This autumn across the BBC


 

This autumn, the BBC brings Shakespeare and his stories to audiences with a variety of new programmes and initiatives across its services – television, radio, online and interactive.

 

Shakespeare on BBC 7

 

BBC 7 is broadcasting two Shakespeare plays from the archive, in tandem with BBC ONE.

 

The audience will be able to enjoy the brand-new The Taming Of The Shrew on television and then hear a production of the original on BBC 7 (via Digital TV, Digital cable, DAB radio and online).

 

Listeners can also access the plays up to seven days after transmission via the audio on-demand feature on the BBC 7 website (bbc.kongjiang.org/www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7).

 

The Taming Of The Shrew - Saturday 26 November at 1.00pm.

 

This production was first broadcast on Radio 3 in 1988. It stars Bob Peck and Cheryl Campbell as Petruchio and Katherina, with Robert Glenister and Douglas Hodge.

 

Stephen Tompkinson, who stars in the new television version, also appears in this production as the youthful Lucentio.

 

Producer/Director is Jeremy Mortimer.

 

A Midsummer Night's Dream

 

On Saturday 3 December at 1.00pm, David Threlfall, Samuel West, Richard Griffths, Amanda Root and Sylvestra Le Touzel lead the cast in this 1999 production for Radio 3.

 

Richard Griffiths is Bottom, David Threlfall is Oberon/Theseus, Sylvestra Le Touzel is Titania/Hippolyta, Samuel West is Lysander and Amanda Root is Hermia.

 

Producer/Director is Susan Roberts.
