Festivals

Festivals
Throughout the whole of this month, we're bringing you the acts we chose to play at this year's Droitwich Music & Arts Festival.

It's a decade since this event began - and this year there's music on various stages throughout the town, in the shopping centres and at the Norbury Theatre.

In former years, this has also coincided with the Droitwich Water Festival.

This is the 10th anniversary of the event - and it appears that Droitwich runs for longer than any of our other festivals in Herefordshire & Worcestershire!

Steeped in the '60s sound of California with all the charm of the Brit-folk scene, americana/folk band WoodField released their debut EP in April and began touring.

Fronted by the acoustic song-writing duo Tom Crosley-Thorne and Rebecca Leach from Bevere, the band draws influence from First Aid Kit, The Civil Wars and Of Monsters and Men.

Interviews

Interviews

Maximo Park, Mystery Jets, Deaf Havana, Chapel Club, Swim Deep, Theme Park and Tall Ships are on the line-up for a brand new festival coming to the Herefordshire/Worcestershire borders this year.

September 28th 2013 will see the first Ringmaster Festival take place on the Whitbourne Estate for an explosion of music and food meets a vintage circus.

Normally home to cattle, this year's festival will, for one day, be home to 6 big top tents, with the look and feel of a vintage circus but with a focus very much on music.

Tonnes of acts have already been confirmed, including locals Jasper In The Company Of Others, The Crooked Empire, Ancient Addicts and more to come.

The Music Map

The Music Map

Kidderminster-born singing sensation Jess Roden has just released a six-CD anthology after what appears to be a 40-year break in the music industry!

Jess was a key part of the '60s/'70s scene in the area - and the link between many world-famous artists from the region, namely Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin, Robbie Blunt, Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Traffic and Bronco.

Indeed, due to their age, many of the analog tapes were deteriorating so badly, they had to be oven-baked for days to preserve the tape-oxide prior to running them through original 1/4", 1" and 2" tape machines.

The entire process has taken over two and a half years from inception to now - a project that began when Jess wondered out loud one evening during the Summer of 2009: "I wonder what really has survived?

"With all my bands, we recorded so much and yet you hear stories the whole time of multitracks ending up in skips and just being generally thrown out.

"It'd be nice to know if anything was sitting in an archive somewhere."

On The Record

On The Record
A Worcester filmmaker's series looking at music production in the county has proven to be so successful, he's launched a second series!

Jim Lowe's On The Record documents what life's like on the road for our local industry professionals.

This week we hear from music photographer Nathan Burlton, who says he's genuinly bowled over by the talent on offer at some of our local mic nights - which was one of his first discoveries upon moving to Malvern.
