BBC Music Day: BBC Singers
Music and Wellbeing - focusing on music's power to unlock memories for those living with dementia. Plus our opera matinee double bill: The Hand of Fate and Duke Bluebeard's Castle.
Music and Wellbeing - The BBC Singers perform a selection of repertoire focusing on the power of music as a tool to unlock memories for those living with dementia. BBC Singers soprano Alice Hulett tells us of her own experience of dementia in her family and introduces the BBC Music Memories website (https://musicmemories.bbcrewind.co.uk/). The BBC Singers also perform a selection of music inspired and written by composers and poets with a personal connection to dementia.
Followed by today's opera matinee double bill: Die glückliche Hand (The Hand of Fate), to Schoenberg's own libretto, plotting his own life events and concluding that man continues to repeatedly make the same mistakes, and Duke Bluebeard's Castle - Bartok's one-act expressionist opera based on the French literary tale La Barbe Bleue, from the Teatro Massimo, Palermo.
