The Venus Grotto

Dan enters the Venus Grotto, a vast cavern in the grounds of Ludwig’s palace at Linderhof. This remarkable structure is entirely man-made: constructed from metal girders overlaid with canvas and plaster to create the impression of rock. It even contains a lake and waterfall. It was Ludwig’s attempt to recreate the Venus Grotto from Wagner’s opera, Tannhauser.
