physical illnesses.

Music photography

Music photography

A Worcester photographer is offering an opportunity to local musicians to have their portraits taken for free.

Joe Singh, who used to do all of our session snaps here at BBC Hereford & Worcester, is looking for subjects to photograph for an exhibition he's putting on.

He's looking for people from all walks of life to capture in print - which is a relatively new venture for Joe - and is looking to spend some time honing his craft with willing participants.

To get involved, message him through his website.

Anyone in the two counties who's got an old or unwanted musical instrument is being asked to gift them to Oxfam - as part of the country's biggest-ever 'instrument amnesty'.

The unwanted instruments will be given a new lease of life and passed on the next generation of musicians.

The project is being turned into a Channel 4 series - Don't Stop the Music - which follows the internationally-renowned classical pianist James Rhodes.

To take part, you can drop off the instruments at Oxfam Worcester Book and Music, near the Elgar Statue in the High Street.

Gig Guide

Gig Guide
This week, Danni Hunt will bring you the lineup for Bromyard Folk Festival and SnodFest from - errr - SnodFest.

The event was founded in response to much-needed funds to pay for the public park in Upton Snodsbury.

They thought about having a car boot sale, a bingo evening - but instead settled on a live music event!

BBC Hereford & Worcester has, once again, chosen the opening acts for this year's event.

The BBC Hereford & Worcester Musicians' Masterclass

The BBC Hereford & Worcester Musicians' Masterclass
As part of this year's Worcester Music Festival, we brought our ever-popular Musicians' Masterclass to The Hive in Worcester - putting together a panel of industry experts to answer those all important questions, such as:
  • How do I get signed?
  • Is there an easy way to land gigs in other areas?
  • How do I build a fanbase?
  • How do you write a number one song?
  • What's the best way to sell your music?

The guest panel included: Martin Chambers (The Pretenders), Verden Allen (Mott The Hoople), Nigel Clark (Dodgy), Tom Oliver (Tour Manager), Ella Nozworthy (Nozstock), Brian Marr (The Marr's Bar), Steve Hadley (Death Or Glory Records) and Scott Garrett (MAS Records).

Hear highlights from the workshop every Saturday from 8pm here on BBC Hereford & Worcester.

The BBC Hereford & Worcester stage at LakeFest

The BBC Hereford & Worcester stage at LakeFest

LakeFest is a relatively new music festival taking place on the Worcestershire border, near Evesham, at Bredon Hardwick.

Snap!, Fun Lovin' Criminals and The Lightning Seeds all played at this year's event.

BBC Hereford & Worcester had a stage at the festival for the three days, showcasing local talent from Herefordshire & Worcestershire.
