Tom McKinney presents Radio 3’s Breakfast show live from Salford, including BBC Radio 3’s 25 for 25: Sounds of the Century – a series of brand new commissions celebrating and commemorating some of the biggest events of the 21st century so far. This week, Views from the M9 by Glaswegian composer Aileen Sweeney is inspired by one of the largest pieces of public art in the UK, The Kelpies. A pair of monumental steel horse-heads by sculptor Andy Scott between Falkirk and Grangemouth, they were unveiled in 2014, just months before the Scottish Referendum. It’s recorded by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
