Live music in Herefordshire & Worcestershire

Live music in Herefordshire & Worcestershire

For the ninth year running, throughout the whole of December and continuing into the new year, we won't be playing a single CD, MP3, tape or vinyl - because we're giving you the music you won't be able to get anywhere else on the planet.

In 2013, we continued to take the show on-the-road to some of the biggest events and most happening places in the two counties.

None of these artists knew they were being considered for these opportunities - they were chosen based on the tracks they sent into the BBC Introducing Uploader.

This week, hear some of the performances we recorded at Re-Con in Great Malvern, The Boathouse in Upton-upon-Severn, John Kyrle High School in Ross-on-Wye, BBC Maida Vale and Kidderminster College - home to MAS Records.

Dave Evans in session

Dave Evans in session

Marden's Dave Evans is a solo singer/songwriter with pop/rock leanings who works as a tutor.

He's played the guitar and provided vocals in many covers bands over the years, including Wheels - who opened for Pink Floyd.

He says: "It's time to get my own songs out there and hope people like them enough to buy the tracks and other people cover those songs!".

Tonight he's joined in session with record label-mate Natalie Hall.

BBC Introducing in Pershore

BBC Introducing in Pershore

It was the final town in Worcestershire we'd not visited since we started taking the show out on-the-road in 2001 - so it was time to change all that!

On a cold, dark, autumn Sunday night at the end of November, we rolled up next to Pershore railway station to record at Tower Studios - who've just completed a 48-hour "drumathon" for charity.

The five acts on stage blew us away - so be prepared for some top tunes as we head you through the festive season!

George Barnett session

George Barnett session

What a year it's been for Leominster's George Barnett!

First off, we passed his track No I.D.ea onto BBC Radio 1 who playlisted it.

We then decided to showcase him on our stage at the Wychwood Festival - and two weeks beforehand he released a cover of Daft Punk's Get Lucky which has now had 8 million views on YouTube.

He then put out Animal Keeper - landed a spot at Radio 2's Live In Hyde Park - and got added to the Radio 1 playlist again.

He's just been in London meeting up with various label bosses and playing a number of venues in the capital - where he joined Simon Lederman on BBC London who discovered George has been playing keys since he was three!

Make some noise!

Make some noise!

For three weeks, we're finding out - how loud is too loud?

We're told anything over 100dB is likely to cause perminent ear damage - but just how loud is that?

We've teamed up with the Worcester Hearing Centre for a band vs hearing sound-off!

How can you protect your ears - without compromising your enjoyment of sound?

Tom Dixon is an audiologist and hearing protection specialist and was listening to our live session in Kington - and he's on this week's show.

BBC Introducing in Hereford

BBC Introducing in Hereford
BBC Introducing in Hereford & Worcester supports unsigned, undiscovered and under-the-radar musicians from Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

Since 2011, we've been taking the show out on-the-road showcasing the very best musicians from our two counties.

Our next recording session takes place on Sunday 5 January at The Jailhouse in Hereford and features four of the acts we've handpicked for broadcast in 2014.

It's free to get in - and this is your chance to see how we capture live music on tape, while being able to enjoy some of the hottest new acts we've got in our area right now.

None of these acts knew they were being considered for a live session - they were chosen based on the tracks they uploaded to us - which led them to receiving airplay on BBC Hereford & Worcester.

Doors open at 2pm - but you're more than welcome to turn up anytime until 6pm.

In the papers this week - it's all over the front page, you give me road rage - find out about that story tonight!

BBC Introducing Musicians' Masterclass

BBC Introducing Musicians' Masterclass
If you're a budding solo artist, an MC, or just started a brand new band then you should check out BBC Introducing Musicians' Masterclasses.

On Thursday 21 March, we visited various locations across the UK - Glasgow, Belfast, London, Salford & Cardiff. DJs from all over BBC Radio, music industry experts and artists got together to host a day of sessions, workshops and masterclasses.

On the guestlist at Maida Vale were Worcester's Shaun Williams, Malvern's 5parks, Bromyard's Tenz, Droitwich's Case Closed and Bewdley's Barbarix.

Invited to Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff were Hereford's Daniel & The Scandals, Kidderminster's Lauren Wright and man-of-many-Worcester-bands Pete Adams.

We covered everything from song writing & MC workshops to promoting your music & making the most of your Twitter accounts.

We also heard from successful artists about their own musical journeys. Our special guests included Ben Howard, Aluna George, Wretch 32, Devlin, Angel, Japanese Popstars, Phil Kieran, Badly Drawn Boy and the Manic Street Preachers.

This week, we hear from BBC Radio 1's Mike Harding who says to capture the eyes of a record label - you need to be achieving millions of hits online.
