Chance to Change a Life

A nine-year-old boy faces a complex operation after his condition worsens while on the waiting list. Neurosurgeon Kat Whitehouse tackles a large brain tumour in a retired miner.

Clare Carpenter is a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon working at Noah's Ark, the only dedicated children’s hospital in Wales. One of her patients today is nine-year-old Dafydd, who has been waiting 18 months for an operation to reconstruct his dislocated hips. But during his operation, Clare faces challenges caused by Dafydd’s long wait.

Neurosurgeon Kat Whitehouse tackles a large benign brain tumour, a meningioma, in retired miner Eifion. It's making it difficult for him to walk and use his right arm. If Kat doesn’t remove it, he could become paralysed on one side of his body. But the operation will be difficult, as the tumour is also growing into a major blood vessel in Eifion’s brain.
