Global warning

A remote island in the Pacific Ocean holds a stark warning of what the future may hold. A population of around 20,000 people once lived on the now deserted Easter Island. As the population grew, the pressure on the island's resources became too much. The inhabitants chopped down all the trees and no longer had sufficient wood for fuel or to build canoes. Starvation threatened and warfare broke out between rival clans over the remaining resources. What was once a fertile and rich landscape became a barren desert unable to support human life. Without profound changes to our society, thinking and economics, we may soon see similar scenes across the world.
