One Night of Shakespeare

On 3 July 2005, the BBC joined up with the Shakespeare Schools Festival to give 10,000 young people from 400 schools the opportunity to perform their own interpretations of Shakespeare plays in 100 theatres across the UK - all on one night.

The unique and record-breaking event saw the UK's National Youth Theatre running workshops across the UK and actors, producers and hundreds of teachers helping to mentor and support the thousands of young actors.

60 Second Shakepeare

A Shakespeare play in one minute… this is the challenge facing hundreds of students who are getting involved in writing, directing, acting and editing their own abridgment of Shakespeare to be shared on bbc.co.uk.

The BBC is looking for teachers and their students, aged 14 to 19, to produce a one minute movie or audio interpretation of Shakespeare's plays, themes or characters.

A resource-rich website, bbc.co.uk/60secondshakespeare, provides information about Shakespeare and top tips on developing digital skills.

The shorts will be showcased online.

60 Second Shakespeare on WAP, which launches in November, includes an abbreviated guide to Shakespeare's key plays, fun quizzes, and the chance for you to insult your family and friends in the bard's own language. Useful for kids and great entertainment for adults!
